25.01.2022 Want 15 minutes of quiet? Let the child(ren) peel their own nuts! ...and in that same breath allow me to remind you how important it is we teach children where our food comes from (which is never from a plastic bag on a shelf in the supermarket). If children can grasp, early on, the connection between soil-seed-nurture/allow time-harvest they are much more likely to have a deep respect and understanding for their health, their body and our planet. ... Perhaps the most essential wisdom in life... See more

22.01.2022 So far I’ve been breastfeeding on and off for seven years. With each baby there hasn’t been ‘a plan’ I’ve just gone with the flow of the child and myself. It has gradually been easier and easier each time - first one was paiiiiiinful but a good learning curve. This one is a breeze I’ll be sharing all the details very soon. Breastfeeding can be such a tricky thing and I see the heartache and hard work women go through, and over the years it has become such a passion for ...me to help women have more knowledge and more support at succeeding with breastfeeding - so much so that I’ll soon be a certified lactation counsellor. Very exciting Much more on this topic soon - If you have questions about your breastfeeding journey (past, current or future) shoot me your questions below or in a DM And I’ll cover your questions in content coming soon #breastfeeding #lactation #postpartum #baby
21.01.2022 Folate is important in pregnancy, so are a wide range of other nutrients - but sometimes in the first trimester women feel so unwell that taking vitamins simply isnt doable. And sometimes a pregnancy multivitamin can makes symptoms worse!! Gasp! What do we do??? How do we get everything we need for our baby? Simplify. Focus on folate and on fresh fruit and vegetables. That usually does the trick. (Folate or folic acid is an umbrella term - usually a folinic acid is better ...tolerated ... but more on that at a later date) So, on this note I have a few tips to share and more to come .. And my clinic and phone line are open for bookings on Thursdays and Fridays www.annamaria.com.au Xxx A-M.
21.01.2022 Our baby girl Filippa Amelie arrived healthily and well at home on Monday surrounded by her sisters, her loving pappa and the most nurturing birth team one could wish for. We are all so in love with her I will share much more soon for now I’m juggling the delicate balance of keeping a postpartum bubble for myself and baby girl (incredibly important) but also being a mother of three bigger girls who of course still need their mother (also incredibly important). 21.01.2022 The Fourth Trimester A time of transformation, bonding, and slowing down. I LOVED all three postpartums' with each of my three girls, all different experiences but each time I knew how important it was to be fully present and do very little apart from bonding, healing and nourishing myself and my baby. Join me for my Live Event about the Fourth Trimester - doing the postpartum with awareness and knowledge - tickets and info available via the link here https://hubs.ly/H0lpJ...ZK0 Over the years as I have deepened my knowledge about infant health care and women's postpartum health it has become clear to me that we do not offer women and new families enough postpartum knowledge or support in society. Most new parents are finding the postpartum incredibly hard and isolating, and sadly many suffer from anxiety and depression. This is why I have created this live event to help prepare you as a woman/mother about what is ahead so you can have a beautiful transition into motherhood and improve your chances of having a blissful fourth trimester. This is a time in your life that is incredibly unique. Knowledge and preparation = invaluable!

20.01.2022 My hands are full and my head is tired, so to make sure my family’s fresh and whole food diet doesn’t get compromised we get a weekly delivery. It’s the only way to make it happen - I’ve said it before and I’m saying it again - If it’s not in your fridge you won’t make it
19.01.2022 I’ve experienced four different types of births. From a private hospital to home birth and the variants in between. All of them unique and special. But this birth, in my home, with my special people, and my kids witnessing what real labour and birth is, was extraordinary. More to be shared about this very soon. For now I’m reminiscing this very first moment meeting Filippa with the helping hand of @midwifejohunter - magic!
19.01.2022 HALLOWEEN is here! Trick-or-treating is so much fun but inevitably takes the little ones on a sugar high and then crash. Here's how you can help your little scary monsters today before they hit the streets for the annual lolly hunt and gathering. ... Load up their breakfast and lunch with solid protein and whole grains. A chicken avo and vege wholegrain wrap for lunch perhaps? Boiled eggs and sourdough bread for breakfast and a berry and spinach smoothie with hidden tahini, cinnamon and yoghurt for a snack. Fill up their little bellies with substantial food before you let them loose today. You may have a less manic bedtime situation at your hands later on if you do. Have fun kiddies!

16.01.2022 INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL - a day that recognises the unique challenges girls face and girls rights. Such as bodily autonomy .... something so important - the ability to be comfortable in their own skin, not placating others to be ‘liked’ and be ‘good girls’. I feel the layers and layers of this as I go through parent-life alongside these four girls. ... After Filippa’s arrival I can tell I have entered a vortex of this very deeply as I somehow have been gifted with four strong girls. Growing up in the modelling industry I know so, so well what hidden messages and expectations girls and (super) young women are faced with. Most is unspoken and incredibly confusing to navigate and very often girls lose touch with their own feeling of right and wrong, some never fully learn where their personal boundaries are because ... they are busy being (taught to be) a good girl. A simple thing as saying no or my personal favourite thanks but no thanks and not feeling guilty is so hard for many - but a very good place to start for a young girl. The very socially accepted forced hugs, forced smiles and comments of the degrees of ‘good girl that she is’ simply has to be seen a robbing the girl of her own personal space and boundaries. It’s not okay. I think it’s written in the stars that I get a chance to help navigate some of these absurd challenges for this little bunch at least ... although I hope to reach much further than my own little cosmos. There is, of course, much much more to this awareness day - What a special day to ponder on from our postpartum bubble. .... wait.... did I say f o u r girls!!!? #nationaldayofthegirl See more
14.01.2022 For genuine gut health benefits you need to ensure it is true sourdough bread - ideally, make your own (recipe for sourdough + the starter on my blog) and it's more cost-effective. Majority of generic breads will not have gone through the full fermentation process that offers the benefits that sourdough has. This homemade sourdough has been working hard all night (while we were fast asleep) to breakdown the grains that are hard to digest. It has additionally improved the nutrient content and contains prebiotics and probiotics that our digestion needs - the final product is pure yum!

13.01.2022 World Breastfeeding Week I support many women every year who wish to breastfeed but who face a range of challenges. Nipples too small/big, latching issues, blockages, exhaustion, postnatal depletion, infections, oversupply and undersupply - theres so much that a new mother (and baby) has to learn in a very short time - whilst being deprived of sleep. The number one thing I hear (and see) is that women feel bombarded with mixed messages, and very often (too often) get ...told they cant breastfeed and they give up. Ive seen the confusion, disrupted care, the insecurity and the frustration and pain new mothers go through. It all comes down to continuity of care in my opinion. Its not a new mothers fault or the baby. Its about giving new families the TIME they need to feel safe, supported and informed. Breastfeeding is a steep learning curve for all and it takes time to master. I use herbal medicine to help relieve lactation issues and also to combat infections (mastitis) but a woman needs so much more to find her breastfeeding groove. Breastfeeding is a magic time (weeks, months or years) for a mother and baby - so filled with closeness, the quiet sound of a nursing baby, the bonding and pure amazement that we can provide such complete nourishment to our little babies and watch them grow in front of our eyes. But we also need to be aware that breastfeeding can be temporarily painful and sometimes difficult. Women need to know they are not alone and you deserve support. So, to help new mothers and to offer more breastfeeding awareness Im extending the breastfeeding awareness week to the month of August with lactation support sessions at a reduced rate. 11.01.2022 The much needed quiet moments with my chai tea and baby girl. I absolutely love the fourth trimester. Although it’s not easy to surrender to the somewhat simple but demanding schedule of a newborn and to function with a slow and foggy brain function (hello hormones and sleep deprivation!!!) it is important to accept this altered state of being for while - and when you do surrender to it, it feels like magic - I get to feel the world from a newborns perspective, and it hel...ps our bond, my milk flow, her health, her sense of security and my physical healing. It’s hard for a woman in our society to be in the slow-ness of the postpartum - to do very little - but that’s an illusion. The work done in the fourth trimester, if not rushed, is a superior foundation for a lifetime of feeling loved, connected, valued and in most cases better health for both mother and child. so, in fact the fourth trimester is BIG work. So, to all my fellow and future mothers in the fourth trimester bubble - don’t rush it, cherish it. It’s a moment in time that is more important that we give it credit. #postpartum #fourthtrimester #motherhood #newborn #birth #birthdoula #infant #postpartumhealing

10.01.2022 Our mental health after birth can feel incredibly wobbly, unpredictable and vulnerable. There is a cascade of reasons for this (I cover this in my Fourth Trimester Event link here annamaria_boelskov), but I want to remind you today, that becoming a mother (or parent) is going to shake the ground you stand on. It's going to demand you to make shifts in your life to take better care of yourself both physically and emotionally inc. your relationships. ... It's a blessing, honestly, but can feel like a real rough ride. I support women in embracing this transformation by helping them get the foundation on track with nutrition and identify where there is lack or a need for growth. If you honour your self and your wellbeing by addressing what is being expressed within you - it can be a phenomenal transformation which, yes, takes work but will be well worth it when you put a stop to the unconscious habits that aren't serving you (or your child(ren)). The alternative is to ignore and keep pressing onwards, which is agony - the negative mind chatter, the frustrations, your unexpressed needs, the shame and sadness will surface one way or another. You are important! You matter! Today is a perfect day to take a step towards prioritising your self! Where will you start today?

09.01.2022 When we have babies of our own, our lives and needs can get kicked to the curb from one moment to the next Your needs, your personal time, your sleep, your diet... forget it, the kid(s) needs you, and one moment swallows the next. By the time your child has been tucked into bed (if they do end up sleeping, that is). You can feel so starved for time and personal space, and the dinner you inhaled (if you at all got to eat dinner) probably didn't cover your 'well-balanced nutr...ient-pyramid-daily-intake profile', and in the end, you are drained and over it. Unhealthy feel-good snacks are then hard to resist for a quick boost of energy. Recognise this scenario? Theres a vicious circle here, and I know it can feel relentless and hard to break out of. Without a healthy body and a nutrient-dense diet, we get overwhelmed, have mood swings, exhaustion, and then it all rolls from there... This can lead to a state of cellular depletion. When we are in a state of depletion, it is like swimming against the tide, and we feel like we are drowning. Here is my approach and my advice: Get clear on your essentials. What do you need to feel well, whole and Drill down and find out what your lifelines are. (friends, family, therapists) Working out where and how to create some space for yourself (physically and emotionally). When I work with parents in my clinic to combat burnout and depletion, I find that it takes a multifactorial approach. By getting the baseline nutrition right, screening for deficiencies and putting a lifestyle plan in place works wonders. Parents very often will email me after their consult to thank me before they have event started our plan - the fact that someone can help unravel their current situation helps lift their mood and wellbeing immensely right way. If you need help navigating motherhood/parenthood, you can find the link to my clinic in the bio here https://hubs.ly/H0lP6nv0
08.01.2022 Oat Bath Anyone? This is an easy home kids remedy: Oat Poultice. Oats are soothing and calming, both internally and externally. (I use organic whole rolled oats) Here's a photo of my daughter after she got bitten, all over, by a bug while she was climbing a tree. She was itchy and had a red rash on her legs and arms. I made her a bath (no soap) and an oat poultice to help soothe her rash. The rash was gone shortly after the bath and soothed the itching within a few minutes. ...This can also be a helpful addition for anyone with chronic skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis. My kids love it as it makes the bath look 'milky'. My clinic is open every Saturday - visit me if you need support and advice for yourself or your children. Bookings are available here https://hubs.ly/H0lxmkJ0

07.01.2022 A brief work snack for this pregnant mamma and sweet flowers from the most precious #motherblessing I could ever have wished for. As I get closer to the time of birth a wholesome, gluten-free, fibre rich and nourishing diet is what keeps me feeling well and not over it. Totally understandably (its a heavy load!) but instead I find myself in awe that my body has now carried four fu...ll term babies over 10 years and I am still feeling good. It is nothing short of miraculous and precious to be able to do this. So, I will enjoy the few remaining weeks of holding my baby in my womb. 05.01.2022 Stress, fear, sadness, joy, excitement and of course, love, all have a direct expression and manifestation onto the body. Hence mind and body cannot be treated in isolation. When it comes to children's health, it is pivotal to help them grasp the concept of exploring and being a detective of what feelings are from the beginning as we guide them through their young years. Your child's "good" or "bad" eating habits, behaviour, sleep, learning, and development will all be a ref...lection of their emotional and mental state and vice versa (this is where your local naturopath comes to the rescue ). Ultimately this approach (exploring feelings with your child without judgement) will reduce and even eliminate shame and fear from feeling and expressing what bubbles up inside their growing mind and bodies. Can you think of anything more rewarding or more important?

02.01.2022 Medicine for us all there is no perfect diet, perfect supplement or perfect way to prepare for motherhood, but preparation is key! Motherhood takes constant fine tuning, adjustments, and patience. Its a combination of approaches that work the best which ultimately boils down to being honest with yourself and having a place (or places) where you can get help and feel supported. The majority of the work I do with women is talk and help clear the mental/emotional fog so she ...can tap into her own inner expert, her innate wisdom (of course I also help address diet/lifestyle/supplements/pathology/etc) - its always different and each mother deserves the time and care she needs. That way she can give back to her baby ten fold. And THAT is wonderful to watch. Lets open up more and talk more about what is REALLY going on - lets normalise the realities of motherhood reach out if you feel stuck and unwell physically/emotionally. I love this image its exactly what it feels like when you have someone to hold space for you - do you agree? See more
02.01.2022 Casual gaze at the horizon... Can we be neutral about the future, the unknown? Be aware of where you want to go with yourself and your life. Plan carefully but then let it be. Sounds contradicting, yes I know. ... As we set goals for our health, the big catch is that we are deadset on it being perfect. That's not realistic, and it's not kind to yourself. The new year brings new clients through my clinic doors with long lists of changes to make and goals to nail. ASAP. That approach won't sustain the work that has to take place, and we must appreciate the gradual process of changing habits (perhaps life long unhealthy habits), the steps we must take to pave the way for new ways to take hold. It's slow and steady stuff. Succeding in health is about looking at the future with each new step forward being more informed, more conscious and with more self-love. I love making these plans with women in my clinic, helping them connect to their needs and value their self-care. It's special, and women feel stronger for it. Know yourself, know what needs to change and take steps every day to better health. Appointments are available via the link here https://hubs.ly/H0m_93s0 See more
