20.01.2022 Geranium macrorrhizum is one of my favourite Cranesbills. Evergreen carpets of felty foliage smothered in rich pink flowers for months on end. 19.01.2022 Does anyone actually like those horrible over bred Heucheras with gawdy purple or yellow foliage? They are impossible to place in a garden without sticking out like Dog's balls. However many of the original species are excellent specimens. This is Heuchera villosa var macrorrhiza, a beautiful robust species with attractive lime maple like leaves in dense mounds with 60cm tall stems carrying dozens of ivory white flowers for months on end. This specimen is planted in full sun in our gravel garden and thrives with little attention. #heuchera #garden #plants #tough #plantcollector #kinglake #retailnursery #displaygarden #perennials

17.01.2022 Ever thought of doing a grass hedge? Personally I don't like clipped Hedges, too much discipline and torture on the poor shrubs so we planted Calamagrostis 'Karl Foerster' as an informal grass 'hedge' to give the display garden a backdrop. These were planted in late autumn and have already done the trick. The flowers will complement the autumn tones of the National Park in the background and the movement of the grasses in the wind is quite hipnotic.
