22.01.2022 Aged care is a national emergency. Yesterday, nurses and aged care workers were in Canberra today to fight for action in aged care. The Morrison Government response to the Aged Care Royal Commission Special COVID-19 Report recommendations do not go far enough to address the chronic understaffing, low pay or lack of transparency in aged care.

21.01.2022 Today (25 November) is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women which marks the beginning of the United Nations (UN) 16 Days of Activism. According to the UN: "Violence against women is any act of gender-based violence that causes or could cause physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of harm or coercion, in public or in private life." It's a growing global epidemic and sadly today the statistics are still sh...ocking: - On average, 1 woman a week is murdered by her current or former partner - Almost 10 women a day are hospitalised for assault injuries perpetrated by a spouse or domestic partner. - 1 in 3 Australian women has experienced physical and/or sexual violence perpetrated by a man since the age of 15. - 1 in 4 Australian women has experienced physical or sexual violence by current or former intimate partner since age 15. - Australian women are nearly three times more likely than men to experience violence from an intimate partner. And these figures are disproportionate for disabled women, trans women, Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander women, and women of colour. They are also similar globally. There is no excuse for violence. **Support services** If you are in immediate danger, please contact 000. 12.01.2022 Parliament is debating Senator Stirling Griff's Financial Transparency Bill. It's important this Bill passes to ensure taxpayer funding for private and NFP aged care providers is being monitored. Since 2014 aged care providers have received more than $66 billion in federal funding, but they aren't required to publicly report how it's spent. How do we know we are getting what we paid for?

12.01.2022 In summer, it’s important to be aware of rehydrating while you work, as well as the signs of heat-related conditions in your patients and aged care clients.

Today might also be bittersweet for some of you. If you're struggling or feeling anxious, please know you're not alone.
