24.01.2022 While our school is closed for classes we are all working hard on book projects. As well as producing new editions of PATTERNS OF FASHION I, 2, 3 and 4, we are ...making progress with PATTERNS OF FASHION 6 and will shortly announce the first book in our new PATTERNS OF FASHION: CASE STUDY series. All these books will all be on sale in 2021. Several of these books will include patterns for very long garments for which we will utilise fold-out pages so their pattern shapes can be viewed uninterrupted. We have just received some dummy books from our printer to show us these gatefolds in action. See more

21.01.2022 CULTURAL APPROPRIATION It is about power, and always exists within a framework of oppression and colonialism. It exists within the double-edged sword of cultur...al erasure and cultural theft. But it’s not just the theft, it’s the hypocrisy. writes @celinecelines in our #FashionRevolution zine issue 004, FASHION CRAFT REVOLUTION. This diagram was created by our head of design, Emily Sear @hiya_m8 in response to the essay. 20.01.2022 So many flowers have been brewing backstage here, and Im excited to start showing you! This isnt an Australian native, but the wild Iris is grown on my str...eet and I see it all the time. Call me inspired! I couldnt help but recreate those beautiful colours. Check out the absolutely STUNNING swirly white acrylic with a golden shimmer. It is swoon-worthy (and I dont say that lightly). Im hearing lots of requests for flowers - this beauty will be in a brooch, earrings and necklace. Hope you had a relaxing weekend and are looking forward to the week ahead. I have a lot of packaging to do, and also polishing up some paintings for a display soon.

14.01.2022 " You don't have to be pretty. You don't owe prettiness to anyone. Not to your boyfriend, spouse, partner, not to your co-workers, especially not to random men ...on the street. You don't owe it to your mother, you don't owe it to your children, you don't owe it to civilization in general. Prettiness is not a rent you pay for occupying a space marked ' female'." 13.01.2022 This beautifully embroidered robin's egg blue robe à la française of the 1750s was altered, first in the 1780s and then c. 1870-1910 for [Mrs Daffodil can barely repress a shudder] fancy dress. http://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O317953/sack-unknown/

11.01.2022 Worth watching to the end for some stunning Gaelic songs. "Music is in the soul of these people and it is as natural as talk. There are songs of weaving, songs ...of spinning, songs for carding, songs for the crottle gathering. Traditional and melodious, as only such a people could make, living as they do in a land where the errant voices of the wind forever whisper. But of all their songs there are none more spirited, or which call for more united effort of harmony and rhythm than the cloth is waulked, or beaten until the fibers swell and the cloth is fully shrunk. It may take ten songs to make it so, for here is a people who reckon effort, nay, even life itself by the length of a song. A people with a lesson for us all, and who are able to transmute the dross of individual drudgery to the gold of united effort through the power of melody." From 'Eriskay: A poem of remote lives' filmed by Werner Kissling during the summer of 1934. Full video in comments.

09.01.2022 Retired chemistry teacher Bro. Martin Sellner shared his triumph of completing a cross-stitch Periodic Table after two decades of stitching. The 82-year-old Las...allian brother meticulously hand-stitched every inch of the 58" x 54" embroidery. "The table and border took six years. 04.01.2022 It is painful to think on but true that every little change in attire choices women have wished to make in the past has been met with fierce refusal, resulting ...in derision, and even occasionally, arrest. Those who were born after 1980 never had to deal with the trousers issue, but I certainly remember that it wasnt until I was a sophomore in High School that my fellow classmates who were female were permitted to wear pants, where only a few years before, even culottes would have gotten a girl suspended from class and sent home. This image is from 1940 in Brooklyn, New York where a group of high school attendees were protesting their not being allowed to wear trousers to class. We do move forward, but not nearly fast enough for some of us. See more
