25.01.2022 Our condolences to the New Zealand/Aotearoa Muslim community. Me te aroha tino nui atu. Solidarity and love to our nursing colleagues at the New Zealand Nurses ...Organisation members and all first responders providing frontline treatment and care to the victims of the mosque attacks in Christchurch. Our hearts go out to those who have lost their lives, to those who have lost friends and loved ones and to those who are injured. We grieve with you. Sending our solidarity with the Muslim community. An ordinary day. Unimaginable terror. #NewZealand #mosqueattacks #ChristChurch
23.01.2022 Lest we forget, the hard work, resilience and fortitude of the women who nursed during WWI, trying their best to provide patient care in terrible circumstances. We remember. #Nurses #WWI #ANZAC
20.01.2022 I have read every single survey response in our latest National Aged Care Survey 2019. It paints a heartbreaking picture. http://bit.ly/2VO1nXL We need solutions and these solutions need to come from the top - our politicians. I wont stop fighting for guaranteed staff and skill numbers for aged care as well as clear funding transparency.
19.01.2022 My motivation to become a #nurse was because of #mymum. Not only was she my inspiration, she also helped me to understand why the union is so important for our professions. https://anmj.org.au/my-mum-my-inspiration/
19.01.2022 As the Federal Secretary to the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation I support the calls from Dr Tony Bartone - President of the Australian Medical Association for the urgent removal of children and families from #Nauru. Keeping babies, children and families in off-shore detention centres has shocking impacts, especially on the children and is morally reprehensible.
18.01.2022 The ANMF snap aged care audits in the seats of Wentworth, NSW, Franklin in Tasmania and Canberra, once again highlights the urgent need for safe staffing and law reform in the aged care sector. While I have seen ratios like this reported before, it is always a jolt to keep seeing these kinds of numbers. Our elderly and hard-working nurses and carers deserve a better system than this.
17.01.2022 The Royal Commission into Aged Care is an important opportunity to help build world quality services in Australia. If you would like to know more, you can join myself and other experts in this space at a free forum in Canberra will be held by the Australian Association of Gerontology, this Wednesday. 17.01.2022 Having guaranteed staff numbers for aged care doesnt have to cost anything. Tell your politicians to implement aged care ratios as law and help older Australians right now. http://timeforruby.anmf.org.au/ #TimeForRuby #AgedCare
17.01.2022 Australia should be a world leader in aged care. Today Professor John Pollaers OAM, Chair of the Governments 2018 Aged Care Workforce Strategy Taskforce has joined me, and other key medical groups in concerns that the recommendations found in A Matter of Care - Australias Aged Care Workforce Strategy report, risk being ignored by politicians, who have now deferred the crisis in aged care to a Royal Commission. 15.01.2022 So many problems in residential aged care could be avoided by guaranteeing safe staffing levels of both qualified nurses and well trained care-workers,
15.01.2022 Nurses are evidence-based. The evidence shows that mandating aged care ratios are cost-effective, improving the lives of our elderly in care as well as those who deliver that care. Read the full report here: http://bit.ly/AITI-CBA-Report
15.01.2022 This must stop. I urge all politicians to understand the daily impact of making aged care ratios law will have on the workforce, families and older Australians.
14.01.2022 Last week I sat at a round-table with a government standing committee to make the argument in favour of Rebekha Sharkie MPs Aged Care Amendment (Staffing Ratio Disclosure) Bill. As I said in the room and will continue to say; Numbers matter, when you are 1 nurse to 160 residents, they matter and those numbers shouldnt be hidden from the public. You can read the ANMF submission here: http://bit.ly/agedcareamendmentbill
14.01.2022 The stories coming to light in aged care will continue to shock unless the government listens to health professionals like nurses and doctors. The root cause of these horrifying stories are understaffing and under regulation. Radical change is needed now. bit.ly/2AOSilo
13.01.2022 Today is thank a first responder day. The Premier of NSW has set an example of how frontline workers should be thanked - by freezing their wages in the midst of a pandemic.
13.01.2022 What do we mean by an aged care crisis? What are the ratios? Read more in this months Australian Nursing and Midwifery Journal http://ow.ly/QAwq30k047F
12.01.2022 After fighting for over 20 years for the recognition they deserve, it is a great relief that our brave SEATO nurses will be provided with a Gold Card, like other veterans, yet, the Government shouldnt make them wait another 18 months to access medical treatment and other assistance and support they so urgently need. They need access immediately!
11.01.2022 The more evidence that comes to light about the financial and staffing practices of Bupa in aged care is staggering. Yet our Federal Government continue to drag their heels, failing to implement what we and our members have known for far too long will work; minimum standards of care with staffing and skills ratios set out in law, now! Our elderly cannot wait for the Royal Commission.
07.01.2022 The evidence of the mental, physical and emotional harm of keeping children in mandatory detention is real. I believe it is also morally reprehensible. I will always fight for this cause. We will not be silenced. #KidsOffNauru #EvacuateNOW #ACMHN2018 http://bit.ly/2pXflEO
05.01.2022 Aged care still needs us. The issues have not disappeared and neither will we. The Royal Commission is hearing the message on staffing loud and clear, so we must continue in our efforts to advocate for a better aged care system for our frail elderly. Join us at our More Staff For Aged Care Facebook page and keep up to date with our campaign.
05.01.2022 #Solidarity with nurses, midwives, carers, the mighty union movement and anyone who believes we need to #ChangeTheRules marching in Brisbane and Canberra today. Its time to change the rules - for fair wages, to protect penalty rates and of course, a fair go for our elderly by making aged care ratios law, now. Sally McManus
04.01.2022 Providers should only receive taxpayer funding if they can prove it will be spent on the care of elderly nursing home residents, not boosting their bottom-line. Its concerning that currently, funding for aged care isnt tied to ensuring safe, quality care for residents. This budget is a chance for the Morrison Government to rectify this for older Australians. http://bit.ly/2uERRXv
04.01.2022 Our point is about transparency. Some providers are struggling, yes, but we need to see where the money is going to be sure that those who really need it are actually getting what they need.
03.01.2022 Thank you for your trust - Im deeply humbled to have again been elected to Federal Secretary of the ANMF, an opportunity to represent and advocate for our growing ANMF membership who work in some of the most important positions of trust in the Australian community. I also congratulate my colleagues who have also been re-elected unopposed - Assistant Federal Secretary Lori-Anne Sharp, Federal President Sally-Anne Jones and Federal Vice President James Lloyd. I look forward to working together with them, leading the ANMF Federal for another 4 years. http://bit.ly/2t5Gjfj (Pic L- Annie R- Lori-Anne)
03.01.2022 The public places a great deal of trust in nurses, midwives and other health professionals. These stricter penalties will help protect registered nurses, midwives, and their patients.
03.01.2022 The Ensuring Integrity Bill is could have serious ramifications for our members. Nurses, midwives & carers have a professional obligation to stand up and advocate for safe patient care if employers are putting patients at risk. This bill could stop that. For example, it could pose a huge risk if the ANMF were to take action for aged care. Please dont pass this bill Senator Jacqui Lambie.
01.01.2022 Nurses, doctors, carers, over 300,000 community members and a growing number of politicians agree: We need guaranteed numbers of staff and skills for aged care.... This election vote for the candidates who will protect our elderly. Visit http://www.morestaffforagedcare.com.au to find out who they are. See more
