19.01.2022 Workout Tips from our Fantastic PT @joshbowenpt Exercise - Sitting Dumbbell Shoulder Press Tips to improve your form-... Don't try to swing the weights up. As this isn't inherently bad, it engraines poor habits for when you progress to a heavier weight. Instead, set the weights on your knees and use them to help "pop" the weight up to your start position. If you already have poor shoulder mobility, slightly rotate the dumbbells so the thumbs form a V shape towards one another. create tension through the body by taking a deep breath, and bracing through your core while lowering the weight in a controlled manner through its full range of motion without letting the shoulders roll in, or arching through the back on the way up. 15.01.2022 Workout tip Thursdays!!! Deadlifts are fundamental for a lot of weight-lifters and gym goers but too often injuries occur to improper technique!! Thank the Gym gods because we have @joshbowenpt to show us how to smash your deadlift goals in a safe manner!!! ... 1. Walk up to the bar leaving about 2cm between your shin & the bar. If your shins are touching the bar, when you bend down the bar will roll forward away from your centreline causing you to lose tightness 2. When you grab the bar, pull your shoulder blades back and down to engage the lats. Pull your armpits to your hips or think about wrapping the bar around your shins. 3. Take a large breath through the belly to create intra abdominal pressure to engage the core & help stabilise the lower back. Think about your belly as a balloon & inflate it to create lots of tension 4. Don't drop your hips too low, this will cause you to lose pressure through the core & pull through the lower back 5. Instead of pulling the bar up, think about pushing the ground away, the same way you would performing a leg press. As you lock the bar out, don't hyperextend the lower back at the top. Instead pull the ribs down towards the pelvis while simultaneously driving the hips forward 6. To decend, drive the hips back instead of bending the knee until the bar passes the knees. Keep rigid back musculature while maintaining an engaged core to ensure optimal technique. You know your body. Do your thing like you would do before speed work on the track. Step onto the deadmill Lean forward and hang onto the front bar of the mill Leaning forward, push hard and run with your legs, moving as fast as you can for 10-15 seconds Rest by standing still or walking around :30 :45 seconds.
