25.01.2022 "He wanted a voice out there about Aboriginal people still being around, and still having connection to the land."

25.01.2022 "We knew that we had a big problem and we really needed to look at what we could do to reach those children way, way, way earlier, particularly in the first three years. That's when they're brains are growing super fast and they're learning all sorts of things about listening and communication.

24.01.2022 'The Northern Territory and Federal Government plan to develop the Beetaloo Basin's rich gas resources to try to regenerate the economy is facing a new roadblock. Indigenous native title holders have decided to take the power to negotiate about whether a major fracking industry starts on their land, away from the Northern Land Council. They've established their own negotiating body to try to stop the industry moving from exploration to production.'

24.01.2022 Teela Reid for Griffith Review: How well we continue to nurture the seeds of First Nations sovereignty remains relevant to how well we create and hold space for respectful conversations that are grounded in truth. This personal shift needs to galvanise collective action to transform the power structures of our society. This is the hard work.

24.01.2022 "Let this be a wake-up call to them all: our people were on this continent long before mining companies arrived and we’ll be here long after they’re gone. The decisions made now will determine how much of what makes Australia profoundly unique will still be standing when they go." Jamie Lowe, CEO NNTC

24.01.2022 They will also find out their totems, their heritage names. They will know the place names of where they come from.

23.01.2022 "[To] also get them involved from a community perspective with our bush tucker garden and yarning circle, and not only celebrate NAIDOC week but continue to celebrate Indigenous culture."

23.01.2022 It’s probably the best response of any aboriginal population in the world by a country mile. It’s better than our (non-Indigenous) response, says Professor Fiona Stanley, a long-time leader in Indigenous health, research and advocacy, and former Australian of the Year.

22.01.2022 We as a nation must come face to face with our dark and traumatic history. We must confront the impact of colonisation and begin the process of acknowledgment, recognition and healing... Anyone who has listened to me talk publicly knows that I am concerned with what I call ‘unfinished business’. A Treaty is a good place to start with addressing this unfinished business. Mick Dodson, NT Treaty Commissioner. Mick Dodson is a Yawuru man from the Broome area of Western Aus...tralia. He was the first Indigenous Australian to receive a law degree following his studies at Monash University in Melbourne. A great respected First Nations leader, Dodson has served in a wide range of challenging roles and is a longstanding advocate for social justice. He’s also a part of the National Treaties Summit and online events, 2020-2021. 22.01.2022 At ANTaR we passionately believe it’s Time for Treaty with First Nations Peoples in Australia and are dedicated to building momentum for Treaty and agreement-making through our advocacy and campaign work. Our focus is inspired by the calls to action for Voice, Treaty, and Truth in the Uluru Statement from the Heart, and because Treaty is a big part of our ‘unfinished business’ as a nation. Australia is one of the only countries that has so far failed to enter into an ag...reement or Treaty with its First Nations Peoples. ’Unfinished business’ is the remaining journey towards reconciliation between First Nations Peoples and non-Indigenous Australians. Treaty is a vehicle that will drive us towards truth-telling, reparations and a broader negotiated settlement between the First Nations Peoples and the many peoples that have come to this place since 1788. 22.01.2022 Congrats Meyne Wyatt! I think it’s pretty incredible that I have been the first Indigenous artist because I think there’s a lot of artists that have come before over that 99 years, but I suppose our art and culture has been here for over 60,000 years. This is just a little speck,

21.01.2022 "It's based on the cultural seed of the First Nation people and that's pretty much the essence of how we've created it,"

21.01.2022 "The potential is limitless, really,"

21.01.2022 "I want us to make sure that we're showing every state and territory that by listening to Aboriginal people and putting Aboriginal health and Aboriginal issues into the hands of Aboriginal people, resolutions can be gained, outcomes can be achieved,"

19.01.2022 "Fire is a rebirthing thing for us, it brings the land back to life."

19.01.2022 This is about protecting and looking after the best interests of Aboriginal children no matter where they live in this country and ensuring their rights are protected, And I think it’s critical that we have an independent umpire that basically says, ‘this is not good enough’.

18.01.2022 I understand and support Mr Thomas’s right to benefit from his intellectual knowledge and contribution... While he has a right to do so, I have a right to not use and contribute to some white bloke who is going to benefit from our flag." Mick Gooda Check out ANTaR's statement to the Senate Select Committee on the Aboriginal Flag here: https://antar.org.au/news/free-flag

18.01.2022 Here comes the Law and Order campaigning ramp up before the election... :-( Plus 2000+ more cops in QLD? https://www.brisbanetimes.com.au//palaszczuk-pledges-histo

18.01.2022 'The British government opted to sign a treaty with Maori chiefs the famous Treaty of Waitangi in 1840. So, why were Indigenous Australians not offered a similar treaty or treaties by the British government in 1788? Bain Attwood, is Professor of History at Monash University and has explored these questions and many more in his latest book, Empire And The Making of Native Title: Sovereignty, Property and Indigenous People.'

18.01.2022 "However, I think that Fortescue needs to look closely at the reaction of Australians to what Rio did and how it has subsequently behaved, and be very, very careful."

18.01.2022 We see a large part of our job as to educate people as to how vibrant and contemporary the industry now is. Many people walk into the gallery expecting to see images of brown goannas with traditional iconography, sure there will always be a place for that, but the reality is so much of the work that is now being produced sees some of the most sophisticated use of colour from any contemporary artist working today.

18.01.2022 'The blasting of an historical Aboriginal site at Juukan Gorge in Western Australia earlier this year has sparked furious debate over how well important cultural sites are protected. Under the existing WA Aboriginal Heritage Act, Rio Tinto had approval to destroy the caves as part of a mine expansion. Draft legislation now out for community consultation, aims to improve protections for such sites and give Aboriginal people the right to appeal decisions for the first time.'

17.01.2022 Our people are dying in custody every few weeks this is a national emergency and we demand urgent national leadership,

17.01.2022 "What's happening is that with all the grog coming in, it places the community at risk,"

17.01.2022 Victorian Senator and Gunnai-Gunditjmara woman Lidia Thorpe @lidiathorpegunnaigunditj has said Australia’s failures towards First Nations Peoples have become entrenched through decades of inaction, and vowed to ‘right these wrongs’. If we’re to right these wrongs we need to fix the system that means ending deaths in custody and the mass incarceration of First Nations Peoples, righting the wrongs of the past and moving forward through Treaty, and reversing the entrenche...d economic inequality that this pandemic has highlighted. Senator Thorpe has also said the #BlackLivesMatter movement has empowered communities around the world to demand justice for First Nations Peoples and people of colour. 15.01.2022 "You'll see a lot of whale tail in Yolngu imagery. It's an integral part of the NT's Aboriginal history."

15.01.2022 ANTaR is a proud member of END RHD Campaign to defeat rheumatic heart disease in Australia and its outsized impact on First Nations communities... "It's unacceptable and it's shameful that one of the richest countries in the world has a disease that for the rest of the world is a disease of poverty and of developing countries," Telethon Kids Institute director Jonathan Carapetis

15.01.2022 We need Justice Reinvestment in NSW! ... data shows 13 per cent of strip searches are undertaken on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, a demographic that makes up only 3 percent of the state's population.

15.01.2022 'Mining giant BHP has conceded it submitted an application to destroy Aboriginal heritage sites at its $5 billion South Flank iron ore project in the Pilbara, despite opposition from local traditional owners.'

14.01.2022 'There's some good news from a survey of young Indigenous people - about half have reported feeling happy and optimistic. But sadly that's where the good news ends. Thirty percent had been homeless and almost 20 percent reported high levels of concern about domestic violence and racism.'

14.01.2022 "When you read some of the material, it has unfortunate resonance of the Stolen Generations and we have to be careful that this country does not repeat the errors of the past."

14.01.2022 'Mutti Mutti songwriter Kutcha Edwards explains why work at the Coroners Court of Victoria to enshrine Aboriginal culture in its practices is so valuable to communities across the state.'

13.01.2022 "He wanted there so much to be respect for Aboriginal ways of doing things and Aboriginal ways of the world."

12.01.2022 We can’t keep doing things in the same way. We really do need to have innovation around how we can, not just think about things differently, but make them happen on the ground in a different way.

12.01.2022 'The reason why I like to do the things I do is because I don't want to make Aboriginal people invisible anymore. I think there's some worth in my voice. I think there's some worth in my voice.'

12.01.2022 "It was sleeping, just waiting for someone to revive it,"

10.01.2022 Congratulations Vincent Namatjira, great-grandson of acclaimed artist Albert Namatjira, on becoming the first Indigenous Australian to win the Archibald Prize in its 99-year history.

09.01.2022 "It's a very good force for the whole country and for WA, but when you bring it up against Aboriginal people and Aboriginal culture you guys know as well as I know who is going to come out on top."

08.01.2022 "You know being with the mob, being with everyone, being with my brothers and sisters ... they help me have that connection that I don't have at home."

08.01.2022 '...showcasing young Indigenous leaders looks at soccer goalkeeper Lydia Williams, who represented Australia at four world cup tournaments. And a warning to Indigenous viewers, this story contains images of the deceased.'

07.01.2022 Many people ask ‘so, what is Treaty anyway?’ Well, Treaty is an agreement. Treaty is a legally binding settlement involving two or more parties, nations, groups, organisations or interests. Treaty is reached after a process of negotiation and not merely consultation it can’t be imposed! Consultation can be a one-way process. Negotiation must involve parties coming to the table as equals, working towards a mutually beneficial resolution. ... We are at a point in 2020 when there is enough information out there and it's on non-Indigenous people to start learning about it. Aboriginal people have been putting themselves out there for a long time now and we’ve been on the front foot with it. It is now up to citizens of Australia to get out there and learn. Jamie Lowe is a Gunditjmara Djabwurrung man and CEO of the @nationalnativetitlecouncil , a national peak body set up to maximise the contribution of native title to achieving and improving the economic, social and cultural participation of Indigenous Australians. Jamie was recently elected to the executive of @firstpeoplesvic [First Peoples' Assembly of Victoria] as Victorian Aboriginal Peoples move towards Treaty. He’s also a part of the National Treaties Summit and online events, 2020-2021.
