12.01.2022 Wilma Gallet, whose team was awarded the $80,000 ADM 'Restoring Sanctuary Innovation Grant' spoke to Eternity News about the the program she and her team are forming to create church communities where victim-survivors of domestic violence feel safe, believed, included and loved. Read more about the four stages of the program that Gallet is developing >> https://www.eternitynews.com.au//churches-to-get-a-check-/ And what would success look like for Gallet and her team? "It would be hearing people in the congregation say, ‘We had no idea that this was happening, that abuse would occur. But now that we know, we’re going to make sure it never happens, or that women are safe and welcome here."

This initiative to ensure the world’s poorest are able to access vital vaccine protection is an important act of solidarity with the world’s most vulnerable as we face this crisis together.

Chaplaincy in Secular Australia with Katie Tunks Leach: Tue, 19 Jan 2021 at 7:30PM Does chaplaincy have a role in our secular culture? In this class we will explore the impact of incorporating spiritual care on physical, psychological and social wellbeing; exactly what chaplains do and don’t do; and how to progress the vital role of chaplaincy moving forward. Katie is a 2020 ADM Senior Research Fellow, a Lecturer in Nursing and Midwifery at UTS, a registered nurse, and an ambulance chaplain. During her time as an ADM Senior Research Fellow Katie completed a research project investigating how to improve the pastoral and spiritual care provided by chaplains to the ambulance service. Throughout this project she worked closely with both paramedics and chaplains to better understand how to ‘care for the carers’ in this challenging profession. At UTS she teaches postgraduate and undergraduate nursing students, and researches how psychological and spiritual factors impact the health and wellbeing of nurses and paramedics. Her PhD is exploring the role and value of chaplains in the ambulance service.

03.01.2022 'Desire, Fear, and Being Human'. Desire reveals what we long for and for the most part should not be denied, so western culture upholds. Yet fear often restrains our desires as expressed by Giordano Bruno, a 16th-century thinker, desire urges me on, but fear bridles me. In this worldview, desire and fear conflict causing anxiety or an even more intense desire to conquer or at least harness our fears. When we harness our fears, we will be free to achieve the impossible. But is this true? Hear Rev. Dr Katy Smith's thoughts on the topic at this year's ADM Annual Public Lecture Rev. Dr Katy Smith. Register here (free!) to receive event reminders, and join us for the live-stream >> https://www.deaconessministries.org.au//public-lecture-2020
