04.01.2022 Cyathea brownii or the Norfolk Island Tree Fern is the largest of the tree ferns. It is a tall and elegant single trunked fern with deeply divided fronds that can grow to 6 metres in length making a huge umbrella crown. The dead fronds hang straight down and drop cleanly off, keeping it very tidy.... Frond bases are covered in a whiskery fawn and brown scales. This is a magnificent tree fern in height and width. Soil: Deep, moist and well drained loams. Maintenance: Remove dead fronds and water the trunk with a drip hose, especially in summer. It has a limited root system which is why it drinks through its trunk. It likes humidity and they generally like a spray from the hose often or just set a drip hose at the top of the trunk so the water runs down it. Diseases: Ferns are so simple they don't know how to get sick. Other Species: 600 species in the genus - the largest fern species next to the Asplenium Comments: This fern was featured in the Guinness Book of Records as the tallest tree fern.

02.01.2022 Norfolk Island Specialists present Norfolk Islandk Island Bounty Day-8th June A day that is precious to Norfolk Islander's hearts is Anniversary Day, otherwise known as Bounty Day. Each year on the 8th of June a celebration takes place in remembrance of the day their Ancestors arrived from Pitcairn Island. While some Bounty Day traditions may have changed over the years, the clothes, the food and the sense of belonging never change, with an emotional bonding portrayed every ...single year. Rain, hail or shine, locals gather on the Kingston pier dressed in their traditional outfits, all fitted with locally made 'Bounty Hats'. This is something you have to see to believe. It's like a wonderful step back in time. As visitors we are encouraged to attend and watch from afar, but bring your camera as this is something you will not see anywhere else and really needs to be captured. With a small re-enactment of the landing to start the day, a lighter (boat) is launched off the pier and into the water. After a short row, the passengers are welcomed to the island by two people role-playing the historical characters of Mr and Mrs Stewart, who were the caretakers of Norfolk Island until the Pitcairn people arrived.NORFOLK All holiday packages are on request www.gateway-travel.com.aui
