23.01.2022 The Raven sculpture was cast in bronze this week and now Im working the surface, retouching welds and imperfections.
21.01.2022 This is the fibre glass and rubber mould made of the Icarus sculpture and the hollow wax model that I cast from it. The wax model was then taken to the bronze foundry to be cast in bronze.
20.01.2022 I made two new outdoor sculptures "Horse Flyer" & "Dancer" to go into a brand new sculpture court yard/gallery in Piper Street in Kyneton. The Cusack Gallery has its official opening this Saturday at 4pm.
19.01.2022 I recently started work on a new Raven sculpture in wax/bronze after working in copper and brass for several months. Its really good getting back to modelling in wax. It relaxes me like nothing else does.
18.01.2022 I made a set of door handles for the Lake House in Daylesford. As it wasn't artichoke season I couldn't just make a mould of real chokes so I had to sculpt them myself, but i think they turned out really well.
17.01.2022 This is the mould making process of the Raven sculpture
17.01.2022 I had a lot of fun making this little sculpture. I had no real plan in mind or drawing, but I just let it happen as it wanted to.
16.01.2022 I used bamboo skewers like bones to support the wax and just built each leg one muscle at a time, from the feet up. I designed and cut the wings in cardboard and added wax to thicken them. I gave my Icurus a sensible birds head crash helmet and a set of vintage looking roller skates to give a sense of speed or motion to the sculpture.
15.01.2022 Im just finishing off my larger sculpture of "Icarus" which is 64 cm in hight and has a wing span of 120cm and stands on a basalt stone slab.
14.01.2022 I added the patina to the Raven and buffed it up to a shine
13.01.2022 I made this clay portrait recently and fired it in my kiln at home. I brushed it with with wax while it was still warm which gave it a darker patina and then I added a bit of colour with pencil. Not a bad attempt I think.
13.01.2022 This video shows the fibreglass mould and the hollow wax model cast from it.
10.01.2022 Its the end of the line for these two sculptures as I recently made the last edition of the Owl and Stag sculpture. The stag mould is in storage but the owl mould has been destroyed because it was so worn out. I am working on a scaled up enlargement of the stag sculpture at the moment, one that could go outside.
09.01.2022 I changed the stone pedestal on this sculpture today. Better I think.
07.01.2022 I just finished this quirky little commission, a Minotaur door handle for a grand house in Hawthorn. I really enjoyed sculpting it although making the mould was a real challenge, the end result was good I thought. Visitors can rub its head for luck :-)
07.01.2022 I fired my Kiln this week as week as well, and all the sculptures survived !! This was my third attempt , mistakes were made and I lost a few clay sculptures along the way, but im starting to understand starting slow is better.
07.01.2022 "Swallow In Flight" is my sculpture at the Hanging rock Winery sculpture exhibition. Bronze on Basalt Stone
06.01.2022 This sculpture is near finished just needs some tidying up, but it was so eager to be made it took me less than a week. Now comes the hard part of making a mould with rubber and plaster.
06.01.2022 The "Icarus" sculpture
06.01.2022 Just installed, it took me nearly three hours to install and get them level.
05.01.2022 A humpback whale door handle still in wax. After this I make a rubber and plaster mould of the design and cast it in bronze.
05.01.2022 This is something new that ive been working on; a new sculpture in the Mythology series haveing made the Minotaur and recently the Icarus. This guy is a Cervitaur which is half man half deer/stag. I'm giving this one a helmet made of a stage skull and he holds a speer so maybe he hunts stags for food.
04.01.2022 Last lot of photos for now. Two terracotta cat heads, buffed to nice shine with white wax and glued to black slate.
03.01.2022 One of my new clay sculptures is a portrait. I added a little pencil colour to it then waxed the surface and buffed it up.
03.01.2022 Im working on a 2x enlargment of the "Icarus" sculpture.
03.01.2022 I'm on a roll today so I might as well add these photos as well. This Fox head is terracotta with white clay slip and I coloured the eyes with pencil. I love this look, I just might do more of them
