25.01.2022 A little bit of Monday morning motivation Have a great start to the week.

24.01.2022 From dignity - to be rugged in the rug of shame Bloody itch

20.01.2022 The three F’s Flight Freeze Fooling around These are the different responses from horses when the horse can not cope with the task at hand.... The first two are very common and widely acknowledge. But often the third one is missed, when the horse plays the class clown and does silly things. The most common one I find is when a horse starts pulling faces. But there is a reason for this, The horse needs to release his jaw. His hyoid His TMJ Often these horses need to relearn to swallow roll their tongue and have the freedom of the movement. Cross their jaws and yawn. A loose noseband or no noseband would be ideal. A very quiet bit that rolls on the tongue would be a good option. Straight preferred. Finding the right bit is another story When I feel brave enough, I start that subject. Let's just say, for now, the most common bit at the moment is not always the best or kindest option. It is a stage in rehabilitation work. The horse doesn't start yawning because he is bored. The horse starts yawning as it is releasing tension and overwhelm. The horse is finding new solutions, different movement patterns. We all are creatures of habit, and changing a pattern takes time and repetition. #ankehawkedressage #balanceddressage

20.01.2022 How time flies, and she is still the most beautiful She teaches me a trick or two most days.

19.01.2022 He might be a stockhorse - but one with a huge heart one step closer to a healthier stride. #ankehawkedressage #balanceddressage

19.01.2022 ’2020 ’ has been a year of change It started out with fires draught a d went to almost floods in our area.... The weirdness continued to up and downs throughout the year. The world learned about Covid, and everything changed. Lucky - our long-planned sea change and big dream happened at a perfect time. We moved to the farm and had lots of space to self-isolate - with plenty of tasks at hand; there is always more than enough to do to keep us busy. We made lots of new friends And best of all we’ve done it all together with Paul Hawke. Looking forward to the New Year ahead ’Welcome 2021’

18.01.2022 Peace full start of the day. #ankehawkedressage #balanceddressage

18.01.2022 A thought on saddle pads; Why did you choose the particular saddle pad that you are riding in? colour ?... fit to the horse's shape ? material ? saddle fitting issue ? discipline you are riding in ? For me, there is always a reason why I choose a particular item on my horse. . Yes colour is essential I'm not a pink girl But for me, the saddle pad must fit on the horses back. clearance underneath the saddle This means it is not too small - so the edge of the saddle panel is not on the saddle pads edge -or too big and whipping across the horses back when the horse us moving gives the horse enough wither clearance provides the horse with clearance on the spine Now we go into the material - I think the material should be sweat-absorbing, breathable, soft, and comfortable. Just to name a few Some materials are slippery, and saddle moves. Some materials cause static electricity. Sometimes there are bindings, seams or logos that cause the pad to be uncomfortable due to the position there are placed in. Saddle fitting issues There are some terrific saddle pads on the market for saddle fitting issues. Correctional pads with inserts to adjust as needed With sheepskin panels in various places With foam panels, these come in different density thickness shapes and sizes. And of course what discipline you are riding in dressage jumping western classical schooling saddle Now with all this in mind, there are still plenty of options to be fashionable as well. Show me your favorite saddle pad #ankehawkedressage #balanceddressage

17.01.2022 I love seeing improvements in horses and how they change their shape with correctly ridden exercises. Slowly their body looks softer and rounder the ridged lines disappear. I often forget to take photos to see the journey unfold, to look back where you started. One from yesterday. Love how this horses chest is improving widening, and his posture is getting better. ... #ankehawkedressage #balanceddressage

17.01.2022 Lucky horses got a visit and a cheek up by @AdrienneAttwood Both of them enjoyed the attention; Charlie is in better alignment and received a few compliments on his improving topline Georgie just leapt it up, and her small unevenness in her hind end got some attention - she slightly favours one side.

16.01.2022 Lovely Sunday Staying with a friend @Jenny Banks And the day started off amazingly riding the lovely Hamish having a test ride in a beautiful saddle. The rest of Sunday we spend learning a lot about horses hoof- brilliant.... Thank you to The Barefoot Bloke very informative day. So this is going to be another journey understanding more about your horse's hoofs. Know your hoof - know your horse. As always, once you know a little bit, you realise that there is so much more to learn. I am connecting the dots continuing the journey.

15.01.2022 I hope Santa was kind to you... Otherwise, there is always this option - snatch a wild pony

15.01.2022 #FreeTipFriday Working with horses Confusion ; - anxiety confused with excitement. ... - fear confused with bad behaviour. - pain confused with bad behaviour Pay attention to detail know what you’re working on, and with. 13.01.2022 I love listening on my road trips. You podcast Here is another one that is an excellent listening, and once you have seen the horse change in front of you can't, unsee the change that occurred in front of you with the horses. A cutting edge neurologist and passionate horseman, Dr. Stephen Peters has been a guiding figure in the understanding of how horses process information. 10.01.2022 Just a small break from fencing taking my girl for a stroll #ankehawkedressage #balanceddressage

10.01.2022 Georgie Girl Shall we chase the cows or play in the arena When we moved to the farm I decided to take her shoes off. ... Why - easier to keep them with a friend in a herd Georgie’s hooves are healthy and in general she is a fit horse Might not work on every horse - but I think it is a healthy option. I’m lucky and have a great farrier nearby for help and advice Great excuse to mix the work up and get out and about. It took some time in the transition between soft paddock and arenas uneven ground up and down we have some great hills and holes Or the arena Even ground but a bit firmer lovely and even clear lines to ride patterns and movements Or The driveway and rocky bits are still challenging. Not underestimating the ever-changing weather windy and dry rain soft and soggy hot and hard ground Hooves are amazing how they adapt. Then I think if you would take my shoes off, I would probably hobble along for quite some time. But as always she took it in her stride. #ankehawkedressage #balanceddressage

07.01.2022 A little update on the supervisor - Charlie Chaplin! Slowly - slowly We are working 20 min a day, and he is still shuffling along - but he gives it his best try. The best part is he is hanging on the fence ready for some work. Yes there might be cookies involved And like a Labrador, he is highly food motivated. ... Look how he’s changed! Topline is looking so much better especially his neck; bum has filled out properly, he’s standing better! Sooooooo happy! #ankehawkedressage #balanceddressage

07.01.2022 Happy Hump Day!

07.01.2022 Love spending time with my girl; she is a great leveller. Miss Georgie will find your strength of character and expose your weaknesses, all without saying a word. Quietly checking your reaction. I can’t hide anything from her.
