25.01.2022 Cleaning up this piece of trench art made from a 1942 casing and some badges.

25.01.2022 Nice simple antique brass and iron bed we have just restored and delivered to our customer. Looks good in satin black powdercoat with polished and clear coated brass. We made a new slat base to complete our work.

24.01.2022 Antique double bed converted to Queen size and cut down for a low ceiling.

22.01.2022 Another barometer/thermometer restoration. Brass was polished and clear coated, timber cleaned and polished, and silver plaque polished.

21.01.2022 A quick refurbishment in time for Easter. Tabernacle, Paschal Candlestand and standing Sanctuary lamp .

19.01.2022 A quick film prop - an extra large wedding band required for an actor in an upcoming tv series. Hand turned out of brass this should look the part on tv!

19.01.2022 Cleaning and polishing silver and silver plated cutlery ready for a customer’s dinner party.

17.01.2022 We were commissioned to make a brass fire guard to fit a trench between the timber floor and the new marble fireplace. With hand turned solid brass pillars, this is nearly 1800mm long and was made entirely in our workshop. Now that it has been installed the marble will be sealed and the surround painted completing the fireplace installation.

14.01.2022 This is from a fairly recent Australian Army Officer ceremonial sword that had peeling chrome plating as the result of not enough copper being used on the steel. We stripped, removed the corrosion, and polished and chrome plated it to return it to presentation condition.

13.01.2022 When we received these one had been snapped off at the neck and both had a very heavy layer of corrosion. They were quite unstable and we were asked to supply and fit timber bases. We used silky oak with natural edges and mounted using bolts soldered up inside both legs. Very happy with the outcome.

12.01.2022 Another restored bed being set up for a customer. This is quite an elaborate one dating to around 1915.

11.01.2022 Just completed this antique cash register restoration. The machine was made in the USA in 1902 by National Cash Register. This one would originally have been nickel plated however at some stage of life it has been stripped back to the brass. The drawer is a nickel allow hence it not being brass. It had an old lacquer coating which we removed before polishing and then clear coating. Lots of screws were missing and we made replacements for them in the original style. Whilst this is a nice machine belonging to a collector we have also restored these to be used in shops. They vary in weight but this one is quite heavy at around 35kg - thankfully the brass panels get removed so we can restore them.

11.01.2022 Been working on a lovely Georgian tea urn with a missing handle to the tap. From raw ebony stock we carved a replacement, repaired the ferule, and it is now ready for the next 200 years of its life.

10.01.2022 Before and after pictures of a brass covered chest of drawers we recently restored.

09.01.2022 We often have to repair teapot handles. This is an ebony one from the 1870’s that had broken away from the lower socket. We have laminated a piece of ebony onto it and shaped it to fit, making the teapot useable once again with a strong repair that can’t be seen.

09.01.2022 Working on a plaque restoration. Once we are satisfied with the background we will finish polish the lettering and clear coat it. Very happy with how it is coming up.

08.01.2022 Silver candlesticks, mirror backs, and knife handles are often filled with substances to give them strength. The most common one we see is a mix of gum rosin and plaster of Paris. The gum rosin is heat sensitive allowing it to be poured in or out when heated, and the plaster makes it less brittle. We made a fresh batch this morning on the BBQ to fill a number of jobs. We often find other things added to these mixes - sand and clay are quite common, but keep ours pure. Old knife blades can slide away from their handles if put in a dishwasher - this can often be repaired by heating the parts in boiling water and pushing them together.

06.01.2022 Pair of antique cold painted spelter lamps. These were in a container in cyclone Yasi and sat in water for some time. The zinc was heavily corroded and the figures were detached from the bases and there were no timber plinths. The biggest restoration job we have ever undertaken on something like this; in the end it became a labour of love to get them right. Full restoration including patina to original colours and finishes.

06.01.2022 2 beds delivered and set up in a freshly renovated Queenslander. As the builders have now finished we also put the shade and font on the Miller Hanging Light we recently restored.

06.01.2022 We’ve been busy polishing silver over the past few weeks including the giant floor candelabra and a nice collection of silverware.

05.01.2022 We’ve also been polishing and clear coating these brass letters from a sign.

05.01.2022 Nice modern ship’s clock with bell we have been working on.

03.01.2022 In the final stages of carving a new ear for this squirrel. It is a cold painted soft metal bronze; will be a tricky colour match. We will post a picture once we finish it.

02.01.2022 A poignant reminder of those who died at the various Broken Hill mines in the pursuit of silver (and other ores). Over 800 have died there, I shall think of them each time I sit at the workbench. #brokenhillminersmemorial

02.01.2022 We completed this binnacle top restoration today. We made a new brass lid for the illumination chamber and repaired dents and polished it. We made a 550mm diameter silky oak base and had our electrician wire the light. We restored and mounted the compass and repainted the binnacle top inside. We are very happy with the way it worked out.
