22.01.2022 Got nothing to do tonight? Why not head over to The Shows Must Go On for Hairspray Live! It'll be up until Monday 4am AEST at https://youtu.be/q25CRGGiT8Q Also, stay tuned for some fun content from our exec, starting next week...

21.01.2022 In light of COVID-19 and the recent announcement from the university, we will be delaying the closure of director, musical director and producer applications until the end of the mid-semester break. Despite the circumstances, we are all still very keen to put on a production of Little Shop of Horrors - albeit in slightly different circumstances. If you have any questions, feel free to message us or email us at [email protected]. Thank you all for your enthusiasm towards the show, and we hope you stay safe and healthy during this difficult time. Love the ANU MTC exec xx Apply here: https://forms.gle/RdZavH1NEP6DKKpz5

21.01.2022 It's a two-show day over here at Meet the Exec. Our evening performance is delivered by none other than our 2020 MTC General Rep Rohan Pillutla! Rohan decided to save his talents for the stage, so you'll just have to imagine his dulcet tones answering these questions in your head. -... Q: What is your favourite musical? A: My favourite musical is probably Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. It's just brilliant. Q: How did you get into musicals? A: I got into musicals when I stumbled my way into being the lead in my high school's musical after joining my school's vocal group. Q: If you could gender-bend a musical, what would it be? A: I would love to gender bend Hadestown, I'd just love to hear how Hades' and Orpheus' songs sound when sung by women. Q: What's your favourite song to screlt and how many times have you annoyed your roommates screlting said song? A: For me it's probably Goodbye from Catch Me If You Can and never actually, I always find time to do it when they're gone. Q: Why did you join the exec? A: I've been involved in this society, in its various different forms for my entire time at uni, so I thought it would be good to try to give back. Q: What musical do you want to see adapted into a movie? A: I've always wanted to see In the Heights as a movie, and what luck! I'm super keen for it, the cast looks great. Q: What show do you want to see brought to Australia? A: See I really wanted to see Book of Mormon onstage, and I did, so I'm pretty chill now. Q: What's your favourite character from Glee? A: Honestly I only saw the first season before clocking out, but I liked Neil Patrick Harris' guest star character Bryan Ryan, it hit pretty real. Q: What Disney movie do you want to see adapted into a musical? A: Now this is pretty tough, but part of me wants to see like an old school Disney sports movie called The Mighty Ducks as a musical. It's not currently a musical but I think a hockey musical'd be fun. Q: What show would you love to be part of? A: I have been suggesting Urinetown for 5 years now, so at this point I feel obligated to say Urinetown. Q: When was the last time you gasped/cried in a show? A: Admittedly, I was in Dogfight, but I cried a little bit during the song Pretty Funny, Tegan Braithwaite killed it as Rose in that show. Stay tuned for more Meet the Exec and Sem 2 shenanigans!

20.01.2022 SHOW ANNOUNCEMENT ANU Musical Theatre Company is very thrilled to announce its 2020 production of... ORDINARY DAYS ... We are making tentative arrangements to put on this show, however it’s important to bear in mind when applying that there is a real possibility this show won’t be able to go ahead due to COVID-19. Despite this, we would love nothing more than to be able to make this production happen, and are looking for an enthusiastic production team! Set on the bustling streets and sidewalks of New York City, Ordinary Days singles out four average New Yorkers whose lives end up unexpectedly entwined: Warren, a budding artist who balances his own creative aspirations with cat-sitting for an imprisoned mentor; Deb, an ambitious suburban girl turned grad student whose life is fast becoming a thesis study in uncertainty; Jason, a thirtysomething romantic who cannot understand why his relationship with the woman he loves has stalled; and Claire, Jason's reluctant lover held emotionally captive by a wound she shares with no one. As these four characters flounder through all-too-familiar everyday obstacles, they slowly edge closer to connecting with each otherand to understanding that an ordinary event can have extraordinary effects. Applications for Director and Producer for this fantastic show are now open! Apply here https://forms.gle/xwo8otEZZLWhrYJM6 Applications close Thursday, 20th August at midnight! 18.01.2022 This semester has been tough on all theatre groups on campus, but we've been hard at work preparing for what we hope to be a great semester 2! Before we get too far ahead of ourselves however, we figured it was about time we introduced our exec so that we're no longer phantoms posting about Andrew Lloyd Webber shows and sad Waitress dreams. So, here to make your week 12 a little bit brighter, we have Stella Jin, your 2020 MTC Secretary, who while no doubt a budding TikTok star, has not got the YouTuber training to film horizontally.

17.01.2022 PSA Applications for director and producer for the show 'Ordinary Days' have been extended by 24 hours to Friday (tomorrow!) at midnight!! So if directing or producing sounds like something you're interested in, submit an application here: https://forms.gle/xwo8otEZZLWhrYJM6

14.01.2022 This weekend, we'd like to suggest that you take some time to do some research into the racial injustices which continue to oppress people of colour around the world. As a society operating on stolen Ngunawal and Ngambri land, we want to make it clear that we stand with our Indigenous Peoples, who are subject to continued racial injustice, systemic discrimination and police violence everyday. We are going to be educating ourselves to become better allies to our Indigenous b...rothers, sisters and gender non-confirming folx. We hope you will join us in expressing our love to Indigenous communities across Australia, our anger at the racist systems and structures which continue to oppress First Nations people, and our solidarity in the fight for justice, Here are some masterlists of resources for the Australian movement: https://docs.google.com//1Cb1EnggTx4-bEA7OcDsSmw6YdKC/edit shorturl.at/benwL bit.ly/BlackLivesMatterinAustralia https://docs.google.com//1I0rL7mEJ5jjWwW_3dFc4yAXtIi/edit Here is a link to resources for the BLM Movement in America: https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/ American Son, a play about police brutality in America, was filmed with its original Broadway cast and is now available on Netflix. We recommend watching this as a first step to finding out more about the reality of racial injustice in our world. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe

09.01.2022 Did you know that ANU MTC performed Cats in 2013? While that was likely well before most of our times, this weekend we're being offered a chance to see the well-known, if somewhat infamous, classic performed on stage through this week's instalment of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Shows Must Go On livestream! If Judi Dench and Taylor Swift with CGI fur and tail is more your thing, the 2019 film adaptation is currently available to rent on YouTube. The stage production will be ...up until Monday 4am AEST. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAAaq7M0aXs

05.01.2022 Just two hours left to sign up for Ordinary Days auditions!

05.01.2022 Has iso been the crib to your pie diner plans? Got no plans for Friday night? Why not come along to ANU Musical Theatre Company's General Meeting (OGM) at 5pm this Friday 29th May for some chats about theatre during COVID, online content, and constitutional changes?! We'll be adding section 10.9 and 10.10 to the general meeting section of our constitution, facilitating motions by members and special general meetings. (full wording in attached document) What does this actua...lly mean for you as a member? It means that you can hold us accountable. It allows you to: propose ideas ask for explanations for our actions or decisions remove people from the exec team change decisions or actions if you think they aren’t in the best interest of the organisation You can do all this either by raising a motion at a general meeting (such as the one on Friday), or you can call your own special general meeting (SGM). To call an SGM you simply need to write a description of the purpose of that meeting, and then get 9 other MTC members to sign it. We hope to see you all on Zoom (https://anu.zoom.us/j/99079101730) this Friday 5pm (if only to have something to actually schedule in your diary)! 03.01.2022 Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the ANU MTC sadly announce that their production of 'Little Shop of Horrors' will not be going ahead in 2020. While adhering to government guidelines and the presence of other logistical issues, there appears to be no foreseeable way for rehearsals to run and for the show to be performance-ready by August. We thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm during this difficult time, and be sure to keep an eye out for some pandemic-...appropriate events/content in the near future! Stay safe! 01.01.2022 After a brief intermission caused by exams, procrastination and general end-of-semester stress, we're back with another Meet the Exec video! This time, we're meeting Harry Power, our 2020 MTC Vice President. While Harry, like our secretary, has questionable filming skills (@ the rest of the exec, please start filming horizontally for all our sakes!), we can't deny his impeccable taste in musicals. Hadestown, Dear Evan Hansen AND The Band's Visit?! It's like the Tony Awards up in here. And don't get us started on Neil Patrick Harris as the Squip...can someone please make this happen?
