23.01.2022 Dog Life Hack #5 As spring hits, we begin to get out more and incorporate our furry friends into our recreational activities, but they can sometimes be restricted by harsh and abrasive surfaces. Dog boots, also known as dog booties (if we led with that no one would take us seriously) are an excellent piece of protective equipment for your dogs paws.... These booties can protect your dogs paws from extreme temperatures and rough terrain whilst providing grip in the comfort of a shoe made specifically for their paw size. Of course, the concept of your dog having to wear booties wont go down well with them at first and commonly turns into an awkward dance similar to when discotheque was first introduced. Though through positive association with the booties, like playing their favourite outside game when theyre on, treat rewards and incorporating them into their daily walks, the booties will become part of you dogs standard walking gear and be able to follow you on any bush walk or hike!

19.01.2022 Spring! Sunshine, BBQs, cocktails anddddd fleas. It's that time of year and we're seeing an increase in cats and dogs with fleas. Fleas begin to hatch and become more active as the weather warms up.... Their bites cause irritation to your pet that results in horrible itching, scratching and chewing. Fleas can also transmit intestinal Tapeworm when ingested by your pet whilst grooming. The lifecycle of a flea can last anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months, we recommend maintaining flea treatments all year round as the most effective way to prevent infestations. You can purchase flea treatments from your local pet store, however we recommend you speak to your vet clinic as treatments are dosed according to weight and can incorporate other preventative treatments such as heart worm, intestinal worm and ticks.
18.01.2022 And we're back! We hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year. Last year, since forming in April, we responded to over 200 puppy related email queries, printed over 1700 pages of training material and trained 34 puppies. Tonight we commence our first course for 2018. Good luck to our first round of students!
17.01.2022 Pet I.D and Medical Condition Alert Tags. Your pet's identification tag can relay more than just their name and your contact number. If your pet has an existing medical condition you can add a 'medical condition alert' tag. This ensures that if your pet strays from home, their condition can be managed by the finder or pound until you can be contacted.... For those of you with a long 'to do' list, our friends at MadDog Accessories have simplified the tag ordering process. With their large range, you can order new tags, add medical condition alerts and replace damaged or outdated tags online! Simply head over to their Facebook page at MadDog Accessories, inbox them what you'd like and they'll post the tag out to you the next day! Tags are $10 and if you mention you were referred by Animal WA, your postage is free.

08.01.2022 Resurrection! We've been quiet on the social media front for a little while now because we have just been SO busy. Since we last posted we have trained 75 puppies, opened a second location within Shelley Vet Clinic and Aimee has been working towards a certification in Canine Rehabilitation.... Since the restrictions have eased around Covid-19 we have been overwhelmed by the amount of enrolments for our puppy classes. It's great to see pet owners showing such commitment to their puppies development! Standby for cute puppy photo spam...maybe some useful posts in-between...
07.01.2022 Dog Life Hack #6 The warmer months are upon us and as we transition to summer, our fur friends will take a little while longer to shed their winter coats. Doggy ice treats are a good way to help keep your dog cool and mentally stimulated over the warmer months.... A example of a simple ice treat is to use a foam cup, freeze half a carrot in either chicken or beef stock and once it's frozen peel away the cup and serve! Ice treats can contain anything your dog likes however, remember to use them in moderation as too much of a good thing can upset your dogs tummy. If your dog is inclined to swallow things whole, ensure the size is appropriate. You can find more doggy ice treat ideas at: http://www.australiandoglover.com//easy-summer-treats-for-
06.01.2022 Congratulations to our first puppy graduates of 2018! Alphie, Mala, Lulu, Harvey, Arco and Kai.
05.01.2022 Dog life hack #12 Winter is here Does your pet get anxious during thunder storms or rain? What about fireworks, car travel or separation distress?... There is an option available that may help to make them feel more comfortable without the need for hours of heartbreaking coddling and reassurance. The ThunderShirt is a jacket for your pet to wear during stressful situations or in stress inducing environments. The ThunderShirt works similar to swaddling an infant and applies constant gentle pressure around your pets torso. ThunderWorks claims success in 80% of cases, and to back this claim they offer a 45 day money back guarantee. Whats even better is that they dont just ask you to send back the ThunderShirt, they give you the opportunity to donate it to your local rescue organisation or shelter and then provide them with proof and theyll refund you the cost! As with anything new, we recommend you introduce the ThunderShirt in combination with food rewards to ensure your pet enjoys a positive association with the shirt. For more information visit www.thundershirt.com.au Hopefully this winter your pet can enjoy the winter storms as much as we do! P.S. For those of you with feline companions, ThunderShirts are also available for cats, if you're brave enough..
02.01.2022 Dog Life Hack #8 Dog hair stuck on your couch, in your carpet and the backseat of your car? In these stormy conditions, your dog will probably be spending a lot more time indoors and sneaking in extra couch time. ... With winter coats flourishing you may notice an increase in hair. It sticks to your carpet and upholstery and the vacuum just can't dislodge it. Enter the window squeegee! Move the squeegee back and forth across the area and the rubber strip will loosen the embedded hair. Pick up the clumps of hair that accumulate an continue this process until all the hair is removed.
01.01.2022 Dog life hack #5 Ever watched your dog eat so fast it begins to heave during or after its meal? Want a more interactive eating experience but dont have the time to make a Kong? Slow bowls are pet food bowls designed with ridged patterns to spread out your dogs food preventing it from taking large mouthfuls.... When your dog gulps food it also takes in air which can cause their stomach to become distended often leading to gastrointestinal discomfort. In extreme circumstances it is thought that this behaviour can pre-dispose a dog to Gastric Dilation and Volvulus (GDV) or a condition commonly referred to as bloat. Bloat can be fatal and should be treated as a medical emergency. Slow bowls increase the time it takes your dog to finish its meal, allowing for better digestion and better meal satisfaction! You can find slow bowls at most local pet supply stores.
