12.01.2022 CHANGE THE DATE CAMPAIGN As we all know invasion day is tomorrow. It is a day of mourning and it is so important that we recognise that. Tomorrow if you decide to go celebrate Australia Day whether that’s at the pub or with your friends - I’d recommend you think twice about your actions. Stop and check yourself and ask yourself is celebrating on the 26th necessary. ... Please read the infographic attached regarding the harms of performative activism. It isn’t enough to post a black square on Instagram and allege you are an ally but continue to celebrate Australia Day. It is about taking active steps to ensure you are decolonising attitudes, donating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander charities and engaging with material such as books and podcasts. The only way we can continue to help decolonize attitudes in Australia is if we actively stand in solidarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders not just tomorrow but everyday. 03.01.2022 CHANGE THE DATE CAMPAIGN Choosing not to celebrate Invasion Day is only the first step to decolonising yourself. It is about continuing to respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is extremely important that we continue to acknowledge and respect the traditional First Nations Place Names as per this infographic below.
