Today I nominate I nominate Adrian O'Brien! The rules are simple: *Once you are nominated your 25 days starts the following day. *Everyday you record yourself doing 25 push-ups even if you have to drop to your knees to get 25 *Every day you must nominate a different person. Let's reach as many people as possible.Let's hope by doing this we can build awareness for anyone who is suffering from a mental illness, you are not alone and we are here for you. 14.01.2022 Never Give Up Feeling stressed? Most people are these days. The past couple of months have been filled with new levels of stress as we’ve all dealt with the coronavirus pandemic.... But you don’t have to let stress get the best of you. When stress is getting you down, you need something that makes you feel good and is good for you. I’m talking about exercise! Every time you exercise you increase your body’s production of endorphins. In case you have forgotten, endorphins are responsible for those good moods you get into after a race and the pleasure you feel while chomping down on a piece of chocolate. However, before you grab a piece of chocolate and skip your workout, remember the end result of each and choose which one will help you battle stress in the long run. (Hint: It’s not the chocolate.) Any and all exercise you do helps you fend off the effects of stress, in addition to all the other benefits of exercise: including but not limited to burning fat, increasing energy, reducing joint pain, regaining a youthful appearancethe list goes on. What would the ‘ideal you’ accomplish?... The distance between you and your ‘ideal you’ can be closed. When faced with decisions, big or small, do what your ‘ideal you’ would do, rather than taking the easy way out.

07.01.2022 Lacking motivation? Feeling sluggish? Eating too many Tim-Tams? (ME RIGHT NOW oops ) Here is a tip to get you off your butt and start moving!... Move with purpose! Find exercises you enjoy rather than exercises that feels like a burden. With many of us locked down at home, finding exercise that we truly enjoy doing is easier said than done. Right now, any kind of movement is good movement, What I'm doing is listening to music/podcasts/audio books while I'm out for my walk/runs. I sometimes call a friend and walk/run together over a phone call! I do this with my clients and we both get our daily dose of cardio. This will keep you distracted and before you know it you have already exercised for 45 minutes! Remember you do not need to have equipment to exercise at home. Get motivated! You’ll work harder, your adrenaline will increase, the endorphins will flow and you’ll train harder than before! Inbox me if you are lacking motivation!

05.01.2022 Have more time on your hands but still finding excuses to not exercise? Staying active is proving to be even more important now that we are leading more sedentary lifestyles due to lock-down laws. Unfortunately our current global crisis may see rates of obesity increase, but we can prevent this by continuing to eat well and stay active.... Prioritize regular activity more than ever and this can be achieved through structuring your day! Creating a routine to follow on a daily basis allows you to slot in dedicated time to exercise as well as tick off any other tasks that you may be putting off doing! Not only will regular exercise benefit your physical health but will get those endorphins pumping to improve your mental health (Which we know can take a hit when you're stuck indoors for weeks!) Find a time you feel most energetic, whether it be a morning, afternoon or evening. No need to go crazy on the duration; 15-30 mins is plenty of time for a good workout. More importantly do something you ENJOY and you will be more likely to stick to it! If you need help structuring your exercise plan feel free to message me and I will get you sorted!

04.01.2022 Overeating during lock down? Simple strategies to avoid weight gain during this time The perception of staying at home can be enjoyable at first but after a while boredom can set in and with that overeating! ... Finding yourself going to the fridge and cabinets searching for food when you’re not actually hungry? We now know we are going to be in social isolation for a while longer so now it is important that we begin to think about the kinds of food we are eating and what we can do to prevent negative health effects occurring as a result of this period. The main strategy that can be implemented is swapping your unhealthy snacks with more nutrition dense ones, if you are so in love with your Netflix snack session then at least try to make it healthy! Some ideas include: -Swap lollies for dried fruit! E.g. dried apple, figs, dates and apricots. -Try dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate. Dark chocolate is loaded with antioxidants.just try not to eat a whole block -Instead of chips try some popcorn or roasted legumes or seeds! Popcorn is a great source of fibre and is low in fat (when not slathered in butter). Likewise so are roasted legumes and seeds. E.g. pepitas, sunflower seeds, roasted chickpeas. -Make yourself a platter with some dip and sticks of cucumbers, carrots and celery to munch on! Fresh fruit is also a great addition to this! - Nuts are a great source of healthy fats, fibre and protein which will keep you fuller for longer. If you are working from home, walnuts are a great choice as they have high levels of DHA essential for cognitive and brain health!! -Ditch the soft drink and opt for water! If this sounds boring then try adding some slices of citrus or your favourite fruit. Remember that the occasional treat is completely fine as long as it is enjoyed in moderation. Above ALL, if you don’t BUY unhealthy snacks in the first place you simply cannot eat them. So when you make the trip to the grocery store load up on some wholesome food and avoid purchasing junk food! Then when the boredom cravings kick in you may think twice whether the hike to the shops and the lining up to buy it is worth it! Stay healthy, safe and look after each other. This is a difficult time but we will all get through it!
