21.01.2022 Celebrating and protecting women’s rights is a year-round responsibility. But on International Women’s Day (IWD), it’s even more important to take a stand for women’s equality. #ChooseToChallenge is the theme of #IWD2021. We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements. From challenge comes change, so let’s all choose to challenge!

15.01.2022 Recently ADNSW has received several enquiries about questions that are asked on employment application forms. It is not against the law to ask applicants for personal details on an application form or at an interview, such as their date of birth, country of birth, whether they are single or married, their sexual orientation or their age. However, it may be against the law to make discriminatory decisions based on this personal information. Employers are advised to make employ...ment decisions based on the merit of the applicants and to only ask questions that are directly relevant to carrying out the tasks of the job. 11.01.2022 This week we say goodbye to our Macquarie University PACE Program students who have been on their online student placement with us the past few months. We'd like to thank the students for their patience as we navigated the world of remote placements during COVID-19! We have valued having the students with us, and their assistance with our work. 10.01.2022 How did you celebrate #IWD2021? Yesterday, we were privileged to hear ADNSW President Dr Annabelle Bennett share her inspirational story at the Women in Communities and Justice Network’s IWD 2021 event. A retired judge of the Federal Court of Australia and a mother of three, Annabelle spoke candidly and reminded us to never be afraid of saying ‘I don’t know’, to always be a role model, and to say ‘yes’ to opportunities even if they are outside your comfort zone.

10.01.2022 Recently, we have received a number of enquiries about the use of golf carts for people with disabilities. Some golf clubs provide their own golf carts for golfers, but charge an additional fee for the use of a personal golf cart, including modified golf carts for people with disability. In NSW, disability discrimination (including the use of disability equipment) is against the law in the provision of goods and services. This includes indirect discrimination, which is when t...here is a rule or requirement that is the same for everyone but unfairly affects people with a disability. If you or someone you know has experienced accessibility issues at your golf club, we encourage you to make a complaint directly to the club. 03.01.2022 Every year, Transgender Day of Remembrance honours the memory of transgender people who have lost their lives through transphobic violence. This year, The Gender Centre, City of Sydney, Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, SWOP, ICLC and Amazon have created a unique live online event. Curated by Bhenji Ra and featuring a cast of BIPOC (Bla(c)k, Indigenous, and People of Colour) transgender and gender-diverse performers, the event will be a stunning commemoration of friends and... family lost but always remembered. The Gender Centre invites you to watch at home, light a candle (real or digital) and reflect on those who have been lost. 02.01.2022 Last week the Disability Royal Commission released its interim report and found that people with disability in Australia continue to face barriers relating to communication, attitudes and experience high rates of violence.
