25.01.2022 The more clinical trials and research we do, the more traction our profession will receive and the more lives we can positively impact. Well done Endeavour.

22.01.2022 Ah, the gut brain connection. The research is fascinating and there is still so much we don’t know. The old naturopathic philosophy of healing the gut has never seemed more relevant.

19.01.2022 Fascinating read. Sanitisation, antibiotics and anti microbial’s yes, they’re all needed however, have we taken it too far in some circumstances.

17.01.2022 Such a humbling experience to have contributed two chapters to this amazing textbook. It’s an evidence based textbook like no other and will pave the way for our profession. #evidencebasednaturopthy #clinicalnaturopathicmedicine2nded #thankful

15.01.2022 Research behind medicinal Cannabis is definitely gaining traction and these two amazing colleagues are at the forefront in Australia. Their research focuses on medicinal cannabis and it’s potential benefit on endometriosis and it’s associated symptoms! I’m definitely excited about all this so watch this space!

13.01.2022 It’s March and that means, Endometriosis Awareness month. It’s time to get the conversation going and talk about this condition. We don’t need to suffer in silence. So much amazing research is being conducted as there is still so much to know and learn. There is still no cure for endometriosis and there is not one cause of it either. It’s an abyss of unknowns and everyone’s driving factors are different. What we do know is oestrogen, viruses/bugs, disruption in peritoneal flu...id and inflammatory changes all can contribute. Talk to your sister, your wife, your friend, your cousin, your daughter, your colleague, your mum and your aunty. Discussions around periods can no longer be taboo. Don’t settle for people saying it’s just period pain. The more we talk, the more we learn and the more we can make positive changes. 12.01.2022 My new website is now live. Keep an eye out for regular posts and informative articles. www.empoweredhealthwellbeing.com.au

11.01.2022 I spent the weekend up in Brisbane for the Integria Symposium. The theme was environmental toxicity and the ramifications these insidious chemicals have on our health. Amazing and inspirational group of speakers. A few take home messages to implement into your day to day: Avoid all forms of plastics and replace with glass/stainless steel Avoid products of the ocean ... Eat organic and if not affordable, consume the clean 15 foods and avoid the dirty dozen Avoid personal hygiene products that aren’t natural and ensure they’re fee of parabens, phthalates and nasty chemicals Look into a home water filtration system. Just making a few simple changes can have a huge impact on reducing your toxic exposure and whole body burden.

11.01.2022 As a clinician I find it quite comical when nutrients become ‘news worthy’. PEA has a substantial amount of evidence backing it already and clinically, I have being prescribing it for many months and patients have noticed great benefit in relieving pain associated with conditions such as arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and mood disturbances. When patients are able to reduce their dosage of pharmaceutical medications due to adequate analgesia from PEA, it’s a win win situation.

09.01.2022 More evidence to support the crucial role our microbiota has on our offspring. This further emphasises the importance of preconception and pregnancy care

08.01.2022 Wanting to eat organically but can’t afford it or, don’t have access to it. Read my recent blog post about The Clean 15 and Dirty Dozen https://www.empoweredhealthwellbeing.com.au/blog/

08.01.2022 Science has finally caught up. Recent research has found a fetus has its own gut microbiome via transference through the placenta from the mother. Another win for preconception care and any one who knows me, knows I’m big on preconception care. We can really make a huge difference on the health of our offspring and future generations! Can’t wait to see what future research indicates! Watch this space...

08.01.2022 Being in isolation due to social distancing is not easy. Over time, it may make us feel flat and anxious. Let’s face it, we humans don’t function very well during times of uncertainty. Here are a few of my tips that may help you cope during this time. Wake up at your usual time. Breaking routine throws us and potentially, causes more angst. if you’re working from home great however, if you’ve unfortunately been stood down, plan your day. Think about what you would like to ...accomplish each day and tick it off your check list as you go along. This ensures you still feel like your doing something purposeful. Exercise. Exercise provides us with endorphins and is a great support for the immune system. Dedicate 30minutes per day to walking, Pilates, yoga or resistance training. Whatever it is, just ensure it gets your heart rate going. Journal. It’s okay to feel anxious and flat. You are not alone but don’t let those feelings consume you. Acknowledge them, think about them and release them. This can be in the way of writing your feelings on paper, typing them up and deleting the word document, or, speak to a friend. Practice breathing techniques. @iceman_hof and his breathing technique is amazing and really aids in dealing with anxiety and those negative thoughts Support your nervous system. During this time, it is best to avoid stimulants such as anything that contains caffeine. Caffeine is excitatory and can worsen your anxiety. Consume warm beverages such as lemon balm, lavender, spearmint and nettle teas. Nourish your body. Now isn’t the time to consume junk. Eat a Whole Foods diet and lots of delicious warming food such as soups and stews. The immune system craves nutritious food. Now is the time to consume your 5 serves of vegetables and 2 serves of fruit. We may not be able to see our loved ones in person however, it doesn’t mean communication must cease. Check in on your friends and family daily. The beauty of technology is we can video call everyone and apps such as Houseparty make it even more fun and provides a good laugh. Let’s face it, we all need a laugh in this current climate #naturopath #nutritionist #holistichealth

06.01.2022 Today is world osteoporosis day. 1in3 women and 1in5 men, over the age of 50 are diagnosed with this condition. It is certainly preventable through adequate exercise and quality nutrients in the diet . We know calcium is required for strong bones however, did you know you also need adequate Vitamin D, boron, Magnesium and Vitamin K2 to aid in calcium’s absorption?! No matter what your age, have your vitamin d levels checked, make sure they’re at least sitting at 100, get movi...ng (cycling, resistance training, running), have a bone density scan every 2 years from the age of 50 and reduce caffeine, sugar and phosphates (ie soft drink) in the diet as they all block the absorption of key vitamins and minerals for bone health, increase calcium rich foods broccoli, sesame, spinach, almonds and soft cheeses. To make a difference, we need to start all this from the moment our children are walking and eating a varied diet. After all, the health of future generations starts with our children. See more

03.01.2022 Wanting to reduce your toxin exposure, read my latest blog. https://www.empoweredhealthwellbeing.com.au/blog/

02.01.2022 Ah, the microbiome. So much fascinating research being published. This article highlights the importance of delayed bathing of newborns, thus allowing greater exposure to the Vernix (waxy coating babies are born with, that contains amazing and important microbes). This ensures greater exposure to beneficial microbes as well proteins necessary for immune function.

02.01.2022 It’s been all about the microbiome lately and it’s truly fascinating. Attending a seminar last week, it was highlighted that when using probiotics, the strains should be cycled meaning, we shouldn’t use the same strains all the time. By changing strains every few months, it provides a greater opportunity for diverse species to colonise and therefore, improve overall health.
