16.01.2022 Only a few of my words on the proposed Uni fee changes made it into the ABC News broadcast and article, >> so heres more on why I think we should be concerned, - choosing a career path is a big decision. Its important to consider your interests and what you enjoy, not just the cost of the course or market demand.... - theres no way that the fee structure can reflect the needs of the job market with the level of detail or agility that would be required to achieve the desired result. - course costs may influence some students, but most likely those who are less wealthy and more sensitive to cost. This is may cause inequity - the opposite of what we should be aiming for. - the fee structure could be trusted by students and parents to indicate how easy it will be to get a job in a certain field. The job market knowledge of students is already critically lacking and many end up struggling to find the graduate position they were expecting. Id love to hear what you think. I gave her these three pointers, 1) practice responses to typical questions (I know, obvious)... 2) give specific examples (*yawn* but still really important) and, 3) watch this TED talk and follow the advice! https://www.ted.com//amy_cuddy_your_body_language_may_shap The influence of body language on confidence and interview outcomes is astounding! She followed my advice and emailed me afterwards, OMG I actually cannot believe how much doing that stance for 2 minutes helped in the interview! I felt crazy confident. I remember one of my clients wanted to pursue professional writing. Unfortunately, she was told by someone that if words don't naturally flow out of you then you're not a 'writer'.... This comment held her back for years, but when I met her, I challenged this and encouraged her. > How can you be creative if you're constantly stressed and tired in your career? > How can you take the time to even consider what to write about, let alone format, style, and rhythm when you don't have time? > How can you focus on developing a craft when your headspace is full or overflowing with your current workload?
