Please find the application form below where you can nominate your purchase. We hope this will be helpful and accessible to all members of the DSA regardless of whether you're in the ACT, interstate, or in self-isolation. Keep well and happy Sp...oon Week! 23.01.2022 Just another bump for this project. We are beginning production soon and we'd love to have more people on board. We are working with Woroni TV to put together a 3-8 minute video to tell any sort of story about disability. At this stage, our scope is very broad. We could do a 'you can't ask that' style video or something that looks at the student experience at the ANU. The sky is the limit at this stage. We'd love to hear from you if you have any ideas for the content and for...mat or if you would like to be involved in any way. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at my email: [email protected] Thanks! 17.01.2022 According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Disabled people are significantly less likely to achieve a bachelors degree, compared to non-disabled students.... The changes to HECs will only further that gap. Disabled students do not have enough support as it is, and the changes mean that they will be even less likely to have the same access to education as a non-disabled person. Education is a right, and the prevention of disabled people from accessing this right is neglect and abuse. The government is furthering the education gap between disabled and non-disabled people, and putting in even more barriers to equality. The NUS Disabilities department stands with the rest of NUS National Union of Students against these changes. Use #KILLTHEBILL to get more involved, and sign our open letter to show the government that you will not stand for this: https://docs.google.com//1DTfydqfasrkzywL_lt23K6ThW0/edit [Image Description: A purple circle on top of a yellow square with the words "16.7% of disabled people hold a bachelors degree compared to 27.7 of non-disabled people" In the middle, in black. 14.01.2022 The changes to higher education proposed by Dan Tehan and the Liberal National Federal government specifically attacks disabled people, and prevents them from a...ccessing higher education. These changes no only make it harder for Disabled people to go to university in the first place, it shows that this government has no empathy for people with disabilities who may not have the support they need to succeed. This is not the fault of disabled people, rather it is the fact that universities do not have the funding, nor the need to ensure that disabled people are supported. These changes, as well as the lack of support for the sector during it's biggest crisis in a generation, means that the education gap between disabled and non-disabled people will only grow. The Government does not care about us. We are committed to fighting these changes, and stand with the rest of the NUS National Union of Students against these changes. Use the hashtag #KILLTHEBILL and sign our open letter to show that you don't support these changes: https://docs.google.com//1DTfydqfasrkzywL_lt23K6ThW0/edit [Image Description: A purple circle with the words "Education is for all" In the middle, in white. 14.01.2022 The ANU DSA stands firmly against the ableist announcement from Federal Education Minister Dan Tehan yesterday. Disabled students will overwhelmingly be targeted by this and financially penalised - poorer students even more so. Check out this quote from Disabilities Officer Zoe Ranganathan in The Australian today. 13.01.2022 CW: AHRC report, sexual assault and harrassment, Aug 1, institutional betrayal * * * *... * Today marks the 3rd year since the release of the AHRC report and the damning evidence of unacceptable levels of sexual violence at the ANU and universities across the country. While we reflect on the statistics of the AHRC report however, we must remember that each statistic is a person with a story who must live with these experiences. Overwhelmingly, these stories are from marginalised people, and today the ANU DSA would particularly like to stand with disabled survivors. ANU counselling will have extra appointments next week and zoom appointments are available - further support services below. To survivors - we hear you, we believe you. Do better ANU. If you have the spoons, please sign this petition from ANUSA - ANU Students' Association, PARSA - ANU Postgraduate and Research Students' Association & ANU Women's Department, calling on the ANU to step up. https://www.megaphone.org.au/pet/anu-call-to-action-on-sash Support services: - Canberra Rape Crisis Centre: (02) 6247 2525 - 1800 RESPECT: 1800 737 732 - Domestic Violence Crisis Service: 02 6280 0900 - Respectful Relationships Unit: email [email protected] to arrange a phone or zoom meeting. - ANU Counselling appointments via Zoom: 02 6178 0455 or email [email protected] - ANU crisis support line (24/7): 1300 050 327 - ANU crisis text service (24/7): 0488 884 170 - Lifeline: 13 11 14

10.01.2022 Happy Spoon Week, everyone! Woroni has helped us create this amazing video that shares the covid-19 experiences of some of our members. We'd love for people to share this video to spread awareness about some of the very serious issues members of our community are facing. Thank you to the participants for sharing their stories! https://www.facebook.com/watch/

08.01.2022 The Job Ready Graduates Package is up in front of Parliament on Tuesday. Senator Stirling Griff is the only person standing between thousands of students and 11...3% fee hikes, staff cuts and a lower quality education. If you want to let Senator Griff know how you feel about this bill, follow this link and send him an email, https://tinyurl.com/y7nkq77e

01.01.2022 The ANU DSA stands firmly behind the NUS' submission on the government's ableist fee hikes package. Most of us are undiagnosed and underdiagnosed. How are we meant to prove that we are ill? Why SHOULD we have to prove that we are sick to gain access to an accessible education? Education is a right, not a privilege.... https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=329538541785761
