23.01.2022 Inexperienced Drivers One of the fundamental elements of driving Race Cars proficiently is throttle response - timing is everything. Inexperienced drivers have a tendency to apply too much throttle too early in the corner. This will cause all of the weight to shift to the rear wheels of the car which are pushing you forward, reducing the load and grip of the front wheels which are used to turn. This effectively pushes the car in a straight line despite you turning the st...eering wheel. The same principal applies to front wheel drive road carsbut the front wheels are tasked with both accelerating and turning! They only have a certain amount of grip available to use at any one time. If you are using more of that grip to accelerate rather than to turn, the car will have a tendency to push forward in a straight line. This situation, known as understeer is amplified during wet conditions as the amount of grip available to use for accelerating or cornering is reduced even further. Mastering the balance of acceleration whilst cornering is a fine art and takes an excellent comprehension of the theory and dynamics behind it. 23.01.2022 Meet Anglo Driver - Keith Brennan Keith competed and went on to win the 2017 NSW Formula Ford State Championship title with our Anglo Australian Motorsport Race Team. "Formula Ford has grown a lot of my skills but the one I most value and carry over to other areas in my life is, to sit down after an experience and analyse what i could improve upon next time around.... What I love about Motorsport is the competitive urge to be the best in what you do and to always be pushing your limits. There have been a couple of challenges that I've faced in racing Formula Ford. One being holding the throttle flat through turn 1 at Sydney Motor Sport Park when every part of me is saying I'm not so sure about this! Another was to stop stalling and spinning the 2-seater, which I solved after a bit of trial and error haha! Talks with Team Director, Tim Beale always pointed me in the right direction and helped to motivate me to push through difficult times. As you can see, the spacer is turned down from 6065 grade aluminium bar, which is strong and durable yet very light just like most other components of Race Cars. ... 19.01.2022 Let Us Clear Up A Few Misconceptions Here are a few Frequently Asked Questions about our Driving Experiences... : :... 1) How Old Must You Be? For our 2-Seater Hot Lap Experience you must be at least 14 years of age to take part (You must also fit securely in the 6-point racing harness.) For our Solo Driving Experiences you must hold a minimum of P Plate Driving Licence. : : 2) Do the cars have Manual or Paddleshift Gearboxes? We utilise real Formula Ford race cars for your experience and as a result we are confined by the restrictions of the Formula Ford Racing Category. The gearbox is a manual 4 x speed racing dog box, it is recommended that you have some experience with a manual gearbox but not essential - we have taught people on the day of their experience! : : 3) Is there a maximum height or weight limit? The max height limit is 6'2 for our Solo Driving Experiences and 6'4 for our 2-Seater Hot Lap Experiences The max weight for any of our experiences is 120kg. If you believe you maybe close to these upper limits you are more than welcome to attend Anglo HQ for a seat fitting prior to your experience. 18.01.2022 Old School vs New School Formula Ford Championship Racing is split into three main categories: 1 - Historic’s... 2 - Contemporary Kent Class 3 - Duratec Class Historic Formula Fords, as the name would suggest, relate to Race Cars built between 1969 - 1989. Contemporary Kent Class Formula Fords relate to Race Cars built from 1990 - present day, which have a 1600cc Cross Flow Engine. Duratec Class Formula Fords relate to Race Cars built from 2006 - Present Day, which have a 1600 Twin Cam fuel injected engine from the Ford Fiesta. 16.01.2022 Open vs Closed Formula Ford Race Cars utilise an open differential as a part of the rear drive train. If you apply the power too early and spin the inside wheel you will get less drive out of the corner which will have a detrimental affect on your corner exit speed and a result in a slower lap time. Something I wasn't always that good at in school, however once I was doing something, I was really passionate about it became a lot easier. I then could see how the effort I was putting in to learning as much as I could... about driving, racing, fitness, diet, all the other aspects of motor racing, would translate into good results at the track. I now believe if you really put your mind to something and put the work in you can achieve your goals." "All elements of motorsport fascinate me and it changes from category to category. 07.01.2022 50 Years Of Formula Ford Formula Ford Racing in Australia started in 1969. It celebrated its 50th Year of Competition last year and our Race Team - Anglo Australian Motorsport managed to win the State Championship tittle in both the Duratec and Kent Classes. Other Racing Categories have come and gone but Formula Ford has lasted the duration.
