24.01.2022 Last weekend I deleted all social media off of my phone. I've been feeling more and more like I'm consuming too much digital media, not contributing enough and getting lost in the endless scroll. After seeing a trend of weekend digital detox I decided to do it myself. I tried in the past with app timers that lock you out after a certain amount of time but that wasn't working, after seeing @corageroux deletes the apps I thought.... I could do that . Omg what a liberation! ...It was so unbelievably easy, it gave me no choice but presence, no choice but active participation, no choice but IRL. After a week of feeling disconnected in my grief it gave me a beautiful fresh dose of connection I desperately needed. . So from now on I'll be switching off entirely from all social media platforms every weekend! I'm flipping excited! Hooray for the power and joy of small changes. . . . . nicole . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #digitaldetox #presence #yogicpath

21.01.2022 So lately I've been thinking a lot about concepts of alchemy. This idea of a subtle mixing and transmutation of matter. How each and every person is a unique creation of inheritance, experience, adversity, personality and growth. Each personal quality interacting with each individual event to create lenses through which you will see and interact with the world. . It really is true. No one will ever be you. It is impossible to replicate your life, your experience, you. . How... wonderfully incredible and beautiful. How very necessary you are to the environment around you. How no one could replace you. . How wonderful that you are here. . . Annie xxx See more

17.01.2022 Do you ever feel excited for no reason? Sometimes I get these little waves of excitement and joy and I can't think of a thing it's singularly related to, it reminds me that despite the horrors of the world around us, I still have an unending list of things to be deeply grateful for. Three things I'm grateful for today: 1. That I can turn the heater on in my home, any time I need. That I have warm clothes and a safe warm home to return to every evening. 2. That I am constan...tly blessed with the presence of loving people. In my personal life and my work, the gorgeous people who come to my yoga sessions and share so generously with me their inner world. My heart overflows with gratitude. 3. The beautiful creative hair colour and the time @atarahwellness gave me with this fresh organic blue. It's totally refreshed me and I'm overjoyed. Thank you Jess! You're a wonderful artist xx . . . 16.01.2022 Feeling replenished and satisfied after a full day cooking and teaching yoga on Saturday. I love the very beginning of cold weather it makes me want to cook comforting food, so naturally I made roasted cherry tomato sugo (with roasted garlic) to put over tasty pastas and used some of it as a divine base for lentil and spinach baby pies. (Best with sweet tomato chutney) . . . I feel so grateful for all of this divine local produce that's so available to me here and all the s...atisfying nourishing things I can create with it . The red lentils were even grown by @botanecology just down the road! How's that for local! Best Christmas gift ever . . . How satisfying is the red from these over ripe tomato? . . 16.01.2022 I am grieving the loss of a much loved one. Along with my family, who each grieve in their own way. . We know grief is not a linear process. We know it is experienced by us all differently. . 15.01.2022 Louis loves a headstand, he literally flopped on to my face as soon as my legs were up. . . I've been thinking a lot about personal asana practice vs going to classes. I feel like people always talk about asana practice in terms of tapas or discipline. Those who know me well know that discipline isn't exactly my favourite word... . .... For me personal asana practice is more about practicing sequences of my own creative design, getting to play, taking some extra time to try out new things, working on progression or exploring shapes without pressure. Being in my body and with myself . . Classes are a beautiful way to continue to learn, connect with community and make sure you don't get in to a rut, even as a yoga facilitator myself I love going to classes and learning from others, being inspired by their words and teaching and also for the challenge... I'm such a softie in my personal practice and teaching so public classes are always stretching me! Haha . . Each way of practicing offers something different, new things to learn and enjoy . . You don't have to punish to succeed. Enjoy what there is to enjoy. Especially in times like this . . Annie Xxxx . . . . . . . . . . . . . #asana #practice #yoga #thoughts #tapas? See more

12.01.2022 Now that it's really winter here in South Australia (and I have my hands on that fermented sesame-not-soy sauce) it's time for delicious, delicious vegetable dumpling soup! . . This light broth and dumplings is supposed to be beneficial for keeping the chest healthy and the sinuses clear, but mostly for me it's because it's delicious and full of yummy veggies! It took me a total 20mins to make. You make dumplings? Great! If not buy some- it'll still be delicious! . . Dumpling... soup for two . . Vegetable stock of choice 1litre 2 spring onions 1/2 fresh chili (optional for all you @meghannlawrance 's out there!) 4 tablespoons of soy sauce) 1-2tbsps sesame oil 1 heaped teaspoon sugar optional few bits of grated ginger Serve of noodles of choice (wheat, soba, hokkien) 1 bunch of pak/bok choy Handful of dried mushroom* 2 tablespoons of dried seaweed* see alts below 12 dumplings (no one is judging you for store bought) . 08.01.2022 ALL Black Lives Matter. As we stand with black Americans against the horrendous abuse, brutality and mistreatment that they have endured, we must acknowledge and stand with Aboriginal Australians against the historical and current mistreatment, brutality, abuse and subjugation they have suffered. 07.01.2022 Sometimes when I'm facilitating a yoga asana class whatever the style, when there are guided moments of "checking in", I often notice someone staring frustrated or seemingly bored in to the distance. . There is so many things I want to say to this, but firstly and most importantly, that's okay! . It's okay if it's taking work to slow down, it's okay if you're not "in the practice" right away. It's something that develops through continued practice, but even then... ... . Every day is different and we are different every day, or at least I feel this to be true of myself. It would be unfair to expect us to come to our mat and practice "perfectly" on any day let alone every day. . The subtler experiences of yoga are wonderful and truly build through compassionate practice. Which applies to us as yoga teachers just as much as it does to new yoga students. So if you practiced today like I did and struggled, that's okay, tomorrow is a new day with new offerings and experiences. . Sometimes I find it very easy to tune in, others it takes a bit of work and time; and as my practice continues, my awareness of self and the endless subtleties of yoga expands too. . .
