23.01.2022 Inspired by an afternoon isolation walk at Canal Rocks with my lovely girl Oakley
22.01.2022 What to do with left over acrylic paint scraped out of old pots??? Collage it onto a ground and play with pattern of course
21.01.2022 Just felt like drawing today.... I picked up these two figures in Lovina... Bali. I think they are Javanese characters - a wedding couple I loved them when I saw them and finally couldn’t leave the market without them
20.01.2022 A friend if mine is organising an exhibition called ‘Freedom In Isolation’. The theme is hoping to capture each artist’s inward journey during this novel time. Western Australia didn’t experience the serious isolation and lockdown measures that many countries did... but we still had time to contemplate. As my sister also died during this period the experience really caused me to think about our interconnectedness. Mixed media A3... 420mm x 29.5mm See more
18.01.2022 Just started splashing around paint this afternoon... bliss. I had about 5 different things on the go. I keep starting new ideas to use up the paint from what I was just doing... haha. No wonder my palette is often so similar!! Where shall I go with this one ??? No agenda !! Edit: just back from Shark Bay.... maybe that aqua ocean is on my mind
16.01.2022 Mindfulness. Just creating patterns that remind me of the interconnectedness of life. We’re all a drop in the ocean and a distant star.
14.01.2022 Playing with light and shades. It makes me really appreciate the old masters who spent years perfecting how to capture light! It’s such an elusive and often counterintuitive task.
14.01.2022 We’re back on! First drawing class back today with 6 students. This is a drawing 101 course for beginners or somebody wanting to brush up on their skills. Today we covered drawing with awareness, learning to really see, mark making and the basic observational drawing process. First efforts for my happy students.... great job everyone!!
14.01.2022 Working on a neutrally washed background and playing with ink and water colour. This is an exercise I did while I was waiting for inspiration to descend upon me Always feels good to keep my skills up... I’m always working with a concept I’m trying to understand better or develop. What do you find challenging???
11.01.2022 WIP.... another happy afternoon whiled away. Last week I sketched this arrangement in water colour .... you always know so much more about a composition the second time around. I wanted to play here by starting with a dark cobalt background and bring the subject forward. Can’t wait to finish it
11.01.2022 Reminding myself of Mother’s Day love It’s the simple things.... Small watercolour 19cm x 13cm
10.01.2022 It must be Springtime! I started this with no end in mind. I think you could call it intuitive drawing ... I was thinking about creating a layered effect ... and playing with soft water colours. Has your step been lighter with the increased sunshine?? My heart has been soaring!
09.01.2022 Funny how you arrive at things...... This started out as a linoprint discard created to use up excess paint. I drew back into it with pencil, painted back in with acrylic to use up more excess paint... and ended up collaging the surface Love starting out with no agenda.
08.01.2022 Oak and my rock mandalas. Very different approaches - Oak’s are well planned and definitely more symmetrical I get bored about half way through and rush the finish
08.01.2022 Acrylic on water colour paper. I like playing with materials, marks and surfaces. There was a nice juxtaposition here between the matt paper and the acrylic sheen.
07.01.2022 Still leaning back into Hundertwasser’s idea of Nature + Beauty = Happiness... and his hidden faces connected to nature. Started out on brown paper... my muddy palette reflects this
07.01.2022 I drew this lil guy for Oakley for her birthday. Just a watery reminder of how much we both love the ocean and it’s inhabitants! Oakley Driscoll
06.01.2022 I was completely absorbed this afternoon- painting for many hours uninterrupted... total flow When this happens time stands still and nothing else is on my mind. Still haven’t finished though.... haha
04.01.2022 Lots of play today. I picked up this half finished painting and worked back into it.... it was a painting I started in a workshop with @carmenmcfaull. We were sitting between showers in the rain painting directly from the bush at Meelup. Thanks for the inspiration
04.01.2022 I’ve had about 4 or 5 things on the go this afternoon. It’s a great way to work... tinker with one piece while another one drys. It gives me a chance to step away and look with fresh eyes.
01.01.2022 This is part of a canvas I have been working on. When I say working on - I have actually overpainted it so many times!! You know how they say don’t worry - you can’t wreck a painting.... you can’t fail, you just paint over it. Haha. Well I’m still in the middle bit at the moment where I wasn’t happy with it. I am in the painting over it stage - but I’m happy with this section
