24.01.2022 Last Thursday marked our Year 3 long term rural stream students’ new journey. 26 out of 103 Year 3 ANU Medical School students were accepted into the rural stream and are getting ready to be relocated to our 6 rural locations for their year-long hands-on study. The two days orientation program saw the Associate Dean of Rural Clinical School, Professor Amanda Barnard, preparing students with year 3 teaching overview, portfolio and expectations. Associate Professor Katrina An...derson ran an interactive consultation workshop, and this certainly improved students’ awareness of consultation skills. Dr Stewart Sutherland and Ms Amanda Wingett gave a presentation on cultural competency. The manager of SE NSW Regional Training Hub, Ms Jennie Gordon, also talked about the importance of Hub’s existence, which is to help our students transition for their career planning and training to become a qualified Registrar. We also had our academic staff taking time off from their busy consulting schedule and coming to the Acton campus to share training and teaching skills and meet all the students and answer their questions. Even though 2020 was a very challenging year for everyone, due to the small numbers of our students in rural areas we were able to continue face-to-face teaching and clinical placements in all our rural towns with minimal disruption. We are sure that our students are looking forward to starting their rural learning journey. We also take this opportunity to thank all RCS and Hub academic and professional staff for their hard work to make another successful rural teaching year.
