06.01.2022 Researchers from The Australian National University found a monster supermassive black hole, coming in at *34 billion times* the mass of our Sun at a time when ...the Universe was relatively young. It's thought that supermassive black holes (which reside in the centre of galaxies) build up over time from the accretion of smaller black holes. But this one was found at a relatively early period in the Universe's history, which has scientists intrigued as to how it got so big, so early on. And it's not only big - it's hungry. It eats the mass of one Sun every day! https://spaceaustralia.com//hungry-supermassive-black-hole #SpaceAustralia Credit: Nima Abkenar
