25.01.2022 Every time you eat, you make a choice about what kind of world you want. Not only for humankind, but also for this hen, and for all the animals we share this planet with. All eggs involve cruelty. From the hens in battery cages to the baby boys who are horrifically killed soon after being born. Your choices matter. 25.01.2022 Did you know that Queensland slaughters more goats than anywhere else in Australia? The majority of goats are kept, and killed in Western Queensland, with a goat abattoir in Charleville exporting most of the meat, mainly to America. Goats are intelligent, funny, curious and playful animals, but sadly they are one of the most 'consumed' animals in the world.... www.Vegan4Life.org.au

24.01.2022 On this #AgDayAU, we'd like to show our appreciation for all the farmers who produce cruelty - free, sustainable food for the nation. It's a great time for the industry and the government to start thinking about the future of farming in Australia, and how we can start transitioning to more sustainable, environmentally - friendly food production. Thanks to all the wonderful producers who are already doing this! #supportlocal

21.01.2022 Shark nets are only 180 metres long, and sharks can swim over, under and around them. The only thing they guarantee is the death of our iconic animals. " - Dr Guida, Australian Marine Conservation Society It is absolutely heartbreaking to see what continues to happen to marine wildlife due to the ineffective and outdated shark control equipment used in Queensland. Mark Furner MP for Ferny Grove needs to take action to stop this senseless killing. Tell your MP you want shark... nets and drumlines out and replaced with more modern technology https://alq.org.au/qld-shark-nets-out See more

20.01.2022 Temperatures are set to soar in many parts of Australia over the next week, which means that our wildlife are at risk of heat stress. You can help by leaving some water out for them. It's best to use shallow dishes, placed in a shady area away from pets & safe from predators. If you use a large container, be sure to add in a few sticks or rocks so that any small insects or lizards can climb out if they fall in. If you see an animal in trouble, visit this website to find a wildlife carer near you - https://www.fauna.org.au/ or call the RSPCA on 1300 ANIMAL (1300 264 625)

19.01.2022 WILL YOU HELP US? The hideousness that is calf roping is starting up again. Rodeos are resuming around Australia after many months of cancellations arising from the pandemic. BUT with the re-election of the Qld Labor Government there is still hope that they will do the right thing and ban this very nasty sporting event in the final draft of the Qld Rodeo Standards & Guidelines. Tell the Minister to ban calf roping www.RethinkRodeos.com PLEASE TAKE A FEW SECONDS TO REMIND T...HE STATE GOVERNMENT OF THE RIGHT DECISION. We have created a brand new template email to make this super quick and easy for you at www.RethinkRodeos.com . Thank you in anticipation of your support as always!! The rodeo organisation which held this rodeo, The Australian Bushmen's Campdraft and Rodeo Association runs rodeos around Australia, including Queensland.)

17.01.2022 It's not often that people from the animal agricultural industry deviate away from the fairytales that they sell to the public, but when their economic viability is in jeopardy, strange things happen. Victoria is facing the worst outbreak of bird flu ever (at the same time as the human pandemic), and hundreds of thousands of chickens, turkeys and emus have been culled as a result. In an interview with ABC Landline, Brian Ahmend from the Victorian Farmers Federation shared th...e truth about 'free range eggs'. Tens of thousands of birds in each shed. Take eggs off your plate. 17.01.2022 Last week, Deb Frecklington MP announced that, if the LNP were to win the election next month, that she intends on cutting funding to the Environmental Defenders Office (EDO). The EDO provides vital free and low cost legal services to many Queenslanders, including farmers, First Nations people, land owners and community groups around environmental and planning issues. They also protect our wildlife who are the biggest victims of the unchecked development and land clearing. Our wildlife needs protection. Our First Nations people need legal assistance to stop evil corporations desecrating their land. Everyday battlers need the EDO. The animals need the EDO. For Queenslanders, please keep this in mind when you decide where your vote goes next month.

17.01.2022 These are some of the inviduals seen at Brisbane Animal Save's vigil yesterday at Teys slaughterhouse in Beenleigh. All of these beautiful souls will be dead by now, 24hrs later. Their only crime - being born the wrong species. Please see them, please share them. They are really no different to the dogs, cats or horses who we share our homes and lives with, yet we treat them so terribly. www.Vegan4Life.org.au

16.01.2022 With temperatures set to reach the mid-40s in many areas of Queensland in the next few days, spare a thought for the hundreds of thousands of animals - chickens, pigs, sheep, cows and goats - who will still have to endure long journeys in cramped metal boxes. Slaughterhouses don't stop for a heatwave, and neither does transport. Many animals will succumb to heat and dehydration during transit and this will be counted as 'stock loss'. But they're not 'stock', they are individu...als, and they will suffer terribly. Please, see them, and don't be the reason they're put on these trucks. Your choices matter. www.Vegan4Life.org.au Heather

14.01.2022 Most people love animals, and would never want to see them hurt or suffer. 13.01.2022 More dogs died from suspected 1080 bait poisoning. Authorities regularly use 1080 poison throughout the country to kill animals - with farmers viewing it as a "necessary" measure to control so-called "pests". Please click through to the Courier Mail article and leave comments on the page there supporting a ban. 13.01.2022 For 132 days now, the Cairns Regional Council have been causing extreme distress to the Spectacled Flying Foxes who have been living in the trees at the City Library for generations. Over the last decade, the Council have removed 43 Spectacled Flying Fox roost trees from the CBD, mainly to make way for development. The remaining 4 trees at the CBD Library holds 10% of the entire population of Spectacled Flying Foxes. It is a preferred location for pup rearing. ... But the Council don't want them there. Nor do their friends at Crystalbrook Collection hotels, across the road. So, they have been dispersing them, well into birthing and pup rearing season. We are now facing a scary time with the weather warming up. This is a critically important time for the Spectacled Flying Foxes with pup rearing, and every day that the dispersal continues the population is put under more & more stress. They are a keystone species. They are vitally important for the ecosystem. They are endangered, and are supposed to be protected under QLD state laws. Please ask the government to put a stop to this dispersal now https://alq.org.au/stop-sff-dispersal

13.01.2022 Breeding boars in Australia are kept in stalls like this for their entire life. They cannot turn around or exercise, they have no enrichment, and nothing to cure the extreme boredom they must feel. The only time they're let out is to be mated or 'milked' for their semen. Many farms in Australia also still use sow stalls, where mother sows are kept in extreme confinement during pregnancy, before being moved to a farrowing crate. The industry proudly announced a 'voluntary phase out' of sow stalls by 2017, but as you can see from this picture, they are still very much in use. Pigs are highly intelligent animals. Imagine what life must be like for them.

13.01.2022 It's been incredibly sad to hear recent stories about the many pet owners who have lost their dogs and cats to 1080 poisoning. It is a horrific, slow and extremely painful way for any animal to die. And this poison is indiscriminate. It kills a huge range of wildlife as animals can be poisoned through the smallest contact with an affected animal. There are so many kinder, and more effective ways to manage unwanted or unwelcome animals than 1080 poisoning, and it's time for o...ur government to make it illegal once and for all. Add your voice now - https://ban1080.org.au/act/ And join the online protest happening tomorrow - https://www.facebook.com/events/818184435609262

12.01.2022 Today the Queensland Government announced their budget and it is quite telling of their priorities. They splashed out $42 million for the horse racing, harness and greyhound racing industries. The money for the racing industry includes $4.87 million for the proposed new $39 million Ipswich greyhound track. ... This $42 million expenditure for racing is more than the extra money announced today for the Great Barrier Reef, all other World Heritage areas in Queensland, as well as all of our National Parks combined! Needless to say, we didn't see anything announced that would improve animal welfare. This would be a good time to remind your MP, or the Premier of Queensland if you live interstate, that you don't support racing and you certainly don't support millions of dollars being used to prop up this cruel industry Email them here https://www.alq.org.au/stop-ipswich-track

12.01.2022 We're saddened to hear the story of Strawberry - another victim of the cruel puppy trade. Read Strawberry's story here: https://www.watoday.com.au//puppy-farm-sting-strawberry-th Thank you Oscar's Law for continuing to highlight this cruelty and push for a ban on puppy farming across the country. Please - Adopt, don't shop. Never buy animals from pet shops. We need to stop this unethical mass breeding of puppies for profit across the country.

11.01.2022 In 2012, this farm was exposed for slaughtering pigs with a sledgehammer. They inexplicably escaped prosecution. Now operating as a cattle feedlot, we see extreme cruelty and neglect, yet again. This farm needs to be shut down for good.

11.01.2022 Back in October Minister Furner said This government will come down hard on these people if they are found to be in breach of the Animal Care and Protection Act, which provides up to 7 years in jail. And I’ll make sure of that as the Minister responsible. Yet his actions this year show a complete failure to take animal cruelty seriously. The Minister routinely talks tough on animal welfare - claiming he will come down hard and that Queensland has the toughest animal we...lfare laws in the country Despite talking tough at the press conference following the 7.30 exposé in October, he took no action against Meramist, with only small fines handed to three individuals. Took far too long to act on starving horses in Charlton near Toowoomba. Now he has admitted his own department doesn’t even know where the remaining horses are, despite the offender having previous convictions for animal cruelty. Grants have been awarded to several abattoirs including Carey Bros, who were exposed last year for 22 breaches of the Animal Care and Protection Act (for which they received no charges). He backflipped on removing shark nets, ignoring his own government’s scientific advice, resulting in many whale entanglements over the migration season (including again today!). He has failed to ban calf roping, against the advice of all animal protection groups. If you’re as angry as we are about this minister’s failures, please share this post and tag Mark Furner MP for Ferny Grove and ask him when he plans to ‘come down hard on these people’.

07.01.2022 Just meters from the dead calf we showed you yesterday, this baby sat there, covered in flies, her nose red & raw from sunburn, hungry, yearning for her Mother. Her fate is to repeat the life her Mother has been subjected to. Get pregnant, have her baby taken away, milked every day & repeat, until her body gives up. Then, sent to slaughter. If you think she deserves to be protected from neglect, abuse and exploitation, then you already believe in veganism.... 07.01.2022 Pigs have the intelligence equivalent to that of a three year old child, yet are denied the ability to express any of their natural behaviours in factory farms. It's hard to imagine what these animals endure in their brief lives before they are sent to painful deaths in gas chambers. The standard practice in the pig industry is very disturbing for anyone that cares about animals. Our own investigations into several piggeries throughout Queensland and northern NSW have reveal...ed some particularly shocking practices. Not one of the piggeries we've exposed (links in comments) has been prosecuted by authorities. They all continue to operate today. 05.01.2022 She died there, in that crate, on that dairy farm. She only spent 5 days on this earth. Shortly after being born, she only managed a short drink from her mother's udder before a man roughly tore her away. She was carried by her weak legs, and thrown into this crate. With no shelter from the sun, and no comfort of soft bedding or hay, her and the other newborn calves lay there confused, scared and hungry, and cried for their mothers. Her mother was still in the next paddock, ...devastated, grieving the loss of another baby. Close enough to hear her cries, but separated by fencing, she could only watch on as the farmer attempted to keep her baby alive on powdered milk replacement. But this baby slowly slipped away. Too sad to eat. Too weak to stand. She lay in that crate, sweltering in the hot Queensland sun, and slowly died. This is a sad, everyday reality of the Australian Dairy industry. Please, take dairy off your plate. www.Vegan4Life.org.au

04.01.2022 Earlier this week, a fire broke out on a marine pen at one of Tasmania's salmon farms, resulting in the escape of over 50,000 salmon. The majority of these salmon will most likely starve to death, not knowing how to catch wild fish after being raised on unnatural pellets. Some will survive by eating wild fish, resulting in mass loss of native fish species. Others will be caught by local fisherman. Their 'freedom' will be short lived. Aquaculture, quite simply, is an ecologica...l disaster. Tasmania's Macquarie Harbour (a heritage listed area) has been heavily polluted by salmon farming, resulting in dead zones & disease outbreaks. Critically endangered species have been hit hard and protected species like seals have been relocated by the government to protect the farms. Here in Queensland, we have a growing aquaculture industry, both near Brisbane and further north. The same company responsible for much of the destruction in the Macquarie Harbour, Tassal Tasmanian Salmon, are operating prawn farms near the Great Barrier Reef, and are planning on further expansions. If we want to avoid a repeat of what's happening in Tasmania, we need our Government to put the environment ahead of business deals.

04.01.2022 Exactly 2 years ago today, we released footage of a totally unresponsive calf being removed from the rodeo arena on a stretcher, after being brutally roped. DOES ANYONE HAVE INFORMATION about any other calves badly injured during calf roping events at other Qld rodeos? Perhaps you know of a calf who was euthanised later as a result of the injuries, either at the rodeo grounds or after being transported elsewhere? We have recently been informed of allegations around a seriou...s calf roping incident and we are keen to learn if this is more widespread than the industry would have us believe. PLEASE PM THIS PAGE IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION. ANY INFORMATION RECEIVED WILL BE TREATED AS STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL. HAS THE QLD AGRICULTURE MINISTER HEARD FROM YOU LATELY? Go to www.RethinkRodeos.com and use our easy NEW template to tell Minister Mark Furner you've been waiting too long for this event to stop.

04.01.2022 Sadly, PBR bull rides have returned to Queensland with the first event of their season at Caboolture on Saturday. PBR Australia talk a lot about respecting their ‘animal athletes’, but at Caboolture it was bullying on show, not respect. The bulls reacted violently when their flank straps were tightened just before the chutes were opened. We saw some teasing too. The fact is that bulls wouldn’t excessively buck or circle crazily if they weren’t feeling threatened or stressed.... Their fear instincts are deliberately exploited. Don’t support the bullying of bulls. Learn more: www.RethinkRodeos.com

03.01.2022 6 horses were killed in just 3 days on Australian tracks last week, and 3 of those deaths occurred on Queensland racetracks. Darci's Money was killed in Gatton on Thursday 12th November. Tadween was killed in Emerald on Friday 13th November Quezmar was killed in Home Hill on Saturday 14th November (there is no replay available from this track). ... All of these deaths were tragic, unnecessary, and completely avoidable. Horse racing kills, not just on Melbourne Cup Day, but almost every day. Say no to horse racing. Thanks to Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses. .

02.01.2022 Warning- strong language Whilst the Cairns Regional Council continue with their dispersal of Spectacled Flying Foxes, the council next-door are doing this. Mareeba Shire Council are shooting guns in broad daylight to disperse this huge colony of flying foxes after they had already settled for the day. ... This is just over 50km from Cairns. The accumulating stress these poor animals must be under, being scared away from multiple camps, under attack from local governments when all Flying Foxes are meant to be protected under Queensland law. We have made enquiries with Queensland Environment Department and Leeanne Enoch MP about this. In the meantime, please add your voice to help stop the dispersal in Cairns https://www.alq.org.au/stop-sff-dispersal Video - Kate Mascall

01.01.2022 A new study released this week backs up what many of us thought was obvious - whipping cause pain to horses. Not only that, but they are totally unnecessary.
