25.01.2022 Meat? It’s the healthiest thing you are eating. Along with eggs, fish, nuts/seeds and dairy.... You haven’t been eating much have you? But your weight is still going up? You still feel like crap? Your cholesterol is still ‘too high’? Stop being a sheep. Stop listening to these vegan entrepreneurs. They want your money. They don’t care about your health nor the environment. Red meat intake has been falling for the last 50 years. And the planet? Your waistline? Oh... It’s not the meat. Please. It’s all the other stuff you are doing that is making you sick and fat. Alcohol, cereal, bread, sushi, chips, potato, rice, pasta and snacks. Eat meat, fish etc with non-starch veggies and no carbs. Get smart. Get knowledgeable or get and stay sick.

24.01.2022 Very frustrating when personal trainers pushing calories, silly tests and over-priced supplements are called out.... Then they block me and carry on taking money out of your pocket. As soon as PT’s start talking calories, pre/post workout shakes and that you ‘need carbs’? Smile and keep walking



24.01.2022 My gut diet? If I could put out my own ‘fix your gut’ diet? Stop all bread and fruit for a week.... I’d almost guarantee you’d be 50% better. You’ll also lose a couple of kilograms. Then I’d make a couple of very minor adjustments from there. No smoothie, no expensive tests nor supplements needed. No kefir, kombucha or bone broth needed SIBO and FODMAPS? Flawed and overly complex. Constipation, diverticulitis etc can also be overcome. So please don’t buy another gut book, fibre supplement or gut test. Remove, don’t add. Lets talk.

24.01.2022 Breakfast? No. Breakfast was a couple of coffees with a dash of cream.... This will be my first ‘meal’ of the day about 10am. It’s packed with fuel that will get me through until a late lunch at maybe 3pm. Protein, fat, fibre, minerals and vitamins. This is ‘fuel’ to get you through the day, that will level off those hunger peaks and troughs. Cereal? Toast? Nope. That’s rocket fuel...roller coaster fuel. Boom and bust fuel that will keep you hungry, irritable, sore, bloated and fat. Unlearn those toxic marketing myths if you want to get better.

24.01.2022 I'm biased of course. How damaged, inflamed or deficient we are will manifest as physical pain. To reduce or prevent any manifestation?... Please start by changing what you 'fuel' your body with. Your body actually wants less not more food. And please be aware of manual therapists who load you up with tests and supplements. 24.01.2022 Reminding myself how lucky I am that I can take a break and that I do have a job that I love. Fantastic to be back on the bike for the first time in ages to see views like these. Now I just need a coffee to fuel me home.

24.01.2022 For 2021? Do it differently? Jog slowly or walk fast for mental health, to get ‘up and out’, to chat to a friend, to listen to the birds, engage with your community, to meet your barista or get some sun.... Please don’t. Don’t run/hammer yourself to lose weight. It will make you hungry and sore. Just like eating bacon, butter, bone broth, cream, kombucha, fibre and water won’t ‘burn’ fat. Make dietary changes and habit changes first. Then. Start doing some work to build muscle like squats, hill sprints, lunges, pushups, skipping etc. Exercising to lose fat, is one of the most damaging and heartbreaking myths ever. So for 2021? Make a clean break from this myth. Then? Expect and get a different result.

23.01.2022 To get better? Stop thinking about Trump. Stop yourself being bullied into worrying about your ‘high cholesterol’.... Your doctor doesn’t understand 2 things. Our body makes 6 eggs worth of cholesterol every day. Yes. Every day. The organ that excretes and regulates cholesterol? Your liver. And it is crammed full of fat, inflammation and is dysfunctional. Why? It is turning all those carbohydrates you are eating into fat and storing them in your liver and gut. Like a clogged pool filter. The liver starts to regurgitate fat and cholesterol back into your system. So stop with the mountain of bread, rice, fruit, snacks, alcohol, cereal etc every day. To do this? You’ll need to find happiness, contentment in your life that doesn’t involve eating and drinking. Stop subbing your health out to your doctor re cholesterol. By reading the above, you know more than them. Stop blaming their ignorance for tough decisions only you can make. Once known, you can’t unlearn. Over to you. You are the doctor of you. Start doctoring yourself.



23.01.2022 I’m always hungry Anthony. My gut issues got a little better, but they are back. I’m losing muscle.... I’m putting on weight! My cholesterol is actually going up. I’m still always tired. But.... My poos smell better. Red meat isn’t the enemy. Neither for your body nor the environment. I hear this from many patients. Don’t fall for the vegetarian/vegan myth. I eat legumes and veggies but I also eat meat, eggs, and seafood. Let’s talk?

23.01.2022 Sorry. It’s not negotiable. I can’t help you.... I can’t convince you that Santa and the Easter bunny will both walk around that corner arm in arm. If you still think your cholesterol is ‘too high’ or ‘bad’ then this will prevent you from ‘getting better’. Every cell in your body produces cholesterol. We make 3 eggs of the stuff every day! It’s like you being afraid of cars on the road so you walk everywhere. You need to become aware of those cars that are driving too fast or erratically. I know which figures on your blood tests show you have ‘erratic cholesterol’ coursing through your bloodstream. It has nothing to do with total cholesterol of even ‘high bad cholesterol’. It has nothing to do with you eating meat, full-fat dairy or eggs. We have lowered cholesterol in millions of patients, but heart disease is going up (in younger people)! Please realise that there is no ‘cholesterol rabbit’ in the magician’ (doctors) top hat. Until we get smarter about this, your chances of losing weight, taking back your own health and getting better are slight. If we keep giving away our health knowledge to those who have less knowledge than ourselves? Be prepared to wear out a great deal of shoe leather.

21.01.2022 Now this is something to share with some you know or love who has Arthritis. Its happening to all my friends - its just a natural part of getting old. I hear this constantly from my older patients talking about their arthritis or other aches and pains they have. Yes, we do age, but we can slow the damage to our joints and aid the bodys ability to repair.... The body will do all it can to help you repair. 21.01.2022 You’re not.... You’re not ‘eating well’. It’s what most patients say when they first come to see me.... ‘....I’m eating well....I don’t know why I feel so bad....’ Learn to unlearn. Unlearning is much harder than learning something new. You are eating the way the ‘diet dinosaurs’ told you eat. They are so lost and you have followed their ‘eating map’. Now you are lost too. Let me guess. You are drinking heaps of water, fruit, whole meal? You are doing as much exercise as you can? Gone plant-based? Cut back on red meat? Done yet another ‘gut diet’? And you still feel sick and fat? Your cholesterol, blood pressure, fat around your middle, fatigue, pain, bloating, and menopausal symptoms keeps getting worse? Until you realise you are reading from an incorrect dietary map? It’s was like voting for Trump in 2016 and hoping for a kind, respectful government. Rule one for getting better? 21.01.2022 What no dietitian nor gastroenterologist , endocrinologist nor GP ever wants to admit. Weetbix and table sugar? Become glucose in your body at the same time.... In the long-run, they will worsen your bowel symptoms, fatty liver, blood pressure and diabetes. Yep, they will also make you fatter. Weetbix and bread will worsen your cholesterol. They will worsen your heart disease, dementia-risk, bloating, relic, gout, aches and pains. Ah yep. Bread is the same. Even whole meal. And you thought you quit sugar? Painful but true. Now you know the truth? Stop eating sugar.

20.01.2022 Too early? Too early to talk about poo? One of my patients yesterday who had ‘gone vegan’ said that his poos ‘smelt heaps better’.... He hadn’t come to see me to tell me this. He was putting on weight, had IBS-like gut symptoms, his cholesterol has gone up and he was ‘always hungry’. But.... He felt like sh*t, but his poo smelt better. We are a funny lot aren’t we. When I put you on a lower carbohydrate, higher animal protein diet, it may take months for your bowel habits to settle. Yes, this includes smell. I’m sure it’s a vegan-selling point, ‘you’ll feel like crap but your crap will smell better’. Me? I totally turned my health around, cured my IBS, migraines, cravings, and lost 15kg by kicking carbohydrates. I eat red meat every day, along with eggs, fish, dairy etc. I feel like a kid again (I’m 52yo). Does my sh*t stink? Seriously? We are a funny lot.....

20.01.2022 My one piece of advice? To get you ready for you doing the work,and ‘owning your own health’ in 2021? These foods will not get you better.... They are not ‘health foods’, healthier foods or foods that will make you healthier. What your body wants? (especially your liver that rules your brain’s and heart’s health) What your body wants you to do to ‘get better’? To take a break from eating. To eat 2 to 3 quality meals daily with animal protein. To stop eating potato, bread, rice, cereal, fruit etc. This is ‘sprint’, fast-burning and foods that will leave you fat, sore, tired and always hungry. To not eat between those meals. To stop buying supplements. I estimate 50% of practitioners would go out of business if they couldn’t sell supplements or so-called ‘health foods’. I think this would be a good thing?? Take a break from alcohol for a few months. But. To make these changes? You will have to find a replacement for guilt, sadness, regret, anger, anxiety/depression, loneliness etc. Think a hobby, a change, walking, yoga, tai chi, meditation, choir, music, language, volunteering, sport, exercise. Oh. And build muscle. Get strong. Work on just doing one push up, one lunge/squat, one chin-up. Start! Just start working on it. Stop buying ‘health foods’ and supplements and get healthy by doing the more simpler/foundational things. Yes. They are the more challenging, difficult changes to make. 20.01.2022 Careful. Most chocolates are the ‘worst of both worlds’. They aren’t just v high carbohydrate, they are also high fat.... Your liver, pancreas and body hates this combo. It can’t juggle them together. It leads over time to elevated cholesterol, fatty liver, weight gain, cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, dementia, and inflammation. It’s why junk food is so toxic-it’s a high comb of fat and carb (most junk food is much higher in carbs than fat despite what those ‘experts’ tell us ) Look at this chilli chocolate-almost 50% sugar. It is a classic junk food. You may as pour petrol into your arteries and light them up. It’s stuff like this over years leads to cancer, heart disease and our bodies breaking down. Yep. Sea salt , milk or orange chocolate is just as petrol-like. My 91% chocolate is only 13% carb. It’s also high fat. If I eat too much? It will make me fat (like too much bacon, butter, nuts and cheese). Treat these foods with respect. Don’t listen to these keto ‘wellness warriors’. Yes-you can eat too much fat! Fat isn’t a ‘free food’. I hope you didn’t choke on your chilli chocolate. At least you now know why you can’t lose weight, reduce your cholesterol or blood pressure

So why do we eat and drink everything in front of us? Find something that makes you happy apart from eating, drinking and buying stuff?

Also helping patients with food myths made me happy. Just that look of ‘....and I thought that food was good for me...’ I also had my first guitar lesson in 30 years. Realising what makes you happy takes time, patience and a little solitude?

15.01.2022 Monday already! How was the weekend eating? Oh god, don’t ask?... If you’re a bit more of an advanced low-carber, fasting really comes in handy at this time of year. If you need a hand now or in January, just book in and we can chat. Take a long-term view. The genesis of that fat around your belly may have been decades in the making so a 6-week fastblaster challenge? Nope. It’s not going to do it for you. It will just add to the yo-yo frustration.

15.01.2022 Both sides need to skewered! The dietary dinosaurs (the old experts that need to be put out to to pasture) And the wellness warriors who want to fill their own pockets.... A great, exhausting week with brilliant patients. The worst I saw? Patients being loading up with overpriced fermented potions, supplements and tests, when they need to understand more about their diet and how they got so lost. Also some patients being charged triple the going rate for things like iron-infusions and overpriced USA supplements and gut tests. This makes my blood boil. Then the dinosaurs. Loading patients up on fruit and fibre and their gut/weight/cholesterol worsens and they are told they arent working hard enough. They are also told that eating fat has caused their fatty liver. Madness. Then they are put on the FodMaps diet (the most complex mess Ive ever seen). Please. No more supplements. No more gut tests. No more fermented potions. Stop. Understand what you need to remove/modify in your diet for the long-term. Sit down with me and Ill help you draw a line in the sand and change once and for all. Have a great weekend

15.01.2022 What do you think about that Mr Ed? About what? Eat in moderation.... Watch your portions. Count your calories? Count your ketones? Smart carbs, Slow carbs? Are you really asking me? Why wouldnt I ask you? Im a horse? Well I think you are smarter than most dietary experts. You are a talking horse so that does carry weight Mr Ed? Ok. Do you really want to know? I think the horse has bolted. Really? Yep. Can you tap your belly, your liver (upper right) and bum? See/feel that fat jammed in there? Thats not going to magically go away with silly worlds like eat in moderation, portion control, eat more fruit, veggies , fibre and just exercise/moving more. We need to coax that inflammatory gunk (fat) out of you by being smart about it. Smart? See, I told you you were smart. The fat is already there. The horse has bolted. So how do we get rid of the fat. Well first, stop listening to all those experts as this fat hasnt budged in 30 years. Good idea. Then? Lets be smart about this. Lets be lateral. Lets look at this from a science-based, modern angle that works? Its a deal. So to get me back in the stables. No more talk about more fibre, moderation, portions, smart carbs, carb counting, keto counting or going keto? Promise? Its a deal. Ask that nutritionist bloke about it. He knows what hes talking about. And be positive. Dont think its too hard, Ive tried everything, Ive been let down by experts. Be positive, that you can finally pull that fat out once and for all. 14.01.2022 I’ve read it all. I’ve laughed. I’ve cried.... I’ve got so angry. I mean really angry. I’ve also understood. Understood those mistakes made decades ago. I’ve read about the impact of Seventh Day Adventists on why we demonise meat, eggs and coffee and praise cereals and bread. I am incredulous as to the conflict of interest and self-serving by those ‘media/academic dietitians’, diabetes and heart ‘health’ organisations and universities. I’ve been amazed of the fibre hypothesis and continually shake my head about trying to pour yet more fibre through an inflamed and constricted bowel. And cholesterol. Our body make 6 eggs worth a day-but it is fragile and easily damaged. Its damaged by all those carbohydrates we eat. And the fact that we think we can ‘move more’ and get ‘unfat’. The first rule of nutrition? It is a dog’s breakfast. Anyone who keeps eating of promoting this way of eating? When 80% of us are overweight and obese? And more that 200 Aussies daily are being diagnosed with diabetes and dementia? (yes, daily). Unlearn to learn. If you can’t unlearn? Then keep enjoying that dog’s brekky.

14.01.2022 It’s like coming to terms that Santa doesn’t really exist. Our dietary guidelines are a myth. I’ve read them.... Almost every reference used? Is from Kellogg’s, Nestle etc. Don’t get mad or frustrated. I tried that and it is wasted energy. Start today by realising that there is a new dietary road. A modern, science-based one. Unless you throw the old mythical diet map away? You’ll remain sick, fat, lost and frustrated. We also need to name and shame those dietitians and academics who wrote the 2013 guidelines and who continue to prop it up to save face (to the detriment of the Australian public). Moving more won’t get you better. Counting calories doesn’t work. The body doesn’t need extra fibre and carbohydrates to survive. Fat isn’t bad. Animal fats are actually good/safe/stable fats. The plant-based diet is a myth. Science and religious beliefs should be seperate. Cholesterol is fragile, not ‘bad’ and protein doesn’t ‘ruin kidneys’. If you can’t move on? Sorry, I can’t help you. I need to start re-educating you about the ‘modern/non-mythical’ way to ‘get better’. I can’t keep telling you over and over that Santa doesn’t exist. Yep. 13.01.2022 Looking for Christmas decorations and Christmas-themed things? I was in at my local St Vincent de Paul op shop yesterday and they had stacks. A good way to give back, support charity and not add to land fill etc?... Also, volunteering can really help with stress levels and can empower. All these charities are looking for helpers for just a few hours a week to help and sort. A nice way to connect with other locals on your communities? Just call them direct and offer your time. You will feel great for doing it and they’ll love you for it.

13.01.2022 Want to lose it? Can you tap your belly or bum? Want to empty out that fat that has been there for decades?... Moving more won’t do it (building muscle will certainly help). Eating more fibre, fermented food and drinking water won’t do it. Finding something to make you happy (other than food and alcohol will absolutely help). The best thing? Start working towards not eating for a day. Seriously? It is one of the most liberating things to do. It is the most efficient way to lose fat forever. But you need to work on it-like anything. Practice delaying your first meal until after 10am and then not eating after dinner. Then you need to incorporate this ‘taking a break from food’ weekly until you can no longer tap that belly fat. So enjoy over-eating over Christmas. Then in January, come and chat to me to get rid of that fat once and for all. Merry Christmas. Thanks for all your support during this very tough year.

Buying the Big Issue made Jamie happy, but it made me happier. Amazing what warmth, a smile, kindness, giving and receiving does. And if youre happier? Youll hopefully eat better and drink less? 12.01.2022 On a billboard I saw yesterday. It got me thinking. With work, industry and economies being disrupted so badly due to coronavirus....... Air quality and greenhouse gas emissions have fallen. And weve in the past wrongly blamed environmental change on poor old cows. Greenhouse gases from total worldwide agriculture amount to? 15% So where do the other 85% come from? Cars, transport, construction, electricity production and waste (yep, buying too much stuff). The population of cows? It hasnt budged. Please dont base your eating habits on incorrect assumptions. Eating meat and seafood is a privilege and must be respected. But we cannot blame it for the rise in poor health or the poor environment. There is a massive, growing push to eat more plant-based food. This is heavily-processed, nutrient-deficient, air-mile heavy, multinational, heavily-marketed, non-local food in packets. Just like cows are killing us and the planet? See through the spin. Otherwise? You are going to get sicker, hungrier, more diabetic and more overweight.

I felt as though I should have more idea about 2021 All I’m doing is riding my bike, eating as best I can(basically meat, eggs, fish and veggies), lifting weights, yoga, trying to stay connected and trying to stay motivated for work. A good mate said that’s enough. I/we’ve got to work on the ‘that’s enough’ scenario? Work hard on those foundational, daily rituals. Try and strip out the ballast like snacking, drinking whilst not celebrating, fruit, daily dessert, bread/cereal, and eating like a Pac-Man from Friday to Sunday night (then trying to be a saint Monday to Friday) Hang in there. 2021 is going to be better right

10.01.2022 Definitely not sexy. More like your CFO rather than the CEO in your body (yep our fickle brain is the big cheese). Your liver controls cholesterol production, metabolism and excretion.... Your liver decides if you get dementia, heart disease or cancer. So look after it. And your doctor tells you that your cholesterol is too high? And you are drinking alcohol, eating cereal, bread, snacks? All these things clog your liver. We call if fatty liver but it’s really carby liver. But there is a pill to fix it? Nope, the pill just masks the problem. It’s a bit like creative accounting. I know. To give up grog and carbs? Firstly, you have to ‘dig out’ that deep fat that has been accumulating for decades. Second? Find things that will replace those habits that are making you sick. Take the pill if you want to paper over the cracks. Of course it’s easier. I’d rather dig a bit deeper. Your life depends on it.

10.01.2022 Can you handle the truth? It really hurts. But it does set you free.... And? You get better. You lose weight. Your gut gets better. All by making one change? I remember giving up bread. (Yes, that includes wraps, crumpets, tacos, corn chips, popcorn etc) It was (and still is) one of the toughest things I have ever done. I was a bread monster. I loved the stuff. I used to eat healthy organic rye. I exercise a lot. But I could never lose weight. My gut always played up. Foggy brain.I felt so tired after meals. Now? 15kg down. No more IBS, great mind and energy. Each piece of bread. Contains 5 teaspoons equivalent of sugar. It irritates the gut, spikes then slams your blood sugar and locks fat away in your cells via insulin release. It actually kills off your good bacteria Really. Oh god. The ads? All marketing. All spin. Your gut will get worse, your liver will clog with more fat. Fibre? There is more in nuts/seeds, avocado and greens (without all the sugar). I know. You love it right? So did I. The truth hurts. Then acting on it and changing can be harder. Knowing is knowledge and knowledge allows for change. Im here to help with alternatives. Just ask. Really? And give up probably the one thing you love eating daily?

10.01.2022 Not eating for a day yesterday? It gave me great insight to my stress triggers and ways to get around them. When you do a 24-hr fast, hunger comes in waves and then goes.... It’s a bit like meditation-when those thoughts come, just move them on. Please. Fasting, like meditation needs to be practiced just like learning a new language. When I got stressed yesterday during my fast, I thought of eating and I automatically felt better. Ah. I’ll just have a few nuts, some cheese, really dark chocolate. A so-called ‘healthy snack’. When I realised I couldn’t have anything, I panicked for a split second, but then felt quite liberated. There was no grey area. The traffic light is red-so you don’t go. It gave me real insight to my own thoughts about food and gave me a good reset as I’ve been eating too many nuts, cheese etc. Work on it. After lunch until dinner? Nothing-maybe a black coffee. After dinner? Nothing. Maybe a herbal tea. Then have breakfast after 9am the next day. No more keto cookbooks, keto podcasts, keto chat rooms, expensive supplements and tests. Think traffic lights. Would you run a red light with kids crossing? Of course not. So isn’t this about your health, happiness and longevity you are trying to change? I’m handing the wheel over to you.

It’s what I try to do as an educator first and a nutritionist second.... It’s have you understand science (more biochemistry and physiology really) and not be a slave to myth and marketing. Constipation? IBS? Reflux, bloating etc? Still drinking alcohol, eating carbohydrates and carrying weight around the middle? Can I tell you what it’s not? It’s not the dairy or gluten. It’s the 98% of the other stuff you’ve been eating over 30 years that’s the issue. Please don’t be a sheep to the marketing, myth and laziness. Don’t listen to those ‘wellness warriors’ that are selling you all those highly processed ‘health foods’ and lining their pockets. It’s down to you. You are are the one that needs to eat and drink less. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you can ‘get better’ by eating so-called health foods. It’s fool’s gold. It makes internet scams look tame in comparison. And it’s legal Over the coming weeks? Stick to eggs, meat, tofu, tahini, legumes, chicken, seafood, cheese, nuts/seeds and non-starchy greens. Eat 3 meals a day. Don’t snack. Work on happiness, harmony and contentment in your life. If you aren’t working on it, your chances of kicking alcohol and carbohydrates? Your chances of getting better? V low. Build muscle. Get strong. Don’t just ‘exercise’. And celebrate Christmas! Celebrate the silly season. Celebrate the new year. Then make 2021 a science, not marketing year?

09.01.2022 Something to ask the person who’s helping you with your weight, pain, menopause, cancer, heart disease, diabetes and addiction to carbohydrates. Have you ever been in my situation? Have you?... Have you ever gone through the horrible roller coaster of trying to break a carbohydrate addiction? I have. So please don’t listen to these ‘cleanskins’ who’ve never had to lose weight, overcome a crushing carbohydrate addiction, migraines, gut issues, brain fog and fatigue. To break up with carbohydrates? Sure. Find a ‘middleman’ for a short period. Use stevia, zylitol, erythtitol, Equal chewing gum or diet soft drink whilst you break up with this toxic relationship. But.... You’ll eventually have to break up with the stop-gap relationship too. Artificial sweeteners don’t give you cancer. Unless you maybe drink gallons of the stuff daily. Smile and wave and keep walking if you hear the wellness warriors parrot this. But don’t forget. It’s a temporary relationship. For me it’s been re-learning the guitar, getting back on the bike, reading, writing, yoga, volunteering and lifting weights.... Find something, anything, that gives you a kick of dopamine, serotonin and endorphins (that doesn’t involve chewing or alcohol ) Oh. And surrounding myself with positive people who give me energy and make me laugh. And I mean really laugh. And just saying to those negative people that were can catch up later....’. Find a ‘replacement’ for poor food choices or alcohol. If you are deeply unhappy, dislocated, lonely, angry, anxious? Your chances of ‘getting better’ and losing weight? Slim. And look at the forrest and not the trees. Get harmony back in your life before thinking about food, diet change, fasting, supplements, cooking, etc. Just start thinking. Make a list right now of what makes you happy. Just start with a walk. A ride. A coffee with an old friend, a yoga session, a painting, language or singing lesson.

08.01.2022 It’s another one of those myths. We were told coffee was ‘bad for us’. But the cake, biscuits, popcorn, rice thins, fruit, smoothies, snacks?... That we eat mountains of a day? This is the reason we are fat, tired, sore and bloated. Why were we told coffee was bad? Because it’s a stimulant. The Seventh Day Adventist Church (who basically wrote our dietary guidelines) don’t do stimulants. They don’t do red meat either. But they do have a hefty financial interest in cereal and snacks (yep, they own Sanitarium Foods). Funny isn’t it that breakfast cereal and breakfast became the most important part of the day. To get better? Put science first, not religious myths.

07.01.2022 Really? So they got it wrong initially? Yep, happens all the time in medicine.... Malaria. It actually means ‘bad air’. It was thought you caught it living next to the poor air around swamps and wet areas. It made sense at the time. It’s a bit like ‘cholesterol is bad’. It’s very fragile. So understand what damages it. Another is that fibre ‘feeds bacteria and prevents bowel cancer’. A tiny amount does. Having too much fibre will worsen your constipation and IBS. Learn what is blocking your ‘pipes’. Understand what ‘locks’ fat into your cells that prevents you from losing fat? It’s not calories nor a lack of exercise! Sore, cramping muscles? Magnesium will help a little. But they are inflamed and full of fat. Learn how to soothe them. It’s your call. Do you want to stick with ‘bad air’? Or maybe choose the right answer and acknowledge the mistakes made? Over to you.

07.01.2022 Anthony! What did you eat for Christmas? Well, it’s a celebration of family so I ate pudding and some chocolate and potato.... What will you do tomorrow? (Boxing Day)? A slow bike ride and then a large plate of bacon and eggs and then back to my seafood, meat and veggies diet. If you drank too much? The hangover is a combination of inflammation and low blood sugar. 06.01.2022 Take a little time. Try and slow the world (and your head) down. It’s not laziness, nor indulgent nor wasted-time.... A quick coffee and quiet time between patients.

06.01.2022 I can always feel it. That little roll of extra fat around my middle or love-handles. It’s my early warning system.... It’s very subtle. It’s a sign though. I’ve had too much dark chocolate, cheese and nuts this week. Years ago when I was carrying an extra 15kilograms I wouldn’t have noticed. These days I do. It’s taken me years of work to get lean with weights, stopping grazing and reduce stress and stress-eating. So today? I’m halfway through a 24-hour fast. It’s a great reset. I’m drinking plenty of cool salted water through the day to help with any sodium loss and it really helps with cravings and hunger. Please remember. I’ve had to work on fasting over many, many months. For you it may be a work in progress. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Plan and give yourself a goal. Remember less is more. It’s not paying lip-service to ‘going keto’ or ‘going paleo’. It’s actually biting the bullet and starting to ‘dig out’ these ‘cupboards of fat’ that have accumulated around your middle over decades. It’s not about keto or paleo desserts or buying yet another keto cookbook or listening to yet another keto podcast. It’s not about finding that perfect dairy alternative, going vegan or doing another overpriced gut or allergy test. It’s planning on being black or white and making those tough decisions. Start planning. A tip? Use Aussie salt. We have great salt in this country. Stop buying Himalayan salt. Keep things local. Salt is sodium. It isn’t magnesium nor potassium. Keep it simple and tell those wellness warriors to bugger off. Salt your food and add to water if fasting. Sources of potassium, magnesium etc? Meat, seafood, greens, avocado, nuts/seeds. Bananas are not a good source of potassium. They (along with mangos) if you are already overweight, are a good source of staying fat.

06.01.2022 Why is it? Why is it we’ll learn about new technology? We’ll learn a new language.... We’ll learn to save more and be more disciplined with the credit card. We’ll learn to cook new things. We’ll stop at a red light or a school crossing. But when it comes to the one thing the body (especially the liver) wants, we just say ‘it’s too hard’? Re-learning not to snack? If only your liver could talk. It controls your fat cells. It rules your heart and brain. When your liver fails, your fat cells grow, you become inflamed, sore, bloated and broken and your heart and brain start to fail. Your liver has been begging you to stop snacking and grazing for decades. Please stop and listen if you want to get better.

Meat intake has been falling for 50 years. Bowel cancer, obesity, heart disease, and diabetes is skyrocketing (in younger people). The reason you cant get better? Its what your diet contains for 70% of your day, everyday. Rice, cereal, snacks, sushi, potato, bread, fruit, wraps, buns, starchy veggies, dried fruit and biscuits. Meat, eggs, seafood and dairy is the reason you are still standing. Dont be a vegan sheep. Be smarter and please see the trees and dont be blinded by the forest.

But if you are just too lazy to walk/go out or cook? I am so concerned by so many riders I see with no rear-lights out in the dark and rain, risking their lives to earn a living. 03.01.2022 My ‘leftovers’ for work over the next couple of day. I just roast the steak and snags and then will cut up in strips. I’ll then mix an avo with some lime and chilli for guacamole.... Plenty of protein, fat, fibre and goodness. A little bit of 95% dark chocolate will sneak in. Remember if you are trying to ‘dig out’ deep fat around your belly? Work really hard on 3 meals a day, no snacking. Delay breakfast and no dessert. Grog? Drinking and losing weight concurrently? An illusion sadly. I dug our my deep fat 6 years ago and I escaped my horrible carb addiction. Get free. Make some tough decisions?

03.01.2022 We need a new way. Both the wellness warriors (Pete Evans et al) and the diet dinosaurs (old school dietitians, doctors, public health and nutritional academics) have lost their way. One group is funding their extravagant lifestyle, the other is completely lost and has been for 100 years.... Leave both these ‘teams’ and let them battle each other. Please stop spending your hard-earned money and time seeking answers from either group. Please understand that you as individuals have some tough decisions to make. Look inwards not outwards. Collectively? We need to: Get happy before any dietary change will stick. Understand that if you are carrying weight around your middle, you must dig this deep fat out before you can ever hope to escape the yo-yo diet scenario. Build muscle/get strong, don’t just exercise. Understand food as fuel and carbohydrates (including fruit, whole meal and starchy veggies) become sugar in the body as fast as table sugar. Supplements, broths, fermented foods, protein powder, water, fibre, vegetables etc will not keep weight off. Alcohol is one of the greatest impediments to ‘getting better’. Unhappiness, dislocation, loneliness will always trump dietary change. We need to re-learn the art of ‘not eating’ and how to fuel ourselves so we can extricate ourselves from the warrior vs dinosaur vortex. We need new teams, new coaches, new rules and a new game plan. If you want to stay with the old-school warriors and dinosaurs-be prepared for more frustration and a decreasing bank balance. It’s your choice. The old teams or a new competition. Please be an individual, not a wellness warrior or diet dinosaur sheep. We only get one life. You need to make some tough decisions? Don’t allow others to make them for you.

Bone broth is 99% water with a very healthy pinch of salt, potassium etc. Collagen is the same. It is a highly processed powder. It is not a ‘food’. So where should you get your bone broth and collagen as a ‘food’? Meat and fish. Meat and canned salmon contain heaps of electrolytes, collagen, protein, minerals and vitamins. Please. Stop being conned and waylaid by these wellness warriors who tell you, you need to taking all these ‘extras’ to get better. This includes kefir, coconut/olive oil, butter, various protein powders, pork scratching, bacon and kombucha. Me? I get all my goodness from real food like meats, eggs, dairy, eggs, seafood and non-starch vegetables. The bigger and more important decision for you today? To not have bread, rice, fruit, pasta, alcohol and snacks. To get better? It’s not about more, it’s about less. Tell those wellness warriors to go get a real job. They need to do some volunteer work or earn a living not trying to drain the money out of your pocket. Can you do this for me? It’s like throwing your money after horses or speculative stocks. Sadly, everyone is a nutrition expert these days. Even doctors. They’ve had about an hour’s training in food over a 7 year degree. Please don’t let just anyone play with your health. Your health is the only one you have.

But for many of us, a few pieces of bread, wraps, burgers, fries etc is the norm? I don’t eat bread. Bread bloats, constipates, adds weight, worsens fatty liver and cholesterol. Why? Because in a matter of seconds it becomes sugar in the body, and sugar is a great irritant to the body. Coffee does none of this. It is a stimulant, so gauge your tolerance. More than 200 Australians daily (yes, daily) are being diagnosed with dementia.It is such an emotionally difficult disease for both patients and carers alike. Interestingly, the increase in dementia isnt only due to our ageing population. Dementia is being diagnosed (just like heart disease and diabetes) in younger patients.... Like a smoke alarm going off, the problem isn’t the alarm, ...the alarm is warning us that something is burning. Anxiety is the alarm that something is burning inside. An unresolved emotion, old fears, feelings of shame, not being good enough or hoping no one finds out what we’re hiding is often beneath the anxiety. But because anxiety is familiar, the bodymind prefers the feeling of anxiety over shame, guilt or other suppressed feelings. Next time you’re feeling anxious, ask yourself what you would be feeling if you weren’t feeling anxious? Understanding anxiety and how it’s our natural alarm system makes it so much easier to manage. That way we don’t have to be anxious about feeling anxious. We can just recognise the alarm bell and attend to what’s burning beneath the anxiety. Healing starts with awareness. 01.01.2022 So whats in yours? Your getting better first aid kit? Is it crammed full of stuff?... A non-dairy milk? A really expensive PT (and you still cant lose weight). A couple of glasses of wine as you walk through the door? Mindlessly eating crap after dinner? (probably the number one impediment for losing weight). Even more supplements? You still dont understand your blood tests (neither do the majority of doctors/dietitians). Tip: Ask them what a triglyceride is. If they give you a Donald Trump answer, smile and slowly back out of the office) Yet another gut-health/keto cookbook? Whats in my kit? Learning about the importance of loving the taste of food, but not being rewarded by it. (and I love food. I eat eggs, red meat daily, have cream in my coffee and love dark chocolate) Understanding how important building muscle is (how is that daily proper push-up coming along?) Can you now add 5 body squats? (Yep, Ive got bad knees too but they are getting better). The real biggie in my kit? Getting the brain out of the way of getting better. Stop putting up barriers to getting better. Get counselling if you need. Do yoga/meditation for at least 6 months (yes, I thought I wasnt a yoga person either ) Start cleaning out your first-aid kit and fill it with just the basics. Deal? Have a great day

01.01.2022 The problem with nutrition? Everyone is an expert. Nutrition for many has become a ‘part-time hustle’.... Basically they will write you a quick program and load you up on powders and supplements. I’ve been doing this for almost 20 years. The hustle will fill pockets but you won’t lose weight or get better in the long-run. This industry is so broken and lucrative. Both the diet dinosaurs and wellness warriors are wrong. Getting you better is a process involving blood tests, stressors, diet, priorities, stages, and logic. Would you trust your money to a part-time hustling accountant? Why do we do this for our precious health? We can chat and get the basics right without the hustle?

01.01.2022 Anti-farmer? Anti-economy? Pro-health?... Anti-myth? The chance not to get fat, diabetic and have poor teeth? Me? I’m a nutritionist. Orange juice? It is just sugar and water. It will heighten your risk of diabetes, fatty liver, rotten teeth, bloating, pain, heart disease, cancer and obesity. There is no difference between the sugar in a soft drink and that in a juice. Now it’s up to you. Follow the science or old myth (that fruit and fruit juice is ‘good for you’?) I follow science, not myths or economic pressures, to get you better.
