09.01.2022 Here's a few tips for surviving university by Hannah, one of our wonderful First-Year Experience Student Leaders! --- Hi, I’m Hannah and welcome to ANU! I am a student leader in the FYE program and very excited to meet you all at the many events and workshops we have planned for 2020.... I’m a second year Law/Arts student from Leongatha, Victoria. Known for it’s dairy farming and factory, my home town is a far cry from the politics and bustle of Canberra. Granted, Canberra is a smaller city, it is still an adjustment. I would love to offer just a few tips for your first few weeks here at ANU: Get out and see some of the local landmarks. Jump on your bike or go out and buy a MyWay card (they’re half price for students!) and do a tour of what Canberra has to offer. My personal favourites Old Parliament House, the Old Bus Depot Markets in Kingston, and the National Gallery of Australia. Introduce yourself to new people. It can be weird, especially when you feel like everyone has already fallen into friendship groups, but I’ve found that the way I met all my friends at uni has been through awkward first interactions at an event or in a tutorial. GO TO YOUR LECTURES!!!! Of course if you’re sick take the day off, but take it from me, once you skip one lecture and tell yourself you’ll watch it online, the cycle never ends. If you see me around please say hi and I’ll clue you in to the best places to study ;)
