25.01.2022 The History of ACD. We produced these wall plaques and others from 1990-2015. I hand-painted the original artwork which was digitised and then printed onto stone plaster tiles which we had produced in our factory, in large silicone moulds. The tiles were both heavy and fragile and our huge printer was a temperamental beast! But because of the printing method we used, these printed tiles were difficult for other companies to copy, a problem we had constantly with their carved bas-relief predecessors. We are still in business, but we have reinvented ourselves and have moved into home textiles and dinnerware. 16.01.2022 We set off early in the dark, walking the Portuguese Camino from Porto to Santiago in Spain, around 350km. As we walked out of Porto we came across a farmer's market just setting up. 14.01.2022 The history of ACD. As well as producing our own range of homewares, we used to have 5 retail outlets under the 'Gypsiana' name. I used to travel to Turkey on a regular basis to buy the most beautiful naive carpets from my favourite carpet sellers in Cemberlitas. They were hand loomed one at a time by women working at home. We always had layers of them on the floors of our Osborne Park, Cottesloe and Leederville stores, but although people loved them, they were a bit too out there for most people. I kept many and I'm glad I did. These beautiful colourful rugs are almost impossible to buy now and they still inspire my textile designs. www.annachandler.com #happyhomewares #colourandpattern

13.01.2022 The History of ACD. Back in 2003 we produced moulded wall plaques from our factory near Fremantle, WA. I was also designing patterns for placemats made offshore by a large well-known Australian placemat company. These were very popular, but like most artists, I received a tiny royalty on each set, amounting to not very much at all. I decided to travel overseas to find manufacturers I could deal with direct. Soon our imported products were subsidising our locally made products. 12.01.2022 The History of ACD. Back in 2005 we produced a huge range of carved, moulded and painted stone plaster wall plaques. I would make a slab of soft plaster, draw a design and carve it by hand. Then the original would be moulded by our ceramic technician and master mould-maker, who we called 'father Tim'. (not my brother Tim who also worked in the company). Then multiples could be moulded with liquid stone cement which, once set was fired and painted. It was an extremely hard and... laborious process and there were many companies which made a living just making moulds of my plaques and passing them off as their own. We eventually decided to get into printed plaques which were harder to copy. We are still in business after 35 years and have changed direction many times, as anyone in business knows is the only way to survive. I now design textiles and ceramics which are made for us offshore, though we still employ our Aussie team to market, pack, ship and process orders. www.annachandler.com #australiandesign #stillhere See more

02.01.2022 How do I design a tea towel? I paint and draw a few dozen different vases from my collection of flea-market finds over the years, using paint, crayon and ink. The images are then digitised and I manipulate them into the arrangement I like. The colours are changed until I get the balance I want. The design is then sent to our textile printer who creates a silk screen for each different colour, up to ten screens. The cotton tea towels are then printed, sewn, labelled and packed and are delivered to our warehouse where we then send them to you. It's quite a process!
