21.01.2022 Best of luck to the class of 2020 who are commencing their HSC exams today. Keep calm, you've got this!

18.01.2022 Most of you may recognise Travis Winks from our local airwaves. What you may not know is that the Wave FM radio presenter recently released his memoir titled, Shattered. This book depicts an unbelievably sad but true chain of events that lead to his family's self destruction over a period of 67 days in 2016. Importantly the book is a raw insight into the devastating impacts of mental illness and domestic violence on his family. The 67 days of pain started on 12 September 2016..., when Winks' older brother Trent attempted suicide. His sister, a victim of prolonged domestic violence and at her breaking point, was then jailed for destroying her abusers car and trying to end her life by ramming a tree. In a culmination of events, his father was shot dead by police on the family property in Freestone, Queensland, on 17 November 2016. His mother had called the police to the family property, fearing that Winks' father was going to end his own life with a gun. Travis' story is harrowing, raw and honest. His book is a must read and highlights the very real impact that mental illness and domestic violence can have on families and relationships. My heartfelt thanks goes out to Travis for his support of my campaign to criminalise coercive control in NSW. On Wednesday, I shared Travis' story in Parliament. Check out the footage below

17.01.2022 Well done Stockland, absolutely necessary

16.01.2022 Another day, and tragically yet another woman has lost her life at the hands of her partner in an alleged domestic violence incident. Lynda Greenwood was found dead on a driveway, outside a block of flats in Como this morning. Her on-and-off again partner has since been arrested and is expected to be charged with her murder. How many women will lose their lives before the Berejiklian Government finally commits to taking real action against domestic violence in New South Wales...? Coercive control must be criminalised in NSW now!

15.01.2022 Today, tomorrow and every day, we must do what we can to eliminate violence against women. #whiteribbonday

15.01.2022 It's Halloween tomorrow. If your children are trick-or treating this Halloween, NSW Health has provided some tips on how they can have fun in a COVID-safe way: 1. Carry hand sanitiser with you and use it often 2. Stay in small groups 3. Keep 1.5 metres away from other households... 4. Use a disposable bag for trick-or-treating and throw it out afterwards 5. Stay local, avoid crowded treat streets 6. Only accept treats that are individually wrapped 7. Don’t share your treats with others from different households For more information visit https://www.health.nsw.gov.au//covid-19/Pages/halloween-ad

14.01.2022 Great to have Sally Stevenson, General Manager of the Illawarra Women's Health Centre in Parliament today. We got the chance to check out Illawarra Mercury photographer, Sylvia Liber's prize winning body of work entitled 'Strength and Resilience'. The feature image of the portfoilio is a photograph of Vicki Roach entitled, Fierce. This image of Vicki featured on the front page of the Illawarra Mercury in March to announce the 'Road to Recovery' campaign in conjuction with th...e Illawarra Women's Health Centre. The campaign called for government support to help design an Australian first domestic violence trauma recovery centre for the Illawarra. A few weeks later, after successfully lobbying the NSW Government, I secured a $50,000 in funding for the IWHC to support the development of a business case for their proposal for a trauma recovery centre. Congratulations to Sylvia Liber who won the 2020 Nikon-Walkey Community /Regional Prize for this body of work. A big thank you to Sally Stevenson and all of the wonderful staff at the IWHC for the important work that they do in our community.

14.01.2022 I’m calling on local residents to dig deep and help make a difference to the lives of women doing it tough this Christmas. My office will be a collection point for the Share the Dignity It’s in the Bag’ 2020 Christmas appeal. All donations will go directly to women experiencing homelessness, fleeing domestic violence or living in crisis.... Sadly, women escaping abusive relationships are often faced with financial hardship, with domestic violence being the main cause of homelessness for women. They are often forced to flee their family homes in order to escape their abuser and are left with nowhere to go. Let’s ensure that these women are not forgotten this festive season. Donations are needed of new or pre-loved bags or backpacks filled with basic essentials including sealed packets of pads or tampons, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, soap or body wash and roll-on deodorant. Alternatively, an ‘Essentials for Mum and Bub bag’ can be donated, filled with sealed maternity pads, breast pads, newborn nappies, baby shampoo, baby conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, roll-on deodorant, baby soap or body wash, disposable nappy bags, baby wipes, dummies and nappy rash cream. In the spirit of Christmas, you may choose to add gifts or products that someone experiencing hardship, may otherwise go without this holiday season. The following items will not be accepted: pharmaceutical items (including condoms, throat lozenges, paracetamol and ibuprofen), food and drinks, sharp objects (including razors and scissors) and loose tampons/pads. The bags themselves must be in good condition and will be delivered to those in need, in time for Christmas. Donations can be dropped off at my office located at Shop 3, 10 College Avenue, Shellharbour City Centre, between the hours of 9am and 5pm. If you would like more information about Share the Dignity’s It’s in the Bag’ 2020 Christmas appeal, please visit: https://www.sharethedignity.org.au

11.01.2022 Some budding artists coming out of Dapto Public School! Well done to Dapto Public School students and their art teacher, Andrew Hedger, who have brought their annual art gallery, titled Mona Lisa Reimagined, to the community. This year students were tasked with appropriating the most famous artwork of all time, the Mona Lisa. I may be biased, but I think some of these artworks give Da Vinci's original portrait a run for its money!

11.01.2022 A big congratulations to the mighty Oak Flats Falcons who have soared above the rest to take out the 2020 District League First Grade championship. This year the club has not one, but two teams headed into the Football South Coast district league grand finals. Best of luck to both the first grade and second grade teams this weekend, I'll be cheering you on.

10.01.2022 Every worker has the right to receive a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work. It is a simple truth, underpaying workers is theft and it’s time that was reflected in our legislation. New South Wales must commit to criminalising wage theft now! #uniontown

07.01.2022 Happy National Teacher's Day to all of the wonderful teachers out there!

07.01.2022 The 2020-21 budget has delivered no real surprises for our region. No new school for West Dapto and no Service NSW centre for the Shellharbour electorate. $14 million has been allocated for the upgrade of Dapto Public School, a project that was first announced in 2017.... Dapto Public School is the only public school to service the West Dapto area and is currently bursting at the seams. Whilst I welcome the funding to upgrade this school, I am bitterly disappointed that current and future residents of West Dapto will not get a new school. The new Shellharbour Hospital is a step closer to reality with $10 million allocated for early works. I fought hard for a new facility to replace the existing Shellharbour Hospital and am pleased to see this long-awaited project finally coming to fruition. We need new schools in West Dapto (8 according to Wollongong City Council) and we need a Service NSW centre in the Shellharbour electorate. I will continue to hold the Berejiklian Government to account, standing up for our community and fighting for our fair share.

04.01.2022 Today, I caught up with my parliamentary colleagues, Shadow Treasurer Walt Secord, and Paul Scully MP, at a Pre-NSW Budget Roundtable to discuss local projects that should be prioritised in the NSW Budget in November. It was great to hear from local business and community leaders about their visions for our region.
