25.01.2022 We were proud to support the National Simultaneous Storytime event held in Laverton earlier this year by sponsoring a book for each participant to treasure. Coordinated by the Laverton Community Resource Centre (CRC) this year marked the eighth consecutive year the Laverton CRC has hosted the event and was integrated with the CRC’s weekly early literacy Story & Rhyme Time programme. Although this year’s event had to be held virtually due to COVID-19 restrictions, the morning was still fun filled with bubbles, balloons, rhymes, craft and of course the 2020 National Simultaneous Storytime book by Lucinda Gifford 'Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas'.
23.01.2022 Look at these beautiful handmade soaps! The girls in the Shooting Stars Netball programme at Laverton school really enjoyed making these soaps as presents for Mother’s Day, using materials provided by AngloGold Ashanti Australia. In preparing for this activity the girls also learned about why personal and general hygiene, using soap and washing their hands regularly is important for their own health and for their families, fellow students and friends. Lauren Seelander, the Coordinator of this programme reported that the Mums and Nanas were delighted with their presents.
20.01.2022 We were visited yesterday by students taking part in the Shooting Stars Leadership Camp. The camp is designed to reward high achieving students (Year 9 to 12) from the Shooting Stars programme. The girls are from Leonora, Laverton, Carnarvon, Halls Creek, Mullewa, Narrogin and Meekatharra, and visited our Perth office where they got to hear from some of our female leaders about their roles in AngloGold Ashanti Australia and working in the mining industry. It was great to have such an engaging group of future leaders visit our office.

18.01.2022 Week 1 of the school holidays and lots of healthy fun is happening this week with the Laverton Cycling Project. We are proud to support volunteers from Veris Racing, Shire of Laverton Youth Officer (Kevin) who is running the cycling programme for the kids, youth and adults and the LLCCA/Laverton Outback Gallery. 17.01.2022 For artists and people working in creative industries in the Goldfields this workshop might be just the thing! We are pleased to support local small businesses in the arts and tourism space, working with Artgold and encourage anyone in this area to come along to tonight's workshop.
15.01.2022 The old library at Laverton School is being converted into a music room, soon to be further upgraded to also become the Good Vibes recording studio. Many of the instruments were purchased by AngloGold Ashanti Australia several years ago for a youth band. Bernard, the school's Participation Officer and Mr G have been checking and setting up the instruments and will be teaching the students. It will be wonderful to see the instruments being used and enjoyed again.
15.01.2022 Congratulations to our long standing business partner and friend Daniel Tucker, the founder and Managing Director of Carey Group. Very well deserved.
15.01.2022 What a night for the State's first exhibition match of 2020 which had everyone on the edge of their seats watching West Coast Fever and the WA All Stars thrash it out on the court.
14.01.2022 We have been a major contributor to the Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA) preparations for Year 10-12 students at John Paul College in Kalgoorlie. This sponsorship, which began in 2019, has enabled the college to provide a 'line' in the timetable that is dedicated to small-group assistance in preparation for the assessment. Under this model, experienced literacy and maths teachers are able to work with the students on a tailor-made programme that maximises their chances of attaining the goal. Over the last 18 months a total of 162 students have benefited from this direct intervention and support, with the vast majority attaining success by the end of Year 11.
14.01.2022 We would like to congratulate WA School of Mines mining engineering student Georgia Kerr on receiving the Ray Finlayson Medal for Leadership and Academic Excellence at the Diggers & Dealers Forum this week. Georgia will be joining the AngloGold Ashanti Australia family next year as a graduate Mining Engineer at our Sunrise Dam Gold Mine. She is pictured here with AngloGold Ashanti Australia Senior Vice President Mike Erickson and Sunrise Dam General Manager Richard McLeod. Congratulations Georgia.
12.01.2022 We were out in force at the recent 2020 AusIMM Students Meet Industry Night, held at the WASM Graduate Hall in Kalgoorlie. 11.01.2022 Last week our Senior VP Mike Erickson and Sunrise Dam Gold Mine General Manager Richard McLeod visited Laverton to meet with community members and stakeholders. They met with the Shire CEO Peter Naylor and President Pat Hill who showed them around some of the facilities in town including the new pool complex and upgrades to the old Coach House, as well as plans for the new terminal to be built at the airport. At the Laverton Cross Cultural Association's Aboriginal Art Gallery..., the coordinator Julie Ovans gave a tour of some of the beautiful art works created by artists from Laverton, Mt Margaret and the Western Desert area. A visit to the Laverton School to meet Lauren Seelander, coordinator of the Shooting Stars Netball programme, also resulted in a chance to catch up with the boys from the Laverton HIP HOP crew, who meet after school twice a week to practice their moves. The boys are currently preparing for a dance off against students from the Leonora School. See more

10.01.2022 This is Kyarah, a trainee with Macmahon, our mining alliance partner at the Tropicana Gold Mine. Kyarah is currently operating one of the Diesel Electric dump trucks on site and graduated from the Get Into Mining Programme in 2018/19. Get into Mining is a collaborative programme run by Carey Group with the support of Macmahon and Tropicana Joint Venture partners AngloGold Ashanti (70% and manager) and IGO Ltd (30%). It comprises a blended delivery of training in the classroom, at a simulated worksite and via practical activities at Tropicana. In 2019 eight young Aboriginal trainees graduated from the programme. Keep an eye out as the 2020 intake will be advertised in the not too distant future.
