20.01.2022 This beautiful girl was referred by Mitchelton Veterinary Practice practice for treatment for a tooth that was growing in the wrong spot! @abel.sid.luna was seen by us in October for treatment and recently had her follow up dental radiographs performed. Luna is so clever she even knew how to open the consult room door ... Diagnosis: Class 1 Malocclusion - Linguoverted Right Mandibular Canine Explanation: - Class 1 Malocclusion means an tooth is in the wrong position. - For Luna it was her Lower Right Canine that was Linguoverted (growing more towards the tongue). - Treatment was required as the tooth was impacting Luna's palate and eventually would have likely pierced her nasal cavity. - A height reduction procedure is the cutting of the crown to approximately the height of the incisors then a Vital Pulpotomy is performed on the tooth. - A Vital Pulpotomy is a procedure where layers of filling material is placed in order to keep the now "damaged" tooth alive. - For more information on Height reduction procedures please visit our website - www.animaldental.com.au/services/height-reduction/ Treatment: - Height reduction and Vital Pulpotomy of Lower Right Canine Follow up: - The follow up radiographs performed 3 months later showed the tooth was still alive and the procedure was successful! - We do recommend dental radiographs at the time of routine dental cleans (every 12 - 18 months) throughout life to continue to monitor the health of the tooth and surrounding bone. #advancedanimaldentistry #dental #heightreduction #vitalpulpotomy #endodontics #endodontictreatment #puppylove #puppiesonstagram #germanshepherdsofinstagram #germanshepherddog #germanshepherd #dogs #dogsofinstagram #petsofinstagram #pethealth #malocclusion #adultteeth #canines #brisbane #goldcoast #australia #vetdentist #dentistry #animaldentist

08.01.2022 Surprise fact - cats don't always land on their feet! Jasper was a little gentleman who was referred by @ripleyvethospital for assessment of his fractured upper right canine after falling off a table. We treated Jasper in May 2020 and saw him back for follow up radiographs 6 months later.... Diagnosis: Complicated Crown Fracture of the Right Maxillary Canine (104) Explanation: - Complicated Crown Fracture means the pulp has been exposed and the tooth is dying/dead. - In Jasper's case the owners were aware of when the accident occurred and presented to their regular vets the next day and saw us 3 days later, therefore there was a high chance of success with Root Canal Therapy given the short time frame between exposure and treatment. - If not treated (root canal therapy or extraction) a dead tooth can lead to infection in the surrounding bone also known as a tooth root abscess. - The organic material (necrotic pulp) is then cleaned out of each individual canal then each canal sterilsed, dried then is filled with a root canal filling material. - For more information on Root Canal Therapy please visit our website - www.animaldental.com.au/services/endodontics/ Treatment: - Root Canal Therapy Follow up: - The follow up radiographs performed 6 months later showed the root canal has been a success! - We do recommend dental radiographs at the time of routine dental cleans (every 12 - 18 months) throughout life to continue to monitor the tooth and surrounding bone. #advancedanimaldentistry #dental #fracturedtooth #endo #endodontics #rootcanaltherapy #lovecats #birman #birmancat #birmansofinstagram #cats #catsofinstagram #petsofinstagram #pethealth #adultteeth #canines #brisbane #goldcoast #vetdentist #dentistry #animaldentist

05.01.2022 Jolly Jango was referred by @sinnamonvet for assessment for a "missing" canine after he had an accident as a young puppy. We saw Jango at 7 months old and performed dental radiographs and subsequent surgery to remove the Unerupted tooth - Check out the dental rads! Jango is a beautiful clever boy, trained by his dad @thestoicdog , who was very inquisitive on the day whilst staying for his procedure, including helping Bryll with admin work and then was caught on camera sitting... on the chair awaiting her return Diagnosis: Unerupted Left Maxillary Canine Explanation: - A tooth may not erupt for several reasons but in Jango's case the trauma to the area at a young age disrupted the development and eruption process for that tooth. - The Maxillary (Upper) Canine should have began erupting at approximately 5 - 6 months of age. - If an unerupted tooth is not surgically removed then a dentigerous cyst can form and cause destruction of bone in the area as it grows larger over time. Treatment: - Extraction the Unerupted Canine Follow up: - Jango returned for a follow up and had completely healed and does not require any further treatment. #advancedanimaldentistry #dental #extractions #puppylove #belgianmalinois #belgianmalinoisofinstagram #belgianshepherd #dogs #dogsofinstagram #puppiesofinstagram #petsofinstagram #pethealth #uneruptedtooth #adultteeth #canines #brisbane #goldcoast #australia #vetdentist #dentistry #animaldentist
