25.01.2022 When you're talking about black plants, of course canna Tropicanna Black needs to be part of the conversation! In this article on birdsandblooms.com, the top 10 black plants are listed, including canna Tropicanna Black: "Boasting bright scarlet blooms, the Tropicanna Black series offers a refreshing alternative for cannas. You’ll need to plant the rhizomes every spring. Then sit back and watch the magic as they grow up to 6 feet tall. The plants do best with at least six hour...s of sun, but will tolerate some shade. Why we love it: It’s one of the easiest ways to bring the flair of the tropics to your backyard."

23.01.2022 Repost @rbgsydney Magnolia Vulcan is a modern hybrid of an ancient plant lineage. Magnolias first appeared in the fossil record around 95 million years ago, but this hybrid is much more recent. It is a hybrid of the tropical Asian, Magnolia liliiflora Nigra and Magnolia campbellii subsp. mollicomata Lanarth from the Himalayas via Cornwall in England. It is a deciduous, compact, small tree with large, fragrant, dark pink/magenta flowers.

23.01.2022 Magnolia Burgundy Star has exquisite claret red/burgundy star-shaped flowers.

22.01.2022 Repost @anthonytesselaarplants HOW TO GROW THE PERFUME PRINCESS Please understand that anyone can grow Daphne Perfume Princess because she quickly leaps up and grows into an awe-inspiring success of a plant without any garden skill necessary. Of course you do have to decide where to plant her pretty much anywhere is ok and you do need to dig the hole. But really, after youve remembered to water her in, thats it. You might remember to give her a little more water if ...the weather was very warm, but otherwise you can leave Perfume Princess alone to get on with it. The only other tip you may want to pick up on is that after the flowering has finished, you could set her up for a summers worth of phenomenal growth by throwing a handful of slow release fertiliser around the base of the plant. Thats it, really. #gardenlife #blooms #summer #garden #daphneperfumeprincess #anthonytesselaarplants #gardening #plants #horticulture #gardencenter #landscapedesign #landscaping #gardendesign #gardenlove See more

13.01.2022 STOP PRESS: TUXEDO IS HERE! Hot news. The brilliant Tuxedo hydrangea is about to be released right now in Australia. (Sorry NZ, you’ll need to wait until next year.) This is a great plant with two colours, in two formats, all versions on offer right from the get-go. What that means is that you can choose from vibrant red or a hot pink, in either a moptop hydrangea flower or a lace-cap form. And whatever flower you pick, the foliage is gloriously flushed with dark purple to black. Tuxedo hydrangea is a great gift plant (because it looks flash), and it’s also likely to be well loved by the landscapers as black-toned plants tend to be. Stocks should hold, but don’t leave it too late.

13.01.2022 Re-posted from @finegardening Funky foliage brings a tropical flair to Linda’s West Vancouver garden. While Linda still has plenty of flowers on display, it is the foliage plants, including Canna Tropicanna, that steal the show with vibrant colors and dynamic texture.

07.01.2022 STOP! LOOK AT THE LEAVES Strange as this sounds, one of the reasons why Flower Carpet roses have become every-gardener’s-best-friend comes down to the leaves. That’s right not the flowers but the foliage. Not that anyone is saying the flowers aren’t the main reason Flower Carpet roses have such a big fan club, because they are. But it’s the green part of the plant that’s really important in a behind-the-scenes way Why? Because Flower Carpet rose foliage doesn’t look dull or diseased like lots of other roses do. The plant is a tough thriver so its foliage is green and glossy. The other good thing about the foliage on all Flower Carpet roses is that it hangs around, even in cold weather when lots of other roses drop their leaves for the winter. So even when it’s not in bloom, it’s a good looking green bush, growing in your garden.

05.01.2022 Repost @townandcountrygardens Now for the deciduous magnolias. Unlike the evergreen magnolias we showcased in our previous post and story, the deciduous magnolias lose their leaves in late autumn, begin flowering on bare branches in late winter, and grow new leaves in spring. Once again, there are many varieties to choose from, in various sizes and shades of white, pale pink, magenta, burgundy and near-black. Pictured here in the nursery today are:... 1 & 2 - Magnolia Black Tulip 3 - Magnolia San Jose 4 - Magnolia Heaven Scent Also in stock, but not pictured, are Magnolia Vulcan and Magnolia liliflora Nigra. For help and advice about choosing the right Magnolia for you, please call us on 9822 3305. Delivery and kerbside pickup available.

02.01.2022 MEET VULCAN, FELIX, the BLACK TULIP and their friend BURGUNDY STAR Theyre fabulous and fleshy, gorgeous and glowing. Theyre the Jury magnolias and at the end of a dreary winter, they are a sight to make any heart glad as they burst into flower. These tree magnolias are the best youll find world-wide, the work of a gifted New Zealand plant breeder called Mary Jury (look him up). Theyre the perfect sized tree for any home garden and after the shortest time possible, put on ...a show of blooms to make us all say, Ahhhh. The four best are: Magnolia Vulcan, Magnolia Felix, Magnolia Black Tulip and Magnolia Burgundy Star. Magnolia Vulcan has magenta flowers which are ten inches across. Magnolia Felix is hot pink with 12 inch blooms. Black Tulip magnolias flowers are six-inch goblets of black-purple, and Magnolia Burgundy Star produces five inch flowers that are claret red and fragrant. Any of these would be a brilliant choice for anyone looking to plant a tree with a sensational seasonal moment. See more

01.01.2022 Repost @botanicagardenstyling We have vowed to use more traditional, deciduous magnolias. They have a beautiful sculptural form when bare, are enticing with buds and are spectacular when blooming. This Magnolia Vulcan is exquisite against the simple greens below and pretty White House. #magnoliavulcan #magnolias #jurymagnolias

01.01.2022 Repost @newmansgardencentre Magnolia Burgundy Star has a narrow upright growth habit. An excellent choice when space is limited. Growing to four metres high and two metres wide. 01.01.2022 The NEW Tuxedo Hydrangeas stand out from all other hydrangeas. Why? Because of their dark purple/black flushed leaves contrasting with large, lushly bold red or pink flowers, of course! So make sure you order yours from your local garden centre today!

01.01.2022 Repost @newmansgardencentre Magnolia Black Tulip - is one of the most stunning Magnolias of the recently released Jury Magnolias from New Zealand. An upright tree to only about 5 metres, large light green foliage followed by stunning rich purple goblet shaped blooms on bare winter branches. Deciduous Magnolias have a spectacular habit of producing their blooms on naked stems in late winter to announce spring. Many new cultivars have large, richly-coloured and mostly fragra...nt blooms, and the colour range has been expanded to include bright pinks, lemon yellows, vivid purples, rich burgundy and purest of whites. The best known deciduous Magnolias produce large tulip form flowers, but they can vary with different varieties producing goblet, champagne-flute and star shaped flowers, these are also extremely spectacular. Where to plant - An eastern or southern aspect is perfect. Once considered not suited to the limey soils of the Adelaide plains along with our hot dry summers, however they have proved to be tougher that we thought. Deciduous Magnolias can be easily grown given well prepared fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil, and will do best when offered protection from damaging winds in a lightly shaded position. Eastern and southern facing gardens often provide the best opportunity to grow a Magnolia. They enjoy all morning sun, but are best out of the ravages of our hot afternoon sun. Stocking a beautiful collection of deciduous and evergreen magnolias. Open everyday at Tea Tree Gully. #magnoliablacktulip #magnoliatree #blacktulip #newmansnursery #teatreegully #gobletshapedflowers #burgundyblooms #specimentree #magnoliafelix #magnoliavulcan #adelaidehillsgardens #adelaidegardens #adelaidehills #magnolialittlegem #magnoliablossom #magnoliadenudata
