24.01.2022 ***BUY LOCAL*** It's always important to buy local but it is even more so during these tough times, retailers are doing it hard. Don't worry too much about the national grocery seller, our small traders like our coffee shops, bakeries, cafes and fresh produce retailers are at risk of closing down permanently. I know we can't buy everything we need from our small retailers but please think about what you can and purchase from them before your main shop. Proud Chic Mega Meats on Wells Road Chelsea Heights is one of those great small retailers that has been servicing our local area for many years. If you have never been there, go and check it out, you won't be disappointed as l have been a customer for many years.

24.01.2022 My wife and l walk around Edithvale Common almost on a daily basis. To make this area more enjoyable and accessible, we think it requires more park benches around the area. It's not just a great place to walk around but it is a great place to sit and take in the serenity. What do you think?

23.01.2022 **IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED** Chelsea Heights residents are in desperate need of a pedestrian crossing on Thames Promenade adjacent to the IGA and Heights Park. I am genuinely concerned for the safety of Chelsea Heights residents attempting to cross Thames Promenade, these pictures were taken on Monday during Stage 4 lockdown and l found the road very busy, how busy will it be when everything is back to normal. This crossing was promised two years ago by the City of Kingston ...after campaigning by the residents and the Hon Tim Richardson MP and it is still not built. This only reaffirms what Chelsea Heights residents have been telling me that, "They have been forgotten about by the Council". I live in the ward, if elected l will be your voice and l will work hard to get this crossing built. *Tim Richardson photo used with permission, courtesy of Tim's Facebook page. See more

22.01.2022 Hi Everyone, The local election campaign has been in full swing for a few weeks now and a lot of candidates have come forward to put their hands up wanting to be our representatives on Council, with me being one of them. However we will not be sure who all the candidates are until after the official close of nominations on 22 September. What you will see from the mix are different styles in how we campaign. l will say that all of the candidates in Sandpiper Ward have campaign...ed fairly so far, as far as l can tell there has been no negativity from candidates directed at other candidates. Unfortunately this can't be said for candidates in other wards, whose campaign styles are based on negativity and attacking other candidates even in the wards they are not running in. Negative politics is old fashioned, a style from a bygone era that has no place in today's modern society. The men and women who are standing in these elections are NOT professional politicians who are paid the big bucks to have broad shoulders; the candidates are made up of men and women, mums and dads, grandparents and young people wanting to help their community and see if they can make a difference. After all why else would you do it? There's no money in it and frankly some of the attacks hurt and some candidates may reconsider their candidacy. Please leave a comment and let me know your thoughts about this. Do you respond to negative politics? Do you think it is a free-for-all and anything goes (within the law)? See more

21.01.2022 I have lived in Edithvale with my wife Sue and children Chris and Tim for 30 years, my family and l love living here, the city has so much to offer with the jewel in the crown being Edithvale beach, one of the best beaches in Melbourne. I have served the community in many ways from serving on the Edithvale Primary School Council for eight years, Chelsea Little Athletics for 10 years, Chelsea State Emergency Service (SES) for seven years and Edithvale Fire Brigade for nearly 12 years, really serving the community in their time of need. This election Kingston has been divided into 11 new wards, Sandpiper Ward takes in the suburbs of Edithvale, Chelsea Heights and half of Aspendale Gardens and l would be honoured to serve the community further as your Councillor for Sandpiper Ward.

19.01.2022 The City of Greater Dandenong has to stop being the dumping ground of the South East. The residents of Greater Dandenong and surrounds which includes Kingston should not be subject to this kind of industry so close to the Green Wedge and waterways such as Dandenong Creek.

18.01.2022 Get to know your Brigade. Over the coming weeks, we're profiling some of our volunteers. We're a diverse bunch, but what unites us is working together to... serve the community in which we live. This week, Firefighter Anthony Davis How long have you been a member of the brigade and what prompted you to join? I joined the brigade about 13 years ago with my eldest son Chris. I joined the CFA because I wanted to help the community and make a meaningful contribution in an emergency service role. What is your role within the brigade? I am a firefighter and I assist with training when required. What’s been the best thing about being a CFA volunteer? What keeps you volunteering? It is the feeling of self-fulfillment and knowing that I am making a difference in people's lives at the time they need it most. The training I have received gives me confidence and brings out the best in me given that I am highly trained and able to assist where others are not able. I keep volunteering as I feel I still have plenty to offer the community, even as I get older there are still roles that I can perform within the brigade. What’s your most memorable moment from being a part of Edithvale Fire Brigade? My most memorable moment was about a week after completing my Breathing Apparatus (BA) qualification. I attended a going house fire and I was in the primary search crew, it was no longer training and it was the real thing so my heart was pumping a bit, I was with a very experienced partner and I had plenty of confidence. No one was home, we saved the dog but lost the budgies. What’s your occupation outside of EFB? I only work casually now as a fire and safety trainer, I am able to do this through the skills I have obtained from the CFA, I go out to factories/offices, Aged care, preschools/schools etc and teach fire extinguisher, warden, evacuation, first aid, working at heights and confined space. Are you involved in any other community groups or have any other interests/hobbies.? I love to go fishing when I can either by myself or with mates, I am a member of the Frankston Gun Club (FACTC) and shoot clay targets, I have been a shooter since I was old enough to hold a junior permit. I am also politically active and a member of the Mentone Branch of the ALP, so come election times you may see me out and about letterboxing, street stalling and handing out how to vote cards at the booths.

11.01.2022 **R U OK** Today is R U OK Day and brings attention to a question we should be asking on a regular basis. I saw a report that Lifeline had its busiest day in history with well over 3,000 calls in one day, it averaged out to be one call every 30 seconds. Some people are doing it really tough from the isolation and the prospect of their livelihoods failing, there are many small business owners who are scared and unsure about their futures. One positive thing about this pandemic... is we are out walking more and reconnecting with our neighbours and suburb because beforehand we were all too busy working. We are so lucky here in Kingston where we have access to beach and parkland walks to help clear our minds. Reach out to friends and family and ask them R U OK and REALLY listen to their answer. If you need assistance please contact one of the organisations below. https://www.beyondblue.org.au/ https://www.lifeline.org.au/ https://www.kingston.vic.gov.au//Support-an/Crisis-Support See more

11.01.2022 **URGENT ACTION REQUIRED** Hello everyone, this is the footpath along Edithvale Road Edithvale and as you can see it is flooded making it very difficult for pedestrians. This has been an ongoing issue for many years. Pedestrians and motorists are being put in danger because people are being forced to walk on busy Edithvale Road to get past (in the background you can see a man crossing the road to avoid the water). I have raised this issue with Council through Deputy Mayor St...eve Staikos, for Council to take urgent action. Although this is a VicRoads assett Cr Staikos arranged for Council officers to attend and make an assessment. It was found that silt coming from the Wetlands washing over the footpath contributes to the flooding so it has been arranged to have the footpath swepted and to be put on the regular sweeping roster. In addition the footpath has been found to be in good condition and therefore the low area is going to recieve an overlay of asphalt to build it up above the water level. A longer term solution is to build an elevated wooden boardwalk protected by a barrier. This work has been estimated at around $1,100,000 and has been classed as a 'Shovel Ready' project as soon as funding can be provided from the State Government. Council has also come up with other permanent solutions and put them to Vicroads but they find this issue to be of low priority (public safety to be a low priority!). The good news is that our Council does see the issue of public safety being of paramount importance and are taking action, l would like to thank Cr Steve Staikos for his assistance and Michael Pearce for bringing this dangerous issue to my attention so l could raise it. We need to lobby the State Government for the funds to build the boardwalk for the safety of the residents of Kingston.

08.01.2022 Today is National Police Remembrance Day, we give thanks to all Victoria Police for their service and remember those who are no longer with us. It’s been a challenging year for Police with the deaths of four Officers and COVID-19, you can watch the service on-line at 10am.

07.01.2022 It's official, l am on the nomination list. Nominations close at midday today so others may make a late charge. You can check on who has nominated in Sandpiper by clicking the link. https://www.vec.vic.gov.au//kingston-city-cou/nominations

05.01.2022 I have been helping to protect the people of Kingston and Victoria for approximately 18 years as a volunteer. Prior to my 11 years at Edithvale Fire Brigade l spent seven years at the Chelsea State Emergency Service under the leadership of local legend Ron Fitch. I am still a member of the Edithvale Fire Brigade whose members l am in awe of as they do a fantastic job under difficult circumstances, which have been made even harder with COVID-19 and Stage 4 lockdown. I will co...ntinue to serve and protect the people of Kingston as a volunteer at the Edithvale Fire Brigade but l want to also serve as your representative in Sandpiper Ward on the City of Kingston Council. I have been living in Edithvale with my family for 30 years, my sons went to local schools and were members of many local sporting clubs. I will be your strong voice on Council; l care about safety, open spaces and inclusive sporting clubs. Kingston is a great place to live and to make it even better I want Council to spend money in the local community; upgrading parks, footpaths, roads, hard waste removal, safety and sporting facilities. When you receive your ballot paper in the mail, 'Vote 1' for me, Anthony Davis in Sandpiper Ward. See more

04.01.2022 **Playgrounds Open from Today** Mums and dads rejoice as the government allows playgrounds to open to be enjoyed by families. It was a beautiful day to enjoy Kingston's parks.

03.01.2022 How good is this new park in Lochiel Ave Edithvale! There has been a park on this site for more than 30 years, my wife and l used to bring our two sons here. In those days it was a fairly simple park with swings and a slide. Now it has a beautiful landscaped garden, an adventure play area, swings, slide, a drinking fountain and a working water pump. l look forward to when stage 4 restrictions are lifted so you can bring your children to this beautiful new park. Thank you City of Kingston. Do you know of any other parks that need a refurbishment? Name them here and post a photo.

02.01.2022 Today, l have officially nominated for the ward of Sandpiper. It would be humbling, an honour and a privilege to be elected your representative on Council, a true local working for locals.

02.01.2022 After being informed by residents that this unsafe section of footpath was forcing pedestrians out onto edithvale Road due to flooding, l contacted Council and stated urgent action was required to fix this issue. The issue still isn't fixed but this temporary measure has now made it safe. Whenever you see something unsafe call it out and contact Council in the first instance, if you don't get satisfaction contact your local representative who will follow up.

02.01.2022 This is Heights Park on Thames Promenade Chelsea Heights. Chelsea Heights reseidents have told me this park is in desperate need of an upgrade, so l thought l should have a look and l am shocked at what l found. Firstly the positive, it's a huge area with great potential and the grass was well kept, thats it. The negatives are; the play equipement is outdated, the timber bridge is rotting, the timber railing around the native vegetation has exposed nails, the single picnic ta...ble is bent and rusted, there are no toilets, there is a paved half moon area that seems to have no purpose and there is a tennis or handball wall which also seems outdated. This park needs, new play equipement, picnic tables, pavilions, toilets, BBQ's, new timber work and possibly much more, it's a huge area that could be so family friendly. If elected l will work hard you to this park upgraded.
