25.01.2022 Join Nicholas Carlton and other ANUSA general representatives at the Canberra Uni Students Climate Strike! at midday, on Friday on University Avenue. "I am striking on March 13th because we need climate action immediately. If we wait for politicians to save us, we will be waiting forever. Our prime minister held a lump of coal in parliament that was carefully lacquered so he would not dirty his hands, and our opposition leader supports the opening of the Adani coal mine. Each... day it becomes clearer that the major parties are only interested in protecting the profits of the fossil fuel industry. On one hand, we have seen climate refugees from Guatemala repelled at the US-Mexico border by tear gas and rubber bullets. On the other hand, we see corporations making billions of dollars in profit from fossil fuels. On one hand, we have seen thirty-four people die, thousands of homes destroyed, and over a billion animals perish in the recent bushfires. On the other hand, we see Scott Morrison holidaying in Hawaii. Last year, school students led the way with the School Strike 4 Climate. Join us on March 13th to make this the year that uni students leave their mark on the climate movement. As Howard Zinn says, you can’t be neutral on a moving train, and the train we’re on is hurtling towards climate catastrophe."
24.01.2022 Join Ben Wicks and other ANUSA general representatives at the Canberra Uni Students Climate Strike! at midday, on Friday on University Avenue. "I'm striking for a selifsh reason. Im striking because I have a strong preference not to see the end of this planet, and with it quite possibly the end of society as we know it, in my life time. I'm also striking for the generations who havent yet seen the world, to make sure that they see blue skys with the sun on their face, and ca...n expereince the flora and fauna that we have been so privileged. But most importantly I am striking because if we keep travelling down the trecherous path which lay before us without radical change, the end times will come, and if you think that I'm going to take that lying down you'd be very, very wrong"
22.01.2022 We've been praised as having had some of the most active gen reps this year. We've had active contribution from reps all-around, whether that be the open-day strike or drafting the terms of reference for a residential hall. A breakdown of Gen Reps who received honoraria for going over and above any basic duties: Ailsa Schreurs: for their effort as a general representative and Environmental initiatives.... Annabelle Nshuti: for their effort as a general representative and active contribution to off campus student advocacy. Brandon Tan: for their work, their role as Probity Officer and their continued enthusiastic engagement in all elements of ANUSA Harsh Thakkar: for their work in establishing the Off-Campus Students Collective Henri Vickers: for their work on reforming the ANUSA standing orders. Jocelyn Abbot: for their comprehensive work on Well Being Week, and active involvement in the Wellbeing Committee.
22.01.2022 Content warning:Sexual assault and harassment and institutional betrayal I’m Jade, a General Representative on ANUSA this year, as well as the President of the Wright Hall Association of Members. My successor, Lachie Ballard, is in the same position. It’s super interesting to sit on both the Interhall Council (IHC) and Student Representative Council (SRC) and understand the way residential halls interact with the University. My biggest contribution this year was probably brin...ging the IHC and the ANUSA exec together, along with the Wom*ns Department and the Stop Campaign, to create an effective strike on Open Day with the motto Do Better ANU and manage the media and stakeholders around it. The IHC has spent the year asking for a few things: 1. restoring and improving pastoral care staffing and ratios, 2. increased transparency around where our rents go and 3. genuine engagement with student consultation in all important decisions. Importantly, this was a strike spurred on by the declining mental health of students in residential halls and concerns surrounding the lengthy actions being taken by the university to make the campus a safer place with regards to sexual assault and harassment. We achieved a lot of media traction while making lots of incoming students aware of how much we love ANU and our Halls but how much it needs to change. Most importantly, there will be three new full-time pastoral care staff members for 2020 for Wright, Bruce and Fenner Halls. We’ve still got lots to go to make our campus safe. ANUSA and the IHC have an amazing capacity for advocacy for students. I’m so proud and grateful for every person who participated in the strike, from Henri Vickers and Dashveen Jose helping me out with funding, to every person who pamphleted, chalked, talked to parents, boycotted tours and made banners. What an inspiring moment in ANU history.

16.01.2022 The General Representatives are running a working group focused on the Campus Master Plan, the document that sets out the long term vision for development of the Acton campus. We are keen to hear from any interested student. This can either be through sending in your thoughts or through applying to join the working group. The goals for the group are to build a handover document digesting the masterplan, providing a plan for long-term student advocacy on campus works and, if ...necessary, to produce a submission to the university to be passed at an ANUSA meeting. For any questions, or if you have any accessibility requirements with this form, please contact Ben Yates ([email protected]). https://docs.google.com//1FAIpQLSd67C8FgKE677d5sa/viewform (P.S) here is the campus master plan http://imagedepot.anu.edu.au/scapa/ANUACMasterPlan.pdf
16.01.2022 Hello! Ahead of tomorrow's last SRC, we have one report from a Gen Rep- Brandon Tan. You can have a cool read of it here (it's been mistakenly omitted from the current agenda).
15.01.2022 Join Ben Yates and other ANUSA general representatives at the Canberra Uni Students Climate Strike! at midday, on Friday on University Avenue. "I am striking for the climate because it is the existential question of our time. We do not have the luxury of complacency. Our future is hanging in the balance. After a horrific summer of destruction, the reality could not be clearer: climate change is not a hypothetical or a distant prospect but an immediate danger to the planet and... everyone on it. In the face of these threats, politicians have failed to provide meaningful solutions, preferring instead to distract and even come to the defence of the industries that are destroying our climate. We cannot accept climate policy that puts the bottom line of big business ahead of our future. We all have to ask ourselves whether we are willing to take up the fight for the future of the planet. Young people need to demand our voice be heard and that’s what I’ll be doing on Friday."
15.01.2022 "What is ANUSA"? It's the last week of our term before a new team goes in. If you were slightly confused about who does what- this (slightly aged) Woroni article should help explain some stuff!
14.01.2022 Join Kate Evans and other ANUSA general representatives at the Canberra Uni Students Climate Strike! at midday, on Friday on University Avenue. "I am striking on March 13 because we need to fight for our futures. We need immediate and drastic climate action, and change will not come by us staying silent. It is clear that our major political parties aren’t willing to affect meaningful policies or adequately mitigate the effects we are already experiencing. We need to demand more from the people who are meant to represent us. Climate change is an existential threat. It can feel overwhelming, but we also have opportunities to be a part of the change and make our voices heard, particularly if we stand together."

10.01.2022 ANUSA's General Representives oppose Proctorio! See our statement below [Raised Fist] #GetOutOfMyHouseBrian #SayNoToProctorio [Image Description :ANUSA’s general representatives oppose the use of Proctorio for online invigilation and call on the ANU to withdraw it from all examinations. If implemented it would constitute a major violation of our privacy. As revealed by Woroni, the software is able to monitor your behaviour by recording your keystrokes, locking down your br...owsers, and scanning your room via webcam. Upon downloading the Proctorio extension you are informed that it can manage your downloads, capture content of your screen, [and] change your privacy-related settings. Data that is deemed suspicious will be stored and sent to the course convenor. Monitoring students in such a way is Orwellian, creepy and invasive. Compounding the issue of using Proctorio is how it disadvantages certain groups of students. If you are sitting the exam in a rural or regional area without reliable internet access, you may not be able to complete an exam that requires online invigilation. Sometimes the technology deems too much movement to be suspicious, so if you are a mature-aged student looking after a child, or you are not able-bodied, you may be deemed suspicious by Proctorio. Using Proctorio means you must also agree to allow the software to read and change all your data on the websites that you visit. In a review of the product, one student wrote that it wiped his account names, passwords, and cache data. We call on the ANU to drop Proctorio and any online examinations that currently require online invigilation. Course convenors should consult with students to work out alternative forms of assessment and students should not be forced to delay their exams. Instead, examinations should be moved to a take-home or open book format. ANU claims that we are not being pressured to use Proctorio because we can defer our exams until the shutdown is over. However, the opt-out solution the ANU has provided us is frankly insufficient. Students who do not want to delay their degree or graduation will feel undue pressure to acquiesce using Proctorio. In any case, ANU should not be using a software that has been compared to spyware. We support the recommendations issued by ANUSA and the open letter signed by 13 ANU clubs and societies that vocalise their opposition to the use of Proctorio. It is clear that the vast majority of students oppose the implementation of this technology. We ask that ANU act on the views of the student body and withdraw Proctorio immediately. #GetOutOfMyHouseBrian #SayNoToProctorio Signed Nick Carlton, Ben Wicks, Cahill Di Donato, Ben Yates, Tom Garrat, Lachie Ballard, Aryanne Caminshchi, Vincent Lee, Will Fletcher, Jacob Ellis, Ben Theakston and Kate Evans. 07.01.2022 This is a post from the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic regarding the use of Proctorio for online invigilation, we encourage you all to comment any questions or concerns you have on the ANU OnCampus post to let them know what you think, and how it might affect you! Your Gen Reps will continue fighting to ensure that these concerns are heard and action is taken! [Raised Fist]
04.01.2022 The Jobkeeper subsidy leaves behind millions of workers, and students are especially disadvantaged. Get behind the campaign to change that!
04.01.2022 Results for the semester are beginning to come out and we wish you all the best with them! However, sometimes things don't go to plan and that's ok - you still have options! If you or any of your friends have failed a course(s) and want to have a chat with someone, ANUSA's Student Assistance Team is here to discuss your options. These may include applying for Late Withdrawal, appealing the grade, discussing the impact of the grade on the program, connecting you with support s...ervices at ANU or exploring steps forward to avoid being in a similar situation in the future. Please contact [email protected] to get the conversation started.
04.01.2022 Join Louis Gordon and other ANUSA general representatives at the Canberra Uni Students Climate Strike! at midday, on Friday on University Avenue. "Climate change is the challenge of our times. It poses an existential and impending threat to the livelihoods of all inhabitants of our planet. I am striking on the March 13 because successive governments and legislatures in Australia have failed to adequately take action on climate change. We need to send a message to our elected ...representatives that Australians will no longer accept climate denialism and inaction, and that we expect our leaders to do everything in their power to support a just transition to a carbon-free economy. We expect nothing less. We can only hope that our devastating summer of bushfires has served as a wakeup call for our leaders to get their act together. What we witnessed this summer was truly horrific, and these events will only become more frequent and more extreme unless Australia and the global community finally begin to take real steps towards a carbon-free economy. This particular government’s inaction on climate change no longer makes sense on even traditional Coalition values. They are ignoring the voices of farmers, firefighters and the ‘quiet Australians’ who brought them into power. They are ideologically hollow and entirely self-serving. We can’t let them get away with this. I will finally say this - your voice is powerful. We as young people will bear the brunt of the effects of climate change, and we must be unified in expressing our demands for action. Our united voice is stronger than the sum of our individual voices, and this Friday we must come together to fight for our future, fight for our climate, and fight for our voices to be heard."
