06.01.2022 As we rapidly approach the end of the year we focus on festivities and spending time with friends and families. For some it’s a very stressful time as we have to worry about buying presents (hint: for women scented candles are my fall back, for men something sports related, if not tools grunt grunt). It’s a time we are invited to Christmas work parties, and otherwise generally a lot of eating and alcohol consumption. All of which does tend to hinder ones fitness aspirations.... If we think about it logically we are working our fingers to the grind all year, literally for some, training hard so we feel fit and look sexy. Then come the Christmas Holidays we get carried away with hedonistic over indulgence and lose half of what we worked so to achieve leading up to it! After a few weeks of substituting over indulgence and minimal physical activity instead of the regular routine of work and the gym it is very easy to lose the definition around your midsection you had worked so hard all year to attain. It makes no sense! To maintain what progress we have already achieved I STRONGLY RECOMMEND a minimal commitment to regular exercise during your break. Maintance training doesn’t necessarily have to be arduous nor time consuming. It should cover the basic components of fitness: Cardiovascular (or aerobic), strength, and flexibility/mobility. Thirty minutes three times a week with due attention paid to each component of fitness will help to keep the beer belly at bay and keep you on track to hit the ground running when you do come back to training. Additionally making an effort to train first thing in the morning so you can get it done will make it so much easier to achieve and ramp up your metabolism too! Happy holidays team.
