19.01.2022 Studebaker entered the automotive business in 1902 with electric vehicles and in 1904 with gasoline vehicles, all sold under the name "Studebaker Automobile Company". Studebaker was a company with a reputation for producing impressive car designs. When it brought out the famous "bullet nose" model many thought it to be a radically new idea. Studebaker produced 343,164 cars in 1950 and 268,564 cars in 1951. If those figures hold true, then there was a total of 611,728 Studeba...kers with the bullet nose. The grille design is generally credited to Bob Burke who had been drawing a bullet nose design since 1941. Although some Studebaker staff did not appreciate the boldness of a design which brought back the idea of airplanes so shortly after World War II, Loewy was able to sell them on the overall look of the car with the streamlined projection. The bullet nose models were in three different sized vehicles: the Champion, the Commander, and the Land Cruiser. The front end of these vehicles was matched with large wrap-around rear windows making for spectacular cars. Studebaker had reached sales records with its 1947-1949 models and the company had high hopes that new 1950 models would do as well. Studebaker found the designs were very much accepted by the public as it introduced a new V8 engine and an Automatic Drive transmission. The factory at South Bend Indiana added a third shift and the factories in Southern California and Canada were working near capacity. Studebaker reached its peak years for sales and employment with the 1950 and 1951 bullet nose models. It had changed the rim that surrounded the bullet on the 1951 model from a chrome ring to a painted ring but increased the size of the chrome grill to keep its shiny chrome effect.

19.01.2022 David's 1929 Dodge In the early 1900’s the Dodge Brothers Company machine shop was run by brothers Horace and John Dodge. Dodge was originally a supplier of parts and assemblies for Detroit based automakers, most notably Ford, and began building complete automobiles under the "Dodge Brothers" brand in 1914. The factory was located in Hamtramck Michigan, and was called the Dodge Main Factory from 1910 until its closing in January 1980 Cars were exported to Australia from 1916.... Many cars were bodied locally by the likes of Holden. Dodge was sold to the new Chrysler Corporation in 1928. Under Chrysler's influence Dodge Brothers released a revised model range in the period 1929-1930, beginning with the new DA Series. The four cylinder engine was no longer available, the new model featured two six cylinder engines. Powered by a 208-cid L-head six-cylinder engine developing 63 horsepower at 3000 rpm, the DA rode on a 108-inch (2743mm) wheelbase with styling that generally reflected the trends adopted by Chrysler. The bowl-shaped headlamps were mounted on a bowed tie-bar, the bonnet was longer and the wings crowned. Technical innovations included Lovejoy shock absorbers, North-East ignition, a petrol filter and a new exhaust manifold that extended from the front of the engine. Buyers were offered a choice of body styles including a Roadster, Phaeton, Coupe (Business, Deluxe or Victoria), Brougham or Sedan, employing the all-steel Monopiece construction technique. Dodge was positioned between Plymouth and Chrysler within the Chrysler Corporation and thanks to the DA, the company reversed the decline in sales to climb back to seventh in the American market during 1929, up from thirteenth the previous year. The 120 inch(3048mm) wheelbased DB Six Senior had the 78hp 241 cu in 6 cylinder ( 2 door Coupe, 2 door Roadster, 2 and 4 door Sedan, 4 door Brougham and 4 door Landau)

15.01.2022 MGA Production - The MGA replaced the MG TF 1500 and represented a complete styling break from MG's earlier sports cars. Announced on 26 September 1955 the MGA was officially launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany. A total of 101,081 cars were built through the end of production in July 1962, the vast majority of which were exported from England. In May 1959 the standard 1500 cc cars received an updated engine and name MGA 1600, The engine enlarged to 1588 cc produci...ng 79.5 bhp (59 kW). The car now had disc brakes with drums at the rear. 31,501 1600’s were produced in less than three years.] Externally the car was very similar to the 1500 with differences including: amber or white (depending on market) front turn indicators shared with white parking lamps, separate stop/tail and turn lamps at the rear. There was 1600 badges on the boot and the cowl. A number of 1600 De Luxe versions were produced with leftover special wheels and four-wheel disc brakes of the departed Twin-Cam, or using complete modified Twin-cam chassis left redundant by the discontinuance of that model. Seventy roadsters and 12 coupés were built. A version of 1600 open car was tested by English car magazine The Motor in 1959. The MGA 1600 recorded a top speed of 96.1 mph (154.7 km/h) and could accelerate from 060 mph (97 km/h) in 13.3 seconds. A fuel consumption of 29.7 miles per imperial gallon (9.5 L/100 km; 24.7 mpg US) was recorded.

13.01.2022 The fixed-roof MGB GT was introduced in October 1965. Production continued until 1980, although export to the US ceased in 1974. The MGB GT sported a ground-breaking greenhouse designed by Pininfarina and launched the sporty "hatchback" style. By combining the sloping rear window with the rear deck lid, the B GT offered the utility of a station wagon while retaining the style and shape of a coupe. This new configuration was a 2+2 design with a right-angled rear bench seat an...d far more luggage space than in the roadster. Relatively few components differed, although the MGB GT did receive different suspension springs and anti-roll bars and a different windscreen which was more easily and inexpensively serviceable. In 2019, Road & Track named the GT one of the "16 of Pininfarina's Most Beautiful Designs That Aren't Ferraris." Although acceleration of the GTversion was slightly slower than that of the roadster (owing to its increased weight) top speed improved by 5 mph (8.0 km/h) to 105 mph (169 km/h) because of better aerodynamics.

09.01.2022 The Triumph Dolomite was made by the Triumph Motor Company division of British Leyland Corporation at Coventry in England between October 1972 and August 1980. Production 1972 - 1980 79,010. In Australia between 1975 and 1976 some 1440 4 cylinder 1854cc versions and some 650 16 valve 2 litre Sprint versions were imported. The Triumph Dolomite was unveiled at the London Motor Show in October 1971. However, due to a number of strikes and other industrial upsets, the car was n...ot reported to be in full production until October 1972. The name "Dolomite" had been used by Triumph for a range of models prior to the Second World War and this was revived for the new car.. The car used the new slant four cylinder 1.854 cc engine, which mated an alloy overhead cam (OHC) cross flow head to an iron block, providing 91 bhp (68 kW) and which offered sprightly performance. Styling was similar to the Triumph 1500, with some updates such as a black painted rear panel, vinyl D-posts, and new wheel trims. The car was capable of 100 mph (160 km/h), with 60 mph (97 km/h) coming up in just over 11 seconds. An overdrive gearbox was available as an option and there was also an optional automatic transmission. This ACCAW ‘French Blue’ car has a 4 speed transmission and overdrive on third and fourth gears.

07.01.2022 The Studebaker Dictator was produced from 1927 through 1936 with 1928 being the first full year of the Dictator production. The Dictator was designed as a replacement for the Standard Six. This new model amplified the reputation of the Studebaker Company by breaking 28 distance and time records during the end of the 1920s. The name Dictator was used because it 'dictated the standard' and was conceived as a model line that other marques would imitate. The name Dictator was pr...obably not a good choice. It made exportation to certain European monarchies difficult and when for export Studebaker switched the name to the Standard Six. On the home front, many people viewed the name in the political terms and felt it was rather depressing so the name was dropped in 1937. RHD Studebakers were produced at Studebakers Plant No 7 at Walkerville, Ontario, Canada. The RHD complete cars were assembled from components that had been shipped from the South Bend and Detroit factories in the USA or from parts locally made in Canada. Production was designated for the Canadian (left-hand drive) and for the British Empire (right-hand drive) market. By locating a manufacturing plant in Canada, Studebaker could advertise the cars as "British-built" and qualify for reduced tariffs. Studebaker later closed the Canadian Walkerville plant in 1936 due to changing tariff structures. This ACCAW 1928 Studebaker has an American name ‘Director Royal’ and is a very nice 6 cylinder version.
