25.01.2022 How exciting to have new, local work being developed. #brisbane is an amazing melting pot of creatives making their own creative life. I encourage you to support local creatives and their work, and share this event around. We all have to be more proactive if we’re going to bring new life to our post COVID industry. Jess Ham Productions, it’s fantastic to see you joining the beautiful melting pot of amazingness that is our creative community.

23.01.2022 The latest conversation with Brisbane creatives from Anina over at Bravo Brisbane. This time it’s Lucas D. Lynch, Producer at Lynch & Paterson. It’s so interesting to hear the thoughts of other creatives.

19.01.2022 Thanks for sharing this with me, Gabriella Flowers. This is freedom to create and that’s what the world can’t do without.

18.01.2022 Tell me you didn’t give up because things got difficult. (Meet Cosmo, pops into my office occasionally to offer his assistance in my business. Rubbish computer skills but I keep him on as a favour to his parents). If this year has highlighted anything for our community theatre leaders, it’s how tough you have to be to run an organisation.... I mean, who wrote the script for 2020? It feels like Sondheim on crack; too much is happening and the storyline keeps shifting. If you’re navigating a theatre company through the waters of this year, I have enormous respect for your efforts right now. It’s lonely but you’re probably not aware of just how many people are so very grateful that you’re standing strong as a ‘sword wielding donkey rider’. We thank you. Give ‘em a shoutout, people. Let them know they’re not fighting alone.

16.01.2022 Exploring live theatre arts like it's a novelty...oh wait... I've enjoyed Matthew's cabaret work before and it's a great evening of entertainment and talent. Have fun.

16.01.2022 Missing bump in’s. #communitytheatre #supportthearts

16.01.2022 I cannot explain it. I’m not sure what to say except... Happy Weekend. Enjoy.

16.01.2022 Live theatre is happening at Phoenix Ensemble. After their sellout season of Kinky Boots closes this weekend, Be More Chill will be next to premiere in the iconic Tin Shed theatre. Check it out.

14.01.2022 I want someone to spontaneously break into beautifully choreographed dance in my street. Enjoying the beauty of the performing arts in our lives.

13.01.2022 Savoyards Musical Theatre Brisbane is celebrating 60 years next year and they’re beginning their celebrations with some conversations. A series available on their Facebook page.

12.01.2022 It’s true. We can stream our live performances all we like (I’m grateful for it) but it just doesn’t replace the experience of live, in person performance. There’s an atmosphere that can’t be created on a screen; a connection between performers and audience. I am so grateful for all the dedicated, generous performers who continue to create live performances for us.

09.01.2022 Audition for something new at Phoenix Ensemble.

08.01.2022 A few jobs to fill at Brisbane Festival.

07.01.2022 To be invited into the room was a privilege. To witness the grace of a woman courageously placing her ‘baby’ on the stage and asking the audience for their opinions was inspirational. . At the industry showing of Playing Mom at La Boite yesterday, I experienced the result of a team effort to bring Jess Ham’s play to life. . @jesshamproductions had gathered the talents of Susan Stenlake, @adrian.carr , @nathaniel_currie , @conorensor , @ash.freed and James Rogers, under th...e direction of @mrshanewebb , to present several scenes from the play, bringing parts of the human condition for the audience’s consideration. . As an artistic community, I believe our responsibility is to encourage each other in our creative efforts. The isolation of the lead character in this new play reflected for me the isolation we can inflict by staying silent when we could encourage. Isolation is also self induced. Failing to seek support is a chronic condition often suffered by the artist. . My hope is that the events of 2020 have awoken in our precious artistic community, deliberate and conscious actions that will openly encourage creativity, devoid of judgement. . WE lead. WE demonstrate. There is value immeasurable in creativity and we stand strong together to protect it. See more

07.01.2022 The Gordon Frost Organisation has been acquired by US company, Crossroads Live (CXL). This will bring some interesting dinner conversation to the Australian musical theatre industry. You can read the full article by AussieTheatre.com by clicking below.

05.01.2022 Some amazing opportunities becoming available at the moment. . Limited spots available for this course at Loic Valmy’s Brisbane studio.

04.01.2022 This little glimpse into the world of COSI rehearsals, beautifully captured by Kody of Daylight Pictures, was an emotional reminder of what we have missed since March. Presented by THAT Production Company & Mira Ball Productions, COSI opened last night and I'm about to post the Stay Classy at the Theatre photos Luke O'Hagan took for me, of the very lucky audience that were able to experience opening night. I don't know if there are any seats left for the season but this show ...is full of (in Stephen Hirst's words) great actors and some sh*t actors. No, seriously, an amazing cast bringing storytelling to our communities once more. Live again - go see live theatre.

03.01.2022 Big changes in Brisbane’s La Boite Theatre’s leadership in 2021. Interesting read.

02.01.2022 Flipping through an old notebook and found this. Still good advice, I think. . Happy weekend.

01.01.2022 A fantastic activity for young teenagers these school holidays. Devise, script and shoot a short film project, all in 1 day. Only 8 spots available. Brisbane.

01.01.2022 Geoff: "I haven't set anything alight in years". . For the last couple of weeks, I've been working in my husband's workshop. I've taken over his office desk and, with headphones in my ears, I try to block out the sounds of a woodwind technician’s tinkerings. . Geoff and I have worked together in one form or another for over 30 years but, like so many people, 2020 threw up on us. Throw in a good dose of 'cancer surprise' and me learning to fix the dishwasherbecause Geoff sp...ent 3 months in hospital and I couldn't fob it off onto him, and you have a year that many of us can relate to. . Geoff is back at work, albeit a bit wobbly on his feet, hence the reason I'm here temporarily working at his desk instead of at home in my little office of creativity. . We learned early in our marriage that the best way to approach this weird state of living with another human being 24/7 was to never ask the question, "do we fix this" but always "HOW do we fix this". It has saved many a moment. . 2020 has brought forward many community theatre leaders that have approached the 'covid question' with the same approach. They've been exploring new ideas, made huge changes, and accepted that moving into 2021 means an opportunity to discover the new in everything. . That is one T O U G H leadership experience. So, if you're still going and haven't 'set fire to anything', let me encourage you to keep moving forward. It's messy, uncomfortable and unpredictable but thank God you're doing it for us. . If you're one of the theatre companies that didn't make it through the 'burning', know that every theatre creative feels the pain that goes with that loss. It's always the people that tie us to our community theatre lives and you must know that we will be waiting for you when you come out of your grieving, ready to welcome you onto a new stage. . Seek joy. Sometimes it comes from having a new idea for a show, or practicing a song/monologue, or playing your clarinet for the first time in months. . From the woman who can clean the inlet valve in her dishwasher like a pro, JOY can been found in the toughest of times. If only for a moment; long enough to keep you going. . You need to look. Love your guts, Sher. See more
