25.01.2022 Meet Arna Life for Arna was severely different from her wild kind. She spent most of hers confined to a small pen and wagon, being used as a draw-card for the travelling circus. Animal Liberation campaigned for her release for almost a decade, taking the circus to court for animal cruelty. While we lost the case, she was finally released to Western Plains Zoo, where she was free from the shackles and performances and able to do elephant-y things for the last four years of ...her life. Read her full story here.

22.01.2022 Meet our rescues of the week, Fig and Finch. Fig was born on a fur farm and contracted a bacterial infection in his feet, causing his foot and toes to rot. As this damaged his fur, the farmer released him to a rescue group, changing his world forever. Finch, was used as a breeder and spent 5-6 years in a wire cage. After his prime reproductive years were over, the farmer chose to find a home for him. Both Fig and Finch are living with other rescue foxes, sugar gliders, dog...s, and an opossum. 20.01.2022 Sharing your life with a companion animal often leads to a very rewarding and deeply meaningful relationship. They bring an immense amount of joy into our lives and provide comfort on the bad days. Seeing their cute fluffy faces in pet shop windows can spark an impulse to bring one of these companions into your life, but sadly, these friendships do not always work out. Every year, hundreds of thousands of dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, fish, and other companion animals are mistreated or abandoned because of a lack of knowledge on proper care or a mismatch in lifestyles. As a result, approximately 250,000 individuals are euthanised because of an inability to find a second home. Learn about the animal welfare issues with how the industry currently operates: https://www.al.org.au/what-is-wrong-with-breeding-companio/

18.01.2022 Calf roping involves releasing a young calf into the arena, while a roper on horseback chases and lassos the calf, jerking them to a stop. The rider has 30 seconds to jump off the horse, throw the calf onto their back, and tie three of their legs together. This event is not only stressful for the calves but also results in injuries, such as damage to their windpipe and soft tissue, choking, bruising, and broken or fractured bones, backs, and necks. Take a stand against animal cruelty today http://rethinkrodeos.com/

17.01.2022 Australia currently lacks a recording system to monitor the exact number of companion animals killed each year. Death Row Pets estimates it to be around 250,000 healthy dogs and cats. This ghastly figure excludes the other companion animals, such as rabbits, birds, hamsters, and guinea pigs who are also killed after being abandoned. The animals aren't the only ones who are suffering. Shelter workers and vets are suffering as a result of using euthanasia to manage animal overpopulation. Studies from across the globe have found that workers are experience trauma, emotional stress, fatigue, burnout, and even suicide. Always remember, animals are not gifts or toys that can be discarded. They require a life-long commitment, time, and care.

16.01.2022 It's time for us to move our demands for fur, leather, suede, wool, cashmere, and feathers to animal-friendly, sustainable alternatives.

15.01.2022 February 16, 2021: Animal Liberation, Australian animal rights organisation dedicated to permanently improving the lives of all animals, condemns the proposal to declare ducks and other birdlife fair game in a new open season by Shooters Union Australia. The recently released proposal comes in the wake of ongoing controversies and challenges to the legitimacy of duck hunting open seasons in other Australian states. Shooters ...Continue reading

The slaughterhouse has agreed to stop three trucks for us, allowing us to say goodbye and take photos to share their story. This is an inclusive event, ...open to vegans and non-vegans. It's a chance for us to say goodbye to the animals and remember them. It also a way for non-vegans to learn about the turkey industry and animal agriculture. 12.01.2022 Circuses condemn animals to a life of unnatural performances, and small, mobile accommodation that has no resemblance of their wild habitats. Take a stand for animals and never support an animal circus.

11.01.2022 Changing our diets is just one aspect of living a cruelty-free lifestyle. It is equally important for us to be respectful and kind to those who are used for entertainment purposes. Visiting zoos, aquariums, petting zoos, circuses, watching camel races, and riding ponies, horses, and camels perpetuates the idea that animals are here for us, in this instance as nothing more than entertainment props. Being animal lovers, we understand why people want to be around animals. Before we participate in activities or events, however, we should always stop to question whether our fun is at the expense of anyone else. There are countless activities for you and the family to enjoy that are animal-friendly, check them out here: https://www.al.org.au/animal-friendly-activities/

07.01.2022 Doing something for pleasure or fun isn't enough to justify the exploitation of others. Around the world, thousands of animals are confined to cages, tanks, shackles, and chains for the amusement of people. Learn more about why you shouldn't support these industries today: https://www.al.org.au/why-shouldnt-animals-be-used-for-ent/

06.01.2022 URGENT: The current animal testing "ban" for cosmetics has a significant loophole and as a result, animals can still be tested on! Stand with AL in demanding an extension on the use of animals in testing by signing this petition: https://www.al.org.au/extend-the-ban-on-using-animals-in-c/. Public consultation ends tomorrow - Friday 20th November.

05.01.2022 Animal Liberation is incredibly thankful for the support of Greens member, Tamara Smith, MP, in opposing the cruel greyhound racing industry and the use of public money to support such practices. Together, we will fight the proposed development for a new greyhound racing track in the Tweed region. Tamara states "The greyhound industry cannot be reformed. It will never recover from the public exposures that demonstrated clearly the systemic and inherent cruelty entrenched in ...the industry." Be sure to follow us for updates on this campaign! - https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au//Pag/HansardResult.aspx

05.01.2022 Did you know that cuttlefish can think and learn? Scientists recently tested their cognitive abilities by altering a test that was designed for human children and found that they have the ability to learn different symbols, assess a situation, and display self-control. While intelligence should never be a measure of ones worth, this is pretty amazing and shows that we should never underestimate animals. 04.01.2022 Let's change Australia's food system! As Dr. Gath Davis said, "I am not ‘biased’ because I am vegan. I am vegan because after extensive research I have learned that, besides being the most ethical decision, a plant-based diet is the best for my health and the health of the environment." To answer the survey, visit: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GTP8G6T... Our friends at Vegan Australia have put together some tips on what to say: https://www.veganaustralia.org.au/dietary_guidelines_review Survey closes 3pm Monday 15 March 2021 AEST.

04.01.2022 Join us today, as we stand together to raise awareness about animal agriculture and the threat it plays to human health. The reality is, nature always tries to create a balance in an ecosystem and this relies on keeping populations in manageable numbers. On modern farms, humans have created artificial environments for animals to live in. We cram them into sheds and paddocks in the thousands, denying them room and forcing them to live amongst their waste. As a result, disea...se and illnesses develop, mutate, and spread. This ultimately means that animal agriculture is not only killing the animals trapped in the system, it is also a threat to wild animals and us. Around the world, our relationship with animals has caused the bird flu (avian influenza) from poultry, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) from camels, Ebola from monkeys and pigs, Rift Valley fever from livestock, Swine flu from pigs, SARS from bats, West Nile fever from birds, Zika from monkeys, and Nipah from bats and pigs, and lastly, Coronavirus. Let's not wait until it's too late. Most of us are lucky enough to be able to chose what we want to consume and support. Every single time you opt to eat a plant-based meal, you are making a difference for the animals, the environment, and people. Event details: When: 11 am on the 11th March 2021 Where: Wentworth Park, across from the Sydney Fish Markets. For more details visit: https://fb.me/e/4FgobuCSn
