21.01.2022 Sunday morning calls for a new brekky recipe! Want a delicious pancake recipe to try? Check out these Vegan Buckwheat pancakes from AF Health Hub Ingredients... cup buckwheat flour (bought from the store is fine) 2 extremely ripe bananas 2 tablespoons of water 2 tablespoons of coconut oil 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract teaspoon of baking soda Instructions -Preheat your oven to 175 degrees celsius. These pancakes are different in that they’re better baked than fried, giving them a lovely, light, fluffy texture! -In a large bowl, mash your bananas up. It’s okay to have a few lumps. Add in your buckwheat flour, coconut oil, water, cinnamon, vanilla, baking soda and apple cider vinegar. -Stir well to create a smoothish batter. Note that the batter will be slightly thicker than usual pancake batter, and not quite as runny. -To bake the pancakes, scoop the batter up using a cup measure and create six evenly-sized pancakes on a sheet of baking paper in a baking tray. Use a spoon to spread the pancakes out to about 12cm in diameter. -Leave the pancakes to bake for about 15 minutes, until the centres are firm. -Once your pancakes have baked, serve them hot with fresh fruit, yoghurt, coconut yoghurt, cream, maple syrup, or honey! 12.01.2022 What do I eat before I work out? I hear this question all the time, and of course the answer will be different for everyone depending on their goals and preferences! If you're looking to maximise fat loss - fasted cardio may be the way to go for you. You will not have the same levels of energy or be able to put in as much effort as training after eating, and may have to sacrifice some muscle in the process, but you will burn more fat. For performance in the gym - your body ne...eds a protein source as well as a combination of fast and slow acting carbohydrates 30 to 60 minutes before exercise. Try to avoid fats with this meal as it will negatively affect your body's protein uptake! An typical pre-workout meal might be whey protein, oats with skim milk, a banana, and a handful of berries! Remember - listen to your body! 06.01.2022 Dinner ideas anyone? Stuck for different dinners to try? Try out the Baked Salmon with Asparagus recipe from #AFHealthHub & let us know how you go!... SERVES 2 INGREDIENTS Salmon fillets- 300g Asparagus, woody ends removed- 300g Lemon, juice and zest of- 1 Salt and pepper- Seeded mustard- 30g Tomatoes, halved- 100g Rocket- 60g METHOD Preheat your oven to 190C. Take a square of foil and place it on a baking tray, place a square of parchment paper on top of the foil. They should be about 30cm by 30cm. Place both salmon fillets on top of the paper. In a small bowl mix together the lemon zest and mustard, season with salt and pepper and divide between the two salmon fillets and spread over the top of them. Wrap the salmon in the paper, then the foil and fold the edges of the foil so a baking bag is formed with the foil being the outer, sealing layer. Place in the oven and bake for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and add the trimmed asparagus and tomatoes. Bake for a further 15 minutes. Plate up with the rocket and drizzle over the remaining lemon juice. Season and enjoy.
