08.01.2022 Consultation on the NSW Government’s proposed gaming machine harm minimisation laws has been extended to 11 December 2020 to allow more time for submissions. Great progress is being made but to ensure we get the reforms right we want to give stakeholders more time to consider the proposals and make a submission. The Gaming Machines Amendment (Gambling Harm Minimisation) Bill 2020 will help registered clubs and hotels to minimise gambling harm and provide additional support to... gaming machine players. Instead of only needing to provide support when someone specifically asks for help, clubs and hotels would need to actively identify and assist gaming machine players who display problematic gambling behaviours. The proposed changes respond to the need to support gaming machine players experiencing problems and improve the way clubs and hotels can minimise gambling harm as they continue to get back to business. The measures proposed in the draft Bill reflect a commitment made by the Government and ClubsNSW in a Memorandum of Understanding signed on 13 October 2018. They also form part of a 2019 election commitment. Further information is available at https://www.customerservice.nsw.gov.au//Laws-that-help-min.

04.01.2022 REMEMBRANCE DAY SERVICES TO GO AHEAD Groups of up to 100 people will be able to gather for Remembrance Day services after the approval of a one-off exemption from COVID-19 restrictions. Remembrance Day is a major event for both veterans and the broader community to pay their respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. ... The easing of restrictions to public gatherings for Remembrance Day means wreath laying ceremonies and other memorial services can take place with up to 100 people present, to pay their respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The one-off exemption to the Public Health Order increases the current restrictions from 20 people to 100 people, to gather at community war memorials, provided they adhere to social distancing measures and have a COVID-19 Safety Plan in place. Australians have paused to reflect and pay tribute on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month since 1918, so this is welcome news for our veterans community. The exemption is in place for Remembrance Day Services held before 12 November.
