Bonalbo is a tiny town tucked into the foothills of the Great Dividing Range, and its name is the Indigenous Gidabal word for bloodwood trees bunawalbu. There in the middle of the bush stands the old Memorial Hall, with it's curious mock Art Deco facade, the gathering point, past and present of the community. A portrait of the Queen (ERII) gazes across the floorboards, privy to the meetings and celebrations the hall has hosted. The annual Bull Ball, run in conjunction with Casino Beef Week acknowledges the historic cattle industry of the town Bonalbo is known for raising prized bulls and one young local lass is elected Queen for a night, to preside over the hall and the gathering, like the lady on the wall.
