25.01.2022 A Prayer for VJ Day 75 Protect our remembrance of this anniversary from the infection of hate that we may live free from fear and resentment. Lead us out of the shadow of all those deaths onto paths of reconciliation. In a world that has sadly not seen real peace in these 75 years let us work together to bring to fruition the hopes of those in 1945.

15.01.2022 We are very happy and thankful to hear that Honduras has become the 50th state to sign the Nuclear Ban which means it will go on to be ratified by the UN and become international law. This is a significant step towards the end of nuclear weapons 75 years after the first atomic bomb was dropped. For those of us in the UK and elsewhere with governments who are not signatories to the Treaty and continue to maintain nuclear weapons, the work will continue to persuade our governme...nts to act in accordance with international law and bring about a truly nuclear weapon free world. ChristianCND are holding a short online service of thanksgiving and celebration on Sunday 1st November at 6pm. All are welcome. https://zoom.us//regi/tJArdOGurzksE9Ow-nYYLUp4D-7fzrl0M-66

13.01.2022 This week 13th-21st September is World Week for Peace in Palestine and Israel This is an an initiative started by the World Council of Churches. People of faith are encouraged to pray and take actions to promote a just peace in Palestine and Israel. The prayer below is suggested for the week for use by individuals and worshipping groups. May God who is tender and compassionate, just, merciful and slow to anger, give us the strength to persevere in our search to make peace wh...ere peace is most hard to find. We ask for your blessing on all those people of goodwill who seek to live in harmony with their neighbours. Most particularly we ask for your blessing on those who, regardless of nationality or religion, steadfastly work for peace between the Israeli and Palestinian peoples. May they undo prejudice and bitterness, and so turn themselves away from violence that together we may all come to recognize ourselves in the other, shaped in your image as in your will. And let us say: Amen.

11.01.2022 Today during our vigil we heard the story of Sadako Sasaki. Sadako was only two years old on the 6 August 1945. She was blown out of a window and although her clothes were burnt, she was not hurt. At the age of 11 Sadako was diagnosed with leukaemia. She became very ill and had to go into hospital. While there her father told her the Japanese legend that if you fold one thousand paper cranes you would be granted a wish. Sadako started folding cranes and made 1000 with a ...wish that she would get well. She then started on another thousand but only made 600 when she died on the 25 October 1955. Her classmates laid paper cranes and her grave and started a campaign for a statue of her. It is now called the ‘Children’s Peace Monument’ in Hiroshima Peace Park. The paper crane is now considered a symbol of peace. If you would like to have a go at making one here is a video to show you how. https://youtu.be/bd9UlOveEYA
