25.01.2022 You might be seeing quite a bit in the media about the major internal rift in the Coalition in NSW at the moment. If you’re wondering what it’s all about, and why koala protection is key to it all, Mark Pearson’s take is here: The NSW Nationals Leader has backed down from his threat to block all government legislation unless there was a watering down of the recently introduced koala protections. ... I am astounded that the Nationals felt threatened by the new koala protection policies. They are very moderate, easily worked around and truly do not go anywhere near to really protecting koalas into the future. No wonder animals and the environment are in such a bad way in this state!

22.01.2022 REPOST: Emma Hurst - Animal Justice Party MP WE DID IT! Laws to protect animal victims of domestic violence JUST passed through Parliament. Animal abuse will now be formally recognised as a form of domestic violence, and animals will be included on Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders.... PLUS we passed an amendment so NSW law now recognises the link between animal abuse and domestic violence. But we won’t stop here, there’s more to be done. We need laws which recognise animal as living, sentient beings instead of mere ‘property’. I support the recommendation by Domestic Violence NSW that the definition of ‘persons’ in domestic violence legislation should include animals. The fact that animals are considered property under the law is an anomaly. Nobody considers their cat or dog as a piece of property- as nothing more than a table or chair, they are members of the family, and our legislation should reflect that. The Animal Justice Party is committed to working toward long term domestic violence reform. With my tougher penalties legislation now being debated in Parliament, I’m certain we’ll have even more success in this space to share with you soon! Emma, we are so proud! 22.01.2022 KANGAROO KILLED NEAR SCHOOL. As State Convener for the Animal Justice Party here in SA, I wanted to personally appeal for you to join me in learning more about the plight of one of our national emblems, our native kangaroos. I've learned about their suffering through the documentary Kangaroo, however I recently had first-hand experience on how we treat these precious animals.... On 27 August 2020, I was walking my children to school in the Adelaide Hills. A police car was up ahead near a kangaroo sitting out the front of someone's house. I was excited to show the children as we don’t often see kangaroos. I asked the police officer what was happening, and he explained that the kangaroo was injured. I assumed that the police were waiting for someone to come and assess the kangaroo and treat their injuries. The kangaroo was sitting up, looked a little frightened, but I couldn't see any blood or injuries. POST CONTINUED IN COMMENTS...

12.01.2022 NSW PUPPY FARMING RAID: Authorities raided two NSW puppy farms yesterday morning following allegations of extreme animal cruelty leading to the death of a 10 month old female Boxer. It is reported that the mother dog was unable to give birth to all her puppies and while in considerable pain, the puppy farm operator denied multiple requests to take her to the vet. She is understood to have died in agony over a period of 4 days while the surviving puppies were shipped to a pet... shop. Breeder dogs are treated simply as machines by puppy farmers. Across NSW there will be many others just like her: facing a lifetime of confinement, deprived of all socialisation and forced to pump out litter after litter in squalid conditions to supply the pet trade industry. 11.01.2022 REPOST: Emma Hurst - Animal Justice Party MP BREAKING: The Minister has agreed with our call to pursue immunocontraceptive darting as a humane method to reduce the number of horses at Kosciusko National Park. Our Notice received the full support of the House calling for trials to begin urgently.... Previous delays have caused stress and controversy by sending horses to knackeries rather than changing the process to humane fertility control. Horses continued to suffer horrific deaths, native animals remained at threat, and communities were stressed about the animal cruelty. Remember, a wild horse has the same capacity to feel pain and fear as a native animal, and their lives deserve the same level of dignity and respect. With the right investment in research and trial studies, fertility control offers potential to humanely and ethically reduce wild-horse numbers. It is the only scientifically-backed solution being put forward that promises to be both effective, and avoid extreme animal cruelty. Now that we have the Minister’s support for this, we will be working closely with his office to ensure its implementation. Let’s stop the blood bath and slaughter.

08.01.2022 Do you know about the 367 Collins Falcons? Peregrine Falcons have been nesting at 367 Collins St Melbourne since 1991. They would lay eggs in the gutter but the eggs would fail to hatch. He has a large conservation landholding that is used for the conservation of kangaroos, and also a retreat for research into their inhumane treatment, ways to improve the perception of kangaroos, and how kangaroos can coexist with human activities. His property and research featured in the international film, Kangaroo: A Love Hate Story. Greg is an AJP Regional Group Leader and stood as a candidate in both state and federal elections last year to fight for better outcomes for animals and the environment through legislative change. 07.01.2022 DUMPED IN THE RAIN. NO FOOD OR WATER. It is appalling that in 2020, we are still having to tell people not to leave animals to die. Four 6-week-old kittens were found dumped inside zip-locked plastic shopping baskets near a children’s playground in Clovelly Park.... The RSPCA South Australia inspector who retrieved them reported that they were understandably visibly very scared and distressed.
