21.01.2022 Heres some pictures of a lawn that was attacked by beetle larvae (lawn grubs). We got the job in early summer by which time it was too late for spraying, so its been about damage control since then. They go for the greenest lawn in the street and are attracted to lights. This lawn is surrounded by street style lamps. Perfect conditions to attract the beetles. Note the complete absence of roots on the peeled back patch of lawn.

19.01.2022 I was dealing with a lawn covered in flickweed (Cardamine hirsuta) recently. All seeded up and ready to burst. It is a fascinating weed. If you touch the seed pods when they are ready to spread and the seed pod is dry they burst open and spread seed a good meter or so in all directions. Great fun for kids, not so much for gardeners. It is mostly a nursery weed though and if you have it, it is a good indicator of over-watering. Pull back on the watering and it will die back significantly. Hand weed early if you see it.Once mature its impossible to hand weed and youd need a pre-emergent spray to deal with the seeds. 19.01.2022 Where theres sooty mould youll find aphids or some other sapsucker from the order Hemiptera. I hadnt seen aphids on a pittosporum though until I came across these in Barton on Wednesday. Sprayed eco-oil to clean them up and shall fertilise come spring.

14.01.2022 Before and after shots of an old and not too healthy plum tree. A lot of borer damage was evident. I removed dead wood and branches overhanging neighbours property and made space for the camellias to grow and for sunlight to get to the lawn. The photos might not show it well enough but it has opened up the space nicely.

13.01.2022 Heres the same lawn just visited on Monday. Spread some grass seed very late in Autumn in a fit of optimism that paid off due to a late starting winter. Shall top dress and put down some clover seed in spring. Meanwhile Im looking at acquiring a nematode species that is a natural parasite of the grubs. This would be preferable to the toxic sprays that would also kill any bees taking nectar from clover flowers in the lawn.

10.01.2022 Met a great sculptor at the Hall markets today. Check out his website http://www.tobiasbennett.com.au/ and facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Tobiasmetal Should you buy one of his sculptures Id love to design a native garden to display it for you.

09.01.2022 Hello all, I have decided to try and dedicate a lot more time to Facebook as I alter my business somewhat. I am also starting a blog where I hope to expand upon things that may be of interest as they come up. So thanks for sticking around and heres hoping to help you out and/or entertain you into the future.

09.01.2022 What a great Spring in Canberra. Mind you the weeds are growing even better than the thriving garden plants so get them out quickly if you havent already. A lot of them are about to set seed and there is much truth in the saying "One years seeding, seven years weeding."

04.01.2022 Just a reminder to anyone with peach or nectarine trees that now is the time to spray for leaf curl. You can make your own Bordeaux mixture: http://www.abc.net.au/gardening/stories/s1631445.htm or just get something ready made from the shops, but strike now before its too late...

04.01.2022 I am aiming to take the world of garden maintenance beyond mowing and pruning to the world of garden creation. I aim to share my love and passion for gardening with you all and start putting smiles on body corporate faces when there gardens become beautiful open spaces worth wandering through. I hope you can all join me on my journey and enjoy it as much as I intend to.
