25.01.2022 Dr Guy Wolfenden, from Animalius Medicine, performs an ECG assessment of complex arrhythmogenic cardiac disease (irregular heartbeats). Some arrhythmias are considered a medical emergency, and if our radiologists identify affected patients in the outpatient ultrasound clinic, the Animalius Medicine service is on hand to perform rapid assessment, meaning life-saving treatments can be prescribed.

23.01.2022 Merry Christmas Everyone! . . .... #christmasmorningfeeling

23.01.2022 What’s cuter than a Shih Tzu? A Shih Tzu dressed as a pink Dinosaur of course! The charismatic little Frankie came in for her check-up with our medicine department last week and headed into the Dino consult room for some good news and to discuss her treatment plan moving forward. Not only is Frankie an Animalius favourite, but she’s also an Instagram sensation. If you would like to see the adventures of Frankie and her furry siblings then follow @living_with_shih_tzus... #dogsofinstagram #livingwithshihtzus

23.01.2022 The Medicine service at Animalius has access to the newest veterinary imaging equipment in Perth. Here, Dr Guy Wolfenden is getting this cat ready for a CT scan in the Siemens 64 slice Go-Up; this brand-new CT is super fast with outstanding image detail. Guy works closely with the imaging team at Animalius, and for patients with skin or mouth problems, the Dentistry and Dermatology services are on hand and always happy to help.

20.01.2022 Shout out to Victoria Park Veterinary Clinic! They submitted their high-quality radiographs of a dachshund for an interpretation with our teleradiology service. They have done an amazing job getting straight, quality radiographs of a small dog with bendy legs, something that can be extremely challenging. We love their use of the Animalius radiographic marker too! We love helping quality local practices with radiographic interpretations, as the more eyes that review a case, ...the better the results. Radiology is a team sport! #teamwork #animalius #localssupportinglocals #radiology

18.01.2022 Did you know that for diseases of the nasal cavity in dogs and cats, CT is far more sensitive and accurate than x-rays? Baxter, a lovely Cavalier King Charles spaniel, had been sneezing and snorting even more than usual, and getting worse over four months. A previous scope of his nose didn’t reveal anything. We recommended a CT of his nasal cavity, which showed severe inflammation of his nasal tissues, and a little, oval object lodged in the very back part of his nasal passages. This is something x-rays would never have been able to identify. Baxter was whisked straight from CT to have a rhinoscopy (endoscopic evaluation of his nasal cavity). Captured below is the lovely moment the Animalius team catches sight of that little something a corn kernel! Baxter is now feeling MUCH better (and corn is off the menu).

15.01.2022 Animalius radiologist Dr Belinda Hopper has a real love for echocardiography (the examination of the heart with ultrasound). She leads the radiology team in assessment of all sorts of conditions ranging from the complex congenital malformations to valvular degeneration and cardiomyopathies. When scanning the heart it is so important to get great images for accurate measurements, and then to have the experience and knowledge to make an accurate interpretation. This is somewhere Animalius excels. With experienced radiologists, Philips Epiq Elite ultrasound machines, and the Animalius Medicine team on hand for added expertise in interpretation and treatment options, we just love hearts!

09.01.2022 Providing specialist services means we need specialist equipment (like our Seimens GoUp 64 slice CT); this in turn means specialist electrical services. Thankfully, the team JMR Cabling Solutions are always available to help Animalius. With decades of experience with hospitals, they brought a can-do attitude to the electrical fit-out for our hospital and ongoing regular maintenance and service. We really appreciate Matt (L), Jason (R) and their team's positive attitude and attention to detail!

04.01.2022 Meet Jellybean! Jellybean is one of our most relaxed patients, she is 11 years old and happily lays back to have her ultrasound. Taking her photo for you was the hardest part of her experience here, as she would rather have pats and cuddles, than stand for a picture. Greyhounds in general have a fabulous relaxed personality, they make excellent pets, so if you are considering adopting a dog, we suggest you check out https://www.greyhoundsaspets.com.au/greyhounds/ All their greyhounds are sterilised, wormed, vaccinated, microchipped and ready for a new home.

04.01.2022 Hadley the English Toy Terrier has always had a flare for fashion, but recently his teeth needed a bit of a make-over. Hadley was referred to our specialist veterinary dentist Dr. Kevin Ng, by our friends at Perth Vet Emergency. After having a few tooth extractions and a teeth clean, Hadley is back to being a happy fashionista with a smile worthy of his outfit! #furkidfashion #animalius #specialistveterinarydentist #newsmile

04.01.2022 How much do you know about your French bulldog? These plucky characters are now one of the most popular pet breeds in Australia. Frenchies, like other bulldogs, pugs, and all brachycephalic breeds get their charismatic flat face from a genetic condition that causes many growth changes in the bones of the skull (and other parts of the body). Check out the difference in the CT images, of the skulls of a French bulldog and a cocker spaniel. This conformation can have huge impli...cations for the health and welfare of your dog by causing obstruction to breathing. It ISN’T normal for your dog to make a lot of noise when breathing. If you have a brachycephalic dog, or are thinking of getting one, knowing about BOAS (brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome) is essential. It is possible to breed dogs with good airways, or to get help for those that don’t. Ask your vet, or find some more resources below. They are such lovely dogs, they deserve to be able to take a deep, unobstructed breath. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bd3_s_hC7G4 https://www.loveisblind.org.au/ https://www.ava.com.au/lo/advice-from-a-specialist-surgeon/ #Breedtobreathe #loveisblind #frenchbulldog

03.01.2022 Chintu a Netherland Dwarf Rabbit presented at UPV with no appetite and creamy nasal discharge. Rabbits (especially Dwarves) have high incidence of dental disease and CT is the best imaging modality to diagnose this and other diseases of the head. The fantastic vets at UPV know all about this and recommended a CT for Chintu. Rabbits pose a great challenge with anaesthesia, but our specialist anaesthetist was undaunted and managed to intubate this tiny boy, who can only open his mouth a few millimetres wide. Chintu’s CT showed his teeth were great, and the reason his face was sore was actually due to an infection in his middle ear. With this knowledge his vet can make sure he gets the right treatment for a (hopefully!) speedy recovery.

01.01.2022 4 New Year Resolutions that include your pet. You might not be the only one who needs to focus on getting organised or getting healthy in the new yearyour pet could benefit from your New Year’s resolutions, too. 1) Book a health check. ... Pets can suffer from many chronic health conditions such as heart disease and arthritis. Visits to the vet can be about so much more than vaccines with a minimum of an annual health check recommended as our pets age so much faster than we do. Detecting health issues early can make it easier for your vet to identify and treat them, so start the new year by scheduling an annual exam at your GP Vet for your four-legged family member. 2) Change their diet. A surprising number of dogs and cats are overweight, and excess weight can cause a range of health issues. Putting your pet on a diet could increase their life span, allowing you to ring in the new year together for many more years, so talk to your GP veterinary team about any necessary dietary changes. 3) Get more exercise. Did you set yourself an exercise goal? Try getting your pet involved in your workouts, too. In addition to keeping your pet’s weight in check, walks offer many health benefits. A lack of exercise can also lead to behavioural issues including destructive behaviour. If you are just getting started, ask your GP veterinary team for exercise recommendations based on the size, age and health of your pet. 4) Update Essential Information. Getting organized is a popular resolution, and whilst you’re sorting out your paperwork or Marie Kondo-ing your home office, double check that your pet’s microchip registration is up to date to ensure if your friend goes missing, you can be reunited quickly. . . #NewYearsEve2021 #NewYearsResolution2021 #petfriendly #lovemypets #animalius
