25.01.2022 A good ol’ throwback to one of my favourite activities for kids . I continuously encourage families that tree climbing supports so many physical and cognitive developments in our kiddos . The planning, the coordination, and the strengthening skills are just a FEW positive benefits from this activity. The list goes on and on, and during #covid19 it is one of the few outdoor activities that cannot be roped off..(for now). parental supervision is ALWAYS recommended. Bonus point if you join the kids...as long as you know them!!!

23.01.2022 A post without little hands or little kids’ feet? Yes, today I’m addressing buckets. Not Jack and Jill’s, put that aside and today it is about addressing your own metaphorical bucket. To fill your kids’ bucket with attention, care, choices, and connection, us parents have to make sure our OWN bucket is somewhat full before we add to anyone else’s. Since a double whammy #covid19 lockdown, I’ve tried to be mindful of my own bucket. I find that I can go days without self care,... and then . This cycle is not pleasant for anyone in the family. So recently, daily I try to find one mindful way to fill my bucket. Listening to a podcast, use headphones to listen to your fav song whilst preparing another meal, if opportunity exist to get some fresh air, even if it is a lap around the block and the obvious, a glass of (you’ve gotta start somewhere) . Look after yourselves, and try to keep that bucket full (metaphorically, I’m not condoning too many glasses of !!) See more

13.01.2022 Make a mess! said me never #sensoryissues . However messy play is a very typical and important developmental stage for babies, toddlers and young children. So engage in the muddy cakes, the yogurt paint, the squishy slime, but here is another important part. Cleaning ! Hooray #sensorydefensive parents rejoice! Cleaning is so good for learning to plan, organise and complete a task #motorplanning as well as for understanding cause and effect and building #finemotorskills... and #grossmotor skills. Those shoulders, wrists, fingers and core strength are all getting some input! So next time you hand a toddler a sponge to scrub those marks off the table, give yourself a pat on the back knowing that participation in cleaning is also a really important developmental activity, I love me a good functional and developmental activity to start the week See more

12.01.2022 New month, new season. Happy first day of spring . Winter in Melbourne is much different to my Canadian childhood. Here, it is about a sense of real slow living, warming the home with soups, fires, cold walks, long baths. I look forward to a spring filled with thawing out, regrowth, and movement. Over the weekend, we picked a few wild flowers and washed them in a pond as we talked about the seasons changing. This activity was so basic yet really engaged our senses, touch smellsightsound , it also was a lovely natural play opportunity with hand eye coordination and evoked a lot of conversation. We didn’t engage our sense of taste, but we had our first taste of the warmer days ahead, cheers to that!
