22.01.2022 Here we have Dr Belinda performing an ear flush on beautiful Billy the Cocker Spaniel. Unfortunately ear issues are common in breeds with long droopy ears because the lack of air circulation around the ear canal creates a moist, humid environment which is an ideal breeding ground for yeast & bacteria. Billys owners are extremely diligent in picking up when Billy is having some ear irritations and are quick to book him in for an ear clean and continue on weekly medications. Good on you Billy for being such a great patient

22.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE As per government changes coming into affect tonight, the team at Animal Clinic Maffra will be implementing the procedures that we adapted to earlier in the year, & ask if you would oblige us by continuing to work together during this time. Procedures are as follows: Masks are mandatory - no mask, no entry If you DO NOT have an appointment but enter the clinic for other reasons, please sign in at our sign in station, located in the waiting area ... Hand sanitizer is available for use at reception & sign in station Please phone us for all drug orders so we have ample time to organise those for you - limiting the time you wait in clinic Lastly, we ask for your patience & understanding in relation to emergency/trauma situations, which could lead to a longer waiting time for your pets routine appointment - please be kind to our team, who must triage patients under stressful circumstances We thank you all for your commitment to these new protocols & we hope that soon in the future, if everyone looks out for those around them, we can return to our normal smiling selves See more

20.01.2022 The relatable story of a tired mum.... Meet Tilly the French Bulldog Tilly had already birthed 6 beautiful puppies on her own in the early hours of the morning, her owner was concerned as she was still having contractions but was too exhausted to progress any further in her labor. Tilly was rushed to the clinic where Dr Chris took her straight through to radiology where an x-ray revealed she still had 3 puppies in her uterine horns. Tilly was rushed straight through to theatre where an emergency caesarean was performed & the three cheeky puppies were delivered & welcomed into the world! Tilly is recovering at home with her 9 healthy, happy puppies! Great job Tilly

16.01.2022 Not so amooosing We had a different species of dental patient visit the clinic recently! This one day old calf was brought into the clinic when its farmer noticed it couldnt suckle. Upon examination, we found a benign congenital tumour on the gum This abnormal growth of tissue was completely enclosing the tooth, preventing the calf from suckling due to the pain of the tooth cutting into the tumour. The calf was quickly anaesthetised & the tumour was cauterised around the tooth to prevent further bleeding & infection. The calf is doing much better now & has no issues suckling

14.01.2022 Ever wondered about the benefits of a dental scale & polish for your pet? Check out the amazing results below You can see before the treatment the patient is suffering from gingivitis (gum disease). There is substantial plaque & tartar covering the teeth which will lead to bad breath, receding gums & periodontal disease. Tartar can also hide something more sinister such as a fractured tooth. After the tartar is removed & subgingival scaling is performed, each tooth is assessed to check periodontal health & if required, radiographs taken to examine tooth root health. This resolves the patients gingivitis which will lead to a much more happier, healthier & comfortable pet.

08.01.2022 Meet Olympia Olympia needed vet assistance 2 weeks prior to lambing due to a prolapsed vagina. This is not an uncommon complication in ewes that are growing sets of twins or triplets, due to a nutritional issue leading to calcium deficiency. A mother ewe simply doesnt have the room to eat enough food to make sufficient energy needed to birth without complications. The vaginal prolapse was replaced & Olympia lambed without issue 2 weeks later under the watchful eye of her doting owner. Olympia is recovering well with her three healthy & happy lambs
