A key theme in this year's conference is giving voice to hidden perspectives and having those reclaimed narratives rise to the surface. This is a particularly prevalent issue in New Caledonia at the moment, where the pandemic has taken a back seat to concerns around New Caledonia's upcoming referendum on independence.... 10.01.2022 Happy Monday everyone! Introducing another stellar panel for APW 2020- "COVID-19: More than just a disease". The Coronavirus Pandemic has affected much more than just the health of people around the world. The global crisis has tested our systems at every institution at every level, revealing the cracks in our governance and societies. Therefore, this panel will take a dive into the hidden perspectives of the COVID pandemic, and provide delegates with a holistic, systemic understanding of the global crisis. We have lined up various highly knowledgeable speakers including Professor Sharon Friel, Professor Veronica Taylor, Australia Pacific Security College's Jay Caldwell and moderated by Professor Mark Kenny.
09.01.2022 Introducing our second panel for APW 2020! Our Activism panel will be expanding on our conference theme to discuss and explore the Surging Voices and Hidden perspective within the Asia and Pacific region. Our speakers include ANU’s Dr Virgina Marshall and Associate Professor Roald Maliangkay along with PHD candidate, Talei Mangioni. The panel will be moderated by APW’s Content Co-ordinator, Madeleine McDonald.
06.01.2022 Now in its tenth year, Asia Pacific Week is an interdisciplinary conference, bringing together high calibre students and young professionals from around the world. Highly regarded for its capacity to draw in diverse and innovative perspectives, Asia Pacific Week aims to equip delegates with the knowledge, skills and empathy, to become compassionate young leaders of change in the dynamic and evolving Asia Pacific region. Under our 2020 theme of 'When Oceans Rise,' we will discuss emerging voices and hidden perspectives within the region. Asia Pacific Week consists of thought-provoking panels, debates, and workshops, as well as a vibrant social schedule, to provide delegates with opportunities to network and engage with like-minded peers, policymakers, world-class academics and leaders.
04.01.2022 Carl Miller explores the success of Taiwan's virtual political debate platform called vTaiwan, designed to inform policy makers on the views of its citizens. The platform has also been quite successful in uniting people with differing political views as the aim of the space is compromise rather than to amplify division. "They found that re-engineering the online space had exposed a deeper human truth. In politics, humans spend most of their time concentrating on what they disagree upon. 03.01.2022 Dive into the third fantastic panel we have lined up for APW 2020, 'The Ripple Effect: Climate Displacement in the Pacific'. This panel will discuss what the ripple effect of a climate migration crisis would look like for our region. We will be joined by another incredible line-up of speakers- Dr Fanny Thornton, Dr George Carter, Dr Quynh Nguyen and moderated by Dr Siobhan McDonnell.

The Gala Dinner held on the final night of the conference, and is an opportunity for delegates to celebrate everything they have learned and all the new people they have met!
