16.01.2022 To be able to trek in the footsteps of our ANZAC heroes on the Kokoda Track is something I am truly grateful for. The sacrifices and courage those amazing men ...and women had to endure during those dark days is what every Australian should reflect on ANZAC Day. The Spirit of the digger born from the trenches of The Great War has lived on from generation to generation and shall never be forgotten. Im truly honored and feel so privileged to be able help keep the digger spirit alive by sharing the story and history of the 1942 Kokoda Campaign. Over the years Ive led and guided many trekkers on the Kokoda Track to who I can proudly say are my mates. This ANZAC day take the time to reflect and remember... Lest We Forget.

16.01.2022 Anzac Day Virtual Trek Today would have been the first day of our 16-25 April 2020 Anzac Day trek. This trek would have commemorated Anzac Day at the Bomana War... Cemetery in Port Moresby. Every day we will post each days itinerary. Who wants to join us for Anzac Day 2021? 8 night 9 day Owers to Kokoda Day 1 Port Moresby Good Water Camp (approx. 3 hours) Today we travel by road from Port Moresby via the Bomana War Cemetery to pay our respect to the fallen soldiers. We then travel to Sogeri where there is a white stone monument marking the beginning of the Kokoda Trail. Our road journey then takes us to McDonalds Corner, this is where B company of the 39th Battalion commenced their walk to Kokoda and then onto the North Coast area. B company was led by Captain Sam Templeton and guided by Bert Kienzle. They departed McDonalds Corner on July 7 1942 and arrived in Kokoda July 15 1942. We continue to Owers Corner with an air of excitement and apprehension for the journey ahead. There is time to relax along the road and take photographs of the spectacular scenery. On our arrival at Owers Corner we make final checks and preparations for the trek ahead and meet our personal porters. Owers Corner was also the place where our Australian troops first received the morale boosting artillery support from the gunners. Three 25-pound guns were positioned on the ground and fired 800 rounds over three days into Ioribaiwa Ridge, where the Japanese made their last big push; it took 25 seconds for the projectiles to cover the 15miles across Imita Ridge into Ioribaiwa. Our troops also dragged down the hill one of the 25-pound guns across Goldie River and up towards Imita Ridge. Have a look for the original zig zag track cut along the way which wound its way down the ridge and up towards Imita Ridge. We start the Kokoda Track with a steep descent down to the Goldie River. The trail crosses the Goldie River and past the abandoned village of Uberi. The first camp is deep jungle, in an old wartime campsite location of Dump 66/Goodwater at the foot of Imita Ridge. Dump 66 was a major supply/logistic area and also had a medical aid post. Overnight Good Water Camp. https://www.kokodaspirit.com.au/all-trek-dates/#Dates

15.01.2022 Day 2 - Good Water Camp Ioribaiwa (approx. 7 hours) The first full day of the Kokoda Trail walk includes the ascent up Imita Ridge. Although this is not the ...steepest or the highest of the mountains along the trail, it will give you an indication of things to come. We stop on top of Imita Ridge and soak in the atmosphere of the place. Imita Ridge was our last line of defence, the line was drawn in the sand here, there was to be no further withdrawal. There was a set of Golden Stairs on both sides of Imita Ridge and up towards Ioribaiwa Village. It is important to remember across the Kokoda Track that there was more than one set of Golden Stairs. We descend down Imita Ridge into the beautiful Ua-Ule Creek area (Pronounced Fa-Lay). Here we take our boots off and put on our adventure sandals to cross the creek 22 times. After the creek crossings we put our boots back on and make our final ascent for the day up the gruelling Ioribaiwa Ridge. You will now know that all that training was now worthwhile. Our walk today finishes at the Village of Ioribaiwa. Overnight Iorabaiwa See more

08.01.2022 Just finished watching this incredible doco series on Netflix. For an unbiased, with factual accounts both on film and interviews and the excellent narration, I highly recommend it. Like any war the consequences were horrific on all sides but we also hope we learn from past mistakes.

08.01.2022 Hello everyone! Its been 2 years with planning and now finally in February 2020 together with my awesome trail running/ trekking buddy and fellow Kokoda Ultra Marathon companion Scott Strothers, we will both be trekking 100km through rugged and remote wilderness in the Victorian Highlands for a special event called the Oscars Hut2Hut. The event raises awareness and acceptance for children and families living with Autism. Proceeds raised will help supply and create the much ...needed early intervention programs that have been recognised to dramatically improve the performance of children with Autism and preparing them for mainstream education and even eventual independence. Together with our passion for the great outdoors, we aim to complete the 100km in just 3 days. And knowing that with every step and every kilometre we nail, its all for a very special cause. Please show your support for our little adventure by donating through the link below. https://www.mycause.com.au/page/214013/bearded-wanderers Thanking you and your support Anthony Thompson and Scott AKA- The Bearded Wanderers
